QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) Puig hasn't done anything yet to get in trouble or cause an intl diplomatic incident. Hasn't been kidnapped by his former buscones, either. Wonder if Abreu's recruiting him, Cespedes or Alexei...to be a fly on that wall. his sister must not be there

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) Freese had a good World Series for the Cards. He hasn't lived up to expectations since. he has been pretty solid to good for his entire career http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/freesda01.shtml

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:41 AM) Anyone thinking a $1B opening weekend will happen? I dont think so because i dont think it is a worldwide synced release. It will hit 1B quick though, it will probably blow past Jurassic World

Caulfield, most of the players you named aren't being traded or have already been traded. It's like you just looked up guys with high obp and said "these guys qualify as possible trade targets"

No one is going to point out "G'oh"? Wtf

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) I'd prefer to see a young guy with potential in his spot. There has to be someone that they can pick up off the scrap heap and develop. Have you seen the scrap heap? It's a bunch of Cameron Bairstows. You aren't gonna find a hidden star

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) I like Cespedes as an option for the Sox. I don't like how he will only play LF though. I remember a lot of the issues that led to his departure from Oakland was his unwillingness to play other positions. He would make sense on a front loaded deal with an opt out. He played a lot of CF for the Mets iirc

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) If the Sox sign Freese, I will not attend a game. He is not what this team needs. Especially spending 10 million a year on him through his 33-35 aged years when you know he'll miss at least 20-25 games each year. lmao, take a stand. FREESE WILL MAKE ME NOT GO TO GAMES

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) Actually I didn't. I said they both strike out a lot. The difference, of course, is that you guys want to ravage the farm system and throw the same horrid outfield defense out there. Frazier's best OBP was .336. Last year it was .309, to accompany his .669 second half OPS. And yet you guys want to trade serious assets for that. How many times do we have to load up with low OBP ballplayers? Sure Chris Carter is high K low OBP. His 25 homers are also FREE. They won't hurt the club long term. Adding Frazier would maul it. Who's the last hitter that improved with the Sox. I'll tell - Eaton and Quentin. Common denominator? YOUNG and we traded equal value for YOUNG players. That's actually worked. So what do the Sox do when an approach works? Dump it in the trashcan and go after "proven veterans" again, an approach that has consistently failed. What exactly would Frazier add? A good bat? Maybe. Could be a mediocre bat if we follow what has happened in the past with these NL sluggers. Defense? Nope. We fixed that with Lawrie. Yes, he's average at best overall but it's stable. (and yes, some want to move him to 2nd to squeeze out the promising Sanchez at 2nd for a proven mediocre player). Does OF defense improve? Nope. Package will likely include Trayce and we're back to the same clowning we had last year. Heck if we do nothing, we're much better defensively than we were last year and if we use the players correctly, we'd have a plus defensive team. That was a big weakness last year. But you can't watch defense on home run derby. Give me a break QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) Pick up Chris Carter for nothing. He'll hit 25ish. Let him DH Sure he'll K a lot, but so will the elite, the greatest, Todd Frazier. Meawhile, we can get another year of development from Sanchez, Thompson and whoever our SS is. I'm not interested in any of these guys who will require our 2nd tier prospects either. You can add Todd Frazier or whomever, and this is a 80-84 win team on paper....less if the OF defense stays the same as it is. Refsnyder can't play defense. find someone who comes real cheap like Lawrie or Carter. You put them on the same level. Saying "they both strike out a lot" when one strikes out between 150-200 times a season and the other strikes out LESS THAN THE LEAGUE AVERAGE is a misleading statement at best, and a lie at the worst But please, tell me more about your hero Chris Carter

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) THANK YOU. I keep seeing that Frazier strikes out a lot. It's basically making s*** up. just yesterday he said that Frazier strikes out the same as Chris Carter

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) Should I pull out your post where you are recently tearing the team apart if the White Sox aren't willing to spend due to the high FA price tags and fear of making another colosssal payroll mistake? Alex Gordon isn't the right player at age 32 unless they can only sign him for three years...that just won't happen in this market. I still believe the White Sox are less likely to spend $75-100 million than KC because the Royals are looking at offensive downgrades at three separate positions. At the very least, they'll go after someone like Ian Desmond, although he doesn't quite line up with their defensive philosophy. Actually, I wouldn't be totally shocked if they signed Alexei Ramirez and played him at 2b and LF/RF. They only have a two year window. Something like Parra, Ramirez and Desmond to keep them competitive enough. Veteran players mostly. Please pull it out. and while commenting, see if you can not mention the Royals

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) Melky's OPS the second half was over .780. And we both know, the second half of last season is the only set of metrics worth reviewing

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 07:38 AM) Why is the collective WAR stat projection thrown into the Todd Frazier thread? It shouldn't be part of this discussion...or it should be in every thread since on the surface it's compelling evidence for why the White Sox shouldn't and can't afford to sit back on their heels the next two seasons waiting for...I'm not sure what exactly. More favorable economic conditions? Maybe because it applied DIRECTLY to Todd Frazier QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 06:34 AM) I just looked at Fangraphs' 2016 team projections and they have the Sox at 2nd in the division right now at 32.7 WAR, 5.2 WAR behind the Indians, and that's with a decent amount of regression from Abreu, Eaton, and Quintana. Picking up Upton and Frazier would put them at first in the ALC in projected WAR. However, it looks like once again the projection system undervalues the Royals, as they're dead last in the AL in projected WAR. http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Team Stop talking about the Royals in every post.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) Why can't the Sox realize it's time to acquire Frazier to go with Lawrie? We need Frazier and re-sign Lexi for 5 mill a year for 2 years. Or one year and an option. And by all means open the wallet and sign an outfielder. The Cubs just signed Zobrist, Lackey and Heyward to go with all those young guys. Sure their pitching might suck, but that's a possible WS contender. This is competition, baby. There are 2 teams in this city and one is on fire in terms of fan interest and MEDIA drooling. Sox are not going to get fans to show up to watch the defensive dandies Saladino and Sanchez work their magic at ss and 2B. Barring some unforeseen turnaround, the Sox will blow. But you add Frazier and a name outfielder ... kaching at the cash register. Sox fans will sign up cause we got electric pitchers in Sale, Q and potentially some others! What is Hahn waiting for?? Yes it's $$$ to spend, but do they have an option? It's either spend $$$ or look at 15,000 to 25,000 fans a game all season cept when Cubs and Yanquis come to town. It isn't money to spend, Greg. They have to trade for him, and if what they are offering is not sufficient for the Reds, then the trade does not happen

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) The Sox should sign this guy and Hwang. The hit rate on Korean players really hasn't been all that good, their monster stats don't seem to come with them.

@jayzawaski670 1. Some things about the Daley / Scuderi trade: Talked to a couple of people tonight. One believes this is a Q move all the way. 2. Q was never a big fan of Daley. If you've been paying attention, I've been talking about the Hawks looking to move him since late Oct. 3. For what it's worth, Scuderi is a great locker room guy, so meshing won't be an issue. 4. This is a cap move too, and while nothing is imminent, there will be more movement leading up to deadline. 5. My best source says, "That's how much they did not like Daley."

Chris Carter has a career slashline of .217/.312/.452, and last year he hit .199 with 151 strikeouts in 460 ABs following 182 and 212(!!!!!) strikeouts. Frazier has never struck out more than 139 times in a season and his slash line is .257/.321/.463 and plays a position competently, unlike Carter who is a DH that is a dinosaur in the modern major leagues(3 outcome) Your dream team would suck so hard -
