QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) The simple fact that global warming is occuring on other planets in our solar system, that haven't been influenced by man, tells me that it is an unarguable fact the the cause of global warming is caused by the sun. You see, the isn't just 'global' warming ... it's the entire solar system that is warming. As I said earlier, they were growing grapes in England around the year 1000. Mankind didn't bite the big one then, though 'global warming' was certainly happening. That being said, I'm going to get offline for now. I'll check back whenever I get online again. Have a good day. I will end the debate for now as well. Thanks for making it civil.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) Pluto, which isn't even regarded as a planet anymore, isn't the only member of the solar system that is experiencing global warming now. Facts are facts. It is happening throughout the solar system, whether you want to admit it or not. I never refuted that. I even posted something earlier that stated that it is a fact. The quote also stated that a majority of scientists across the world believe that the causes on earth are by man. Why would you not believe the people who study this on a daily basis? What insight do you have to disprove them? Have you been conducting research on your own?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) However, the fact that global warming is happening on other planets in the solar system is a fact. Like in Pluto where the atmospheric pressure has increased three fold like I quoted above. That seems like a different cause than what we are experiencing here on Earth.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 12:12 PM) I agree with you here. Global warming (caused by changes in the sun), nuclear war or a genetically engineered virus could wipe out the human race. "Could" being the definitive word. We were discussing the causes of global warming, not what the results could be. I doubt Hawking would partake in the film "11th Hour" if he thought humans were not the main cause for global warming. That was the whole premise of the film. I also think it's funny how the opponents of global warming started out as saying it didn't even exist. Now that it's completely obvious that it does they are using other excuses for its existence. Even the most brightest and intelligent scientists in the world cannot convince them otherwise.

I'll take the word from a genius like Stephen Hawking over some guy on a baseball message board:

I guess we can cross Pluto off the list with having similar reasons to global warming:

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) While it is proven that global warming is happening on other planets in the solar system, it's not to blame for global warming on Earth. There's logic for you! It's all about a political agenda. GMAB. The majority of climate scientists and astrophysicists have a political agenda across the world? What would that be?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) It's a fact that global warming is happening on Mars, Saturn, Uranus. It has nothing to do with the Earth's atmosphere. Mankind did not affect affect the global warming on those other planets. There is a reason it's called a SOLAR system. From a simple google search on "global warming on other planets in the solar system": http://www.livescience.com/environment/070...ys_warming.html

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) Global warming is due to changes occurring in the sun. Global warming is happening throughout the solar system. Things happen in nature in cylces. That's what's happening now. At the turn of the previous millenium, they were growing grapes in England. As mankind has always done, we'll have to adjust to the climate changes as they occur. So the overwhelming majority of scientists around the world are completely wrong and the exponential growth of CO2 in the atmosphere over the past century is a direct result of the sun going through changes?

QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) I saw "Eastern Promises" last night. It was solid. Interesting movie about the Russian mob in London, starring Viggo Mortensen. There were a couple pretty brutal killing scenes, but it's mostly a plot-driven movie, which I always prefer. Saw it last night. Agree that it was solid.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) Hmm yeah, I guess he should be like Obama and just have God tell him what he needs to do, instead of just asking. It was just another example of him not knowing what he would do or not knowing about an issue. He seems like the least ready candidate in my life time. Why is he even running?

Excuse me while I go throw up.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Now he is finally letting the fighter out, but it might be too late. My gut says it's not too late. I keep thinking of where Kerry was in the polls at this time and he wasn't much of a factor. The number of people contributing to his campaign and the sheer number of people going to see him speak make me think he has a good chance.

So I went to the Al Gore dinner last night at the Hyatt downtown. I first saw him at the pre-dinner reception when he walked past me and gave me a nod. That was kind of neat. His speech was quite impressive. The main discussion point was climate change and the business world. He tried to drive home the point that the business leaders of today (the audience was comprised of Chicago's business leaders) need to foster the initiative and drive to make the changes needed to slow down global warming. The discussion covered many topics including China, the Kyoto protocol, etc. HE gave major props to Daley (who was seated at the deus) for environmental strides in Chicago. He interspersed some stories throughout; some serious and some humorous. He received a standing ovation upon his introduction as well as his closing remarks and I am sure there was quite a large representation of Republicans in the room if not perhaps a majority (I can't help but to think that most CEOs are Republicans...maybe I'm wrong). It was a great experience to be there and I am positive that if he was as laid back and 'human' as he comes across now, he would have won the 2000 election in a landslide.

Obama sure can rake in the money. His campaign sent out an email to supporters yesterday stating that they needed $2.1M in donations to catch up to Hillary's current war chest and whaddya know....1 day later he has over $1M in new donations. http://www.barackobama.com/index.php

QUOTE(NUKE @ Oct 17, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) Valuing some more than others? Are you trying to place someone who committed a brutal crime on the same level as an innocent old lady? How do you justify that position? I also find it ironic that many of those who say that preventing executions "values life" are the same ones who approve of abortion. ( Not saying you hold that position personally ). How is it so much more preferable to warehouse slime like this in jail......at the expense of the taxpayer...... for life than just eliminate it? How are we different than Saudis who behead? Why don't we just cut off the hands of thieves?

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) When did I claim that he didn't give anything? And why use an admittedly made up figure against me? My point was that he, being a rich guy who could easily make millions a year if he wanted to, is in a better position to afford the cost in giving money away. Therefore it's acceptable, IMO, for people to hold him to a higher standard or to expect that from him, especially since he's such a big advocate of helping the less fortunate. So you would give up half of your income to charity if you were a millionaire? A lot of millionaires don't give anything close to what Edwards donates. -
So I guess Nuke, Jenksismyb****, and others will not vote for anyone this presidential election cycle since the GOP candidates have lost their minds with this global warming propaganda....

And just like that a 5 run lead.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) Of all the stupid things they have done, THAT is the one that i can't fathom. WFT does it matter now, other than it will piss off someone moderately on our side now? Oh wait, did i just answer my question? Seriously, WTF? Gotta love lobbyists. I see no other way something like this gets brought up.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) and if you want to die at age 40. neat. Screw health. As long as you look good. Might as well do roids too. Yes, I realize I am being over the top but being healthy is important too.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) It's not supposed to mean anything other than he's not going to be president. I remember hearing about the cat calendar on the radio and thought it was funny. And yes of course I'm saying a cat should run for president. It just seemed like the most irrelevant thing to say after Gore just won the Nobel Prize. I guess I can say that Seinfeld reruns get better ratings than Law and Order reruns so Thompson won't become the president.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) Disturbing but funny in a Welcome to the Dollhouse sort of way. . . Agreed.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) This is the same Al Gore who's book was outsold by the yearly cat calendar. Not sure what that exactly means. Are the only viable candidates the ones that are ranked #1 in book sales? Or are you saying that a cat should run for president?
