  1. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 07:15 AM) Since I have not watched a lick of tv, or heard any news, she was that bad, eh? Well, what a pity. I watched most of the debate and think she only had 1 bad moment. I'm not a huge fan of hers but she came off as very confident and had pretty good responses most of the night. I become more impressed with Dodd the more I hear him.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 08:10 AM) All we will have done is make the planet a little nicer. But at what economic cost? Look at the disaster that occurred in Seattle now that they have reached Kyoto level emissions of CO2. They may never fully recover.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 11:22 PM) Personally, I think we did a wonderful job of staving off the coming ice age back in the '70's. Question. I was just a little kid in the 70's so I don't know the answer. Did the overwhelming majority of scientists around the globe think that an ice age was on its way?
  4. You remind me of my father. You get so angry that Mr 500k is "being squeezed" and want to fight tooth and nail to stop it even though you probably don't make a fraction of that salary and it probably doesn't even affect you. (If it did then I would question why some dude who makes 500k/year is spending countless hours on a message board ) I wish guys like you and my father had that same passion to fight for child health care.
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) How high is the standard of living in Seattle? From everything I have read over the past few years it is rather high. EDIT: This cost of living calculator has Seattle coming up with a similar standard of living to Chicago and you'll need much more money to maintain your standard of living if moving from Dallas. http://www.bankrate.com/brm/movecalc.asp EDIT #2: I guess the economy in Seattle has been crippled now because of this. It's like the Dust Bowl revisited.
  6. Seattle is one of the first major U.S. cities to claim it has cut greenhouse-gas emissions enough to meet the targets of the international Kyoto treaty aimed at combating global warming.
  7. I am baffled that people actually want to see Bonds here.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) Not sure where to put this, but... Kucinich jumps the shark, and questions Bush's mental health. What do you mean by "Jumps the shark"? I have not seen it used in this context before.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) It seems the Repubs are going to import a candidate to try to knock off John Murtha. http://www.tribune-democrat.com/local/loca..._301003334.html I would be surprised, as would many others, if this guy beats Murtha.
  10. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) I don't think there is a context where simulating death via drowning in interrogation is ever acceptable or legal or not torture. I'd have to agree with you on this one.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) Notorious? Do you go around to people's houses and unplug things? Sounds like a new comic book hero. The Unplugger! Girlfriend gets annoyed at times. Also do it when I visit my family.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/30/...in3428882.shtml Interesting story on leaving products on "stand by" I have become notorious for unplugging things when not in use.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 08:38 AM) ...then G-Rod will be rendered irrelevant, and the bill will pass without him. Lobbing them up this morning, eh?
  14. Anyone catching the debate on MSNBC at 8pm tonight? I'll try to catch some of it if I can. EDIT: Never mind. It's on tomorrow night.
  15. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Is there an echo in here? Oh duh. Did some quick skimming.
  16. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:47 PM) don't know how it works. Chicago is more segregated than most major cities (from what i've been told), with much of the very poor living the furthest form downtown. I'm just offering a possible reason why the city does not use a distance based fee. Well there are trains that go all the way to Skokie and Evanston.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) I've worked with a lot of executives who make similar salaries, and I don't think I have heard them petitioning their bosses for less hours. You're comparing for-profit employees with government elected officials?
  18. Aren't you one of the people that dismissed the Nobel Prize when Gore won it? Now Time magazine awards are what distinguishes the great minds? I see.
  19. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) lol, nice try. like it's a HUGE deal that he offered to remain in office for an extra 6 months to help the city deal with a major terrorist attack. if he doesn't do that then you would post "he ran like a coward a mere two months after 9-11". obviously you will vote dem either way, so it's a moot point. Help the city deal? How exactly did he do that? With photo ops?
  20. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) because they were busy working on their "forest fires are a result of global warming" stories. that and they're probably getting an early start on putting together their forged documents to go after Giuliani with Finding dirt on Giuliani does not require forging anything. He has plenty of dirt on him from his own doing.
  21. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) I think the main argument against that is the fact that many of the poor people who would be most affected by the increase live further from downtown. Just a guess though. How do poor people cope in other cities that have zoned rates?
  22. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) I think the pink was a combination of part of the blue and part of the green, but they are now using the north-south tracks right by the united center, tracks that haven't been used in a while. So there's the added upkeep of that new X miles of track plus the additional costs in running the routes. In the grand scheme of things the loss (if there is one) on that section of the track surely didn't put them in the situation they are in now. One thing that could be effecting their bottom line is the two major overhauls of the brown and red lines and their stations - whether that was necessary (for safety) or whether it was a beautification project is up for debate. But yeah, I agree. I'm a chicago resident but I don't think joe blow down in southern illinois should be paying for a system that I use daily and they may use once in their lives, if that. I think we need to set up a zone map so that riders in the far away stations pay more. That wont solve the problem, but it'll help stop the bleeding. Great minds think alike.
  23. Is the CTA the only train system in the country that uses a flat rate for riders? I find it rather silly that I would pay the exact amount for a ride on the train from Skokie to 95th as I would from Western to Damen. It should be 20 or 25 cents per train stop.
  24. Many of us didn't think Kerry Wood be such a jerk off.
