My favorite user comment of the day (so far) from the Trib's Swamp blog. Was in the thread about Bush threatening to veto the new child's health care bill passed in the House:

FireStorm 2007
QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) Your kids become the bigger priority and their needs. When you are chasing around finding their stuff and making certain they are out of danger, the pets come second. kids > pets > kids' stuff Unless your house is literally on fire I can't imagine someone just saying "just leave the dogs".

THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: OCTOBER 25TH/I LOVE GEOFF BLUM
I watched that game downtown with friends and wound up getting home at around 2am. The next thing I did was try to move my flight to Dallas the next day to a flight to Houston and had no luck (Was working just south of Dallas over the next few days). I had to settle for moving up the flight to Dallas and driving from there to Houston. After driving for what seemed like forever, I pulled up a couple blocks away from Minute Maid and parked right on the street (crazy I know). First pitch was a half hour away and I walked around the park looking for scalpers with only $400 in my pocket. They actually had scalper booths set up around the park and it was all legal. Prices for a single ticket were going for $500 so I just waited around until the first pitch when some guy had a single ticket for $300. I jumped all over that offer and would end up sitting in the upper deck down the 3rd base line among a large group of Sox fans. Needless to say the game was awesome. I stuck around after the game to take photos near the Sox dugout and then proceeded to drive back to the small town south of Dallas where I had to work the next morning, getting calls from friends in Chicago throughout the drive back. I even played Don't Stop Believing and the Go Go White Sox song in the car a few times, with a tear in my eye. I was tired as heck the next day but of course it was all worth it.

Best World Series
The A's/Dodgers series in '88 was very memorable for me. I really hated the A's and they were heavy favorites if I recall correctly. The Gibson HR is one of the most memorable sports moments of my life.

World Series: Red Sox v. Rockies
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 12:03 AM) Is it just me, or when Joe Buck was talking about the success of Boston sports didn't he say "the White Sox made the world series." I swear he said White Sox instead of Red Sox. He did.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 06:48 AM) Untrue from every news report I have seen in the past few days. Even Chargers Stadium is allowing pets. I suppose it's easier to leave them behind and let the shelter workers risk their lives to save them. I hope none of them get their pets back and they are adopted out to owners who value their lives more than a book of pictures.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Bravo indeed. And it took the 1 independant in Congress to get it moving. I hope it passes. You just have to wonder how many pockets are lined in Congress with health care money from lobbyists.- GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) Romney wants to set federal student aid based on how useful your degree is to society. http://www.bostonherald.com/news/national/...ticleid=1038792 Seems like the worst idea, by far, from any of the candidates, and a lot of dumb s*** has been floated already. It would just result in colleges pumping out corporate drones and nothing more. What a douche bag.- For Dems only.
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) And on a different topic...this one is one I really like. One of the things that really annoys me about our healthcare system is that the priorities of the drug companies are completely screwed up. The biggest profit for them can be had in making a drug which doesn't cure people, but which people take to treat a symptom. In other words, if you actually were to produce a vaccine that killed the AIDS virus, it would eat into your profits significantly compared with having people need to take drugs for the rest of their life to manage the disease, and therefore, the for-profit structure drives research dollars away from many of the drugs that would be most useful to society, and on top of that, companies spend billions of other research dollars trying to develop slightly newer versions of older drugs that do nothing except allow the company to get around the generic drug competition. And then beyond that, companies spend tens of billions more on advertising trying to get you to take a drug that is to some extent optional (like Viagra), because if you don't take the drug the profit margin goes down. This bill, if it's structured right, could go a long way towards fixing that problem. Bernie Sanders of VT has put forward a bill that would establish basically a government sponsored, $80 billion/year fund through which companies that develop drugs would be reimbursed if they produce a drug useful to society. So, if you wanted to get the biggest profit in the drug industry, you wouldn't waste tens of billions on advertising and on sneaking around the generic drug laws, you'd get the biggest profit by developing actual new drugs that cure things. A system like this has the potential to dramatically improve the way the drug industry behaves, by putting all of the profit in the drug industry exactly where it should be; developing new drugs that help people. Bravo to Mr Sanders! Any chance this gets passed?- DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) You're all over the place. Ron Paul, Obama, Kucinich. Make up your mind! So seriously, are you to the point that Obama is sort of your main pick? Leaning that way. Kucinich has no chance at all. He's too far left for the main stream. Paul is the best of the GOP for me but that ain't saying much.- DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 10:11 AM) Where in Iowa? I know some towns pretty well, and could give you some recommended places to eat/drink/stay. Oh and by the way, good on you for volunteering to help out someone you support, no matter who it is. Not sure where yet. It's going to be a day trip on the 3rd. Will be carpooling with others so just waiting to hear from them.- DEM Primaries/Candidates thread

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) the candidate I plan to vote for isn't preaching to everyone else about how they aren't doing enough to stop poverty. The Edwards issue is that of hypocrisy and lack of leadership. If he wasn't making "look how great I am too poor people" a centerpiece of his campaign I don't think anyone would be calling him out on his lack of generosity and his large speaking fees . So exactly how much is he supposed to give for you to be happy? 100% of his income? Is he supposed to become homeless in order for you to not think he's a hypocrite?- DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) That's not the point. John Edwards is the one with the "two americas" platform. I won't go on any further from there. Why isn't that the point? He talks about poverty AND donates thousands of dollars to charity. It's not enough according to you and mr_genius so I wonder since this is so important to you how much is your candidate donating to charity? Does your candidate even care about poverty? What do they plan to do about it? What are there stances? Do they even have a message? - For Dems only.
