Pet peeves....
QUOTE(longshot7 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) misuse of the word literally (actually I love it-it's so funny) - heard a radio host say "This team has no quarterback. They LITERALLY have no quarterback." How is that even possible? David Cross had a bit in one of his stand up routines that covered this topic. Was quite funny.

People who refer to a certain dog breed as "loyal". Is there such thing as a disloyal breed?

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) From Select Smart: 1. Theoretical Ideal Candidate (100%) 2. Duncan Hunter (67%) 3. Alan Keyes (65%) I am officially frightened of you.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) You're not in favor of ethanol? Why? (I'm not either, but I'm curious as to whether or not there's any paralells at all). From everything I've read it's quite inefficient.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) Candidates Survey Neat little quiz that aligns your views with the candidates who match them. Since I actually care about politics, it just confirmed my decision, but for those of you out there unsure, its pretty useful. This one is pretty weak. I've seen better ones posted in here before. The only thing brought up about the environment was ethanol, which I'm not in favor of. There's a lot more to it then ethanol.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 09:59 AM) No real answer? Serious question here. The US captures someone who they know has information regarding an imment terror attack on US soil. They have no idea who, what, or where. What is the most effective way to get the information from him? I always here about what doesn't work, but what actually does work? What is the US government missing? I personally do not think there is solution that will guarantee that you get the 100% correct answer you are looking for from a detainee. Do you honestly think that one of the 9/11 hijackers would have talked if we caught them beforehand? They were prepared to die for their cause. Maybe I'm just naive.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) you would be assuming he KNEW secret intel to gove up. Aren't we assuming the same when we torture others?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 08:31 AM) The City of Chicago lays out its ambitious "Green Plan", which will be helped along with a large chunk of money from various corporations. Slick Willy will be in town soon to kick things off for his part of it, as Chicago becomes a test pilot city. No money for that. It's all going to go to attract the olympics. http://www.chicagoreader.com/features/stor...heworks/071025/

John McCain was tortured in Vietnam. And since torture works (according to pro-torture people) he must have given up secret intel on the US. That should disqualify him as a presidential candidate. We cannot trust him.

Hard drive failure!!
Hey everyone, I have a huge favor to ask. My external hard drive is not working. I turn it on and all I hear is a clicking noise and the PC will not recognize the drive in windows explorer. I have tons of music and video files on the hard drive that I worked way too hard to compile over the last few years. Do you or anyone you know have experience recovering files from a faulty hard drive? Do you know anyone who does that sort of thing for a living? Please help me before I shoot myself!! Note: I definitely learned my lesson and will backup files regularly in the future. Thanks, BigSqwert

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 04:23 PM) Random question for the board... anyone have any experiences with Ford dealerships in Chicago or the surrounding area they'd like to share? Any recommended dealers, or places to avoid? I would avoid "Arrington's Ford Lemon Emporium".

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 07:15 AM) Since I have not watched a lick of tv, or heard any news, she was that bad, eh? Well, what a pity. I watched most of the debate and think she only had 1 bad moment. I'm not a huge fan of hers but she came off as very confident and had pretty good responses most of the night. I become more impressed with Dodd the more I hear him.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 08:10 AM) All we will have done is make the planet a little nicer. But at what economic cost? Look at the disaster that occurred in Seattle now that they have reached Kyoto level emissions of CO2. They may never fully recover.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 11:22 PM) Personally, I think we did a wonderful job of staving off the coming ice age back in the '70's. Question. I was just a little kid in the 70's so I don't know the answer. Did the overwhelming majority of scientists around the globe think that an ice age was on its way?

For GOP only
You remind me of my father. You get so angry that Mr 500k is "being squeezed" and want to fight tooth and nail to stop it even though you probably don't make a fraction of that salary and it probably doesn't even affect you. (If it did then I would question why some dude who makes 500k/year is spending countless hours on a message board ) I wish guys like you and my father had that same passion to fight for child health care.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) How high is the standard of living in Seattle? From everything I have read over the past few years it is rather high. EDIT: This cost of living calculator has Seattle coming up with a similar standard of living to Chicago and you'll need much more money to maintain your standard of living if moving from Dallas. http://www.bankrate.com/brm/movecalc.asp EDIT #2: I guess the economy in Seattle has been crippled now because of this. It's like the Dust Bowl revisited.
