  1. What a frustrating team....what a frustrating season. As someone above mentioned, we do need to go on a tear. Maybe when Peavy returns it will spark the team. Buehrle's perfect game sure didn't, which is a huge shame.
  2. You have to think the Sox will release Fields in the offseason, or at least make a token trade for a similar AAAA type guy or a non-prospect in the lower levels. The thing that bothers me about Fields isn't so much his inability to hit, but his attitude. Talking about how you almost quit after your first year in the majors and then moaning several times about being benched despite a microscopic average are not signs of a mature team player. I am glad he is hitting better in Charlotte and I do wish him the best...just not with the Sox.
  3. They are two different types of players, but why not a Getz/Nix platoon?
  4. Every time it looks like Jose is finished he pulls out one of these gems.
  5. Huddy didn't have his best stuff, and still he battled and got the W against a fairly good team. That is the mark of a good pitcher.
  6. One of the best 4 or 5 teams? Not right now. With Peavy and and a hot streak from Dye or Thome or Konerko etc...maybe.
  7. I think Morel is going to be a good player. Having only 9 or 10 errors in a full season of Hi-A is remarkable...
  8. As someone said above, Phegley is really starting to turn it on. I think at the very worst he profiles as a good hitting backup catcher who wouldn't be a hole in the lineup if you put him at first occasionally, especially against lefties.
  9. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) I can't believe it looks like Crow will go unsigned again. That guy just doesn't get it. Isn't he not subject to the deadline this evening for some reason? College seniors aren't...perhaps that applies to him? I'm not sure.
  10. QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) Does Williams ever play a position or does he always DH? Why does he usually DH? I think its a carry over from the torn labrum he had last year.
  11. No on the call-up. A lot of people are knocking him but his season in B-ham has been very, very good considering his age, slow start, and the cultural adjustment. He'll be a good one but he is not ready for the majors yet, if even for a cup of coffee.
  12. Wow, great news! I'm not sure Flowers will ever hit for a huge average, but with his power and patience at the plate and even ML average defensive skills and he would be a huge asset to the team.
  13. Hudson!! His efficiency is unreal and the reason I believe that he will prosper with the Sox.
  14. I hope I'm wrong, but I think morgado will be the only unsigned draft choice who gets inked.
  15. Junior is one of the all time greats and a sure HOFer. Like Carlton and Seaver, I'm glad he got to spend some time with the Sox...
  16. Kanny loses, 8-3. Griffith wth a poor outing and KW Jr. continues to not be able to hit. It's kind of crazy when you think that our #1 draft pick, the best athlete in our minor league system, and our projected leadoff hitter of the future is being displaced in the one hole by a guy hitting .242 with a BB/K rate of 14/64. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb
  17. I can't believe it. Wise is going to be on the roster the rest of the year. He better not take so much as an AB away from the 5 major league outfielders on the team.
  18. I think Bellamy would be well serverd by going to W-S for the last few weeks of the season. He's proven he can handle Kanny and due to his unorthodox pitching motion could become a middle reliever in the bigs before too long.
  19. Good or bad, this is another one of KW's daring moves. I can't help but feel that contract is going to be a huge millstone around our necks in another few years, but what the hell. You gotta give KW credit for trying to shake up a very apathetic and inconsistent team.
  20. I'm waiting for the punch line: Scouts watching McCulloch... For laughs? Because they lost a bet? Instead of working?
  21. It took Flowers a a few weeks to adjust to AAA, but it looks like he's on the road to figuring it out there.
  22. Way to go Huddy and Gartrell! I think Hudson is ready and would do well to taste the majors ahead of competing for a SP slot next season.
  23. For all the grief the Sox scouting department has received (and they did deserve a bunch) the 2008 class is shaping up as something very special. Beckham is unreal, Carter already was a piece of landing a bona fide ace in Peavey, Danks is progressing nicely, Morel is a seriously underrated prospect, and now Hudson is shaping up as an advanced top of the rotation guy with 4 pitches and a great feel for the game. Add in intriguing spare parts like Kuhn, Greene, and Leesman and this has the potential to be the best class we've had since...? A long time, at least.
  24. I can't believe we are so late in the year and just now getting a Carl Crawford thread. That must be some sort of record. Crawford will cost sooooo much, and with Mitchell being hailed as a Crawford clone I just don't see how we pick him up. I'd love to have him, but it would take eveything we had left on the farm and then some.
