QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) I saw The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus last night. Good flick, interesting how they were able to seamlessly work in Ledgers friends as his alter egos. That's another one I plan on checking out eventually.

QUOTE (Soxy @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) The original bbc miniseries was excellent. I really, really, really enjoyed it. Refused to see the remake on principle. I didn't realize it was based on anything until the ending credits.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) I think the problem today is a lot of people come here for the easier life, but refuse to become American, despite gaining citizenship...they still love to float their countries flags. Go back there if it was so great. I'm all for people having opportunity, but recognize who gave you that opportunity, and MELT, as they love to say. Leave your flags where they belong, and understand you now stand beneath the star spangled banner. They want to be Americans, yet they don't. This annoys me to no end today. GMAFB about the flag b.s. Who gives a s***.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) Breaking the law is one thing -- accepting the consequences in such a situation is another. I'll be the first to admit that in a similar situation, I'd do the same...I'd accept the fact that I have to break laws to live, however, in doing that, I also have to accept the possible outcome of breaking said laws. In this case, to me, the risk would be worth the possible reward...but if I was caught, I'd also have to accept THAT outcome, too. My father fled Germany in the early 50's, depression ridden, and came to the US legally, painstakingly, and with no money. He made a life for himself and his family, and he did it 100%. He's an American citizen now, considers me and my brother Americans, and said he has no interest in returning to the country he fled. He embraced the American way in every aspect. I remember as a child, we were called down the principals office because my father had filled out the school application and crossed out what ancestry (when they still asked this), and wrote American for us. They literally told him you can't do that...and he said, well, I did...because that's what they are, Americans. They're not Germans. They've never been Germans. So they'll be treated as Americans. I appreciate the story of your grandfather. It's very similar to the story of my parents and many others of European decent. But if there wasn't an ocean between the 2 continents there'd probably be a heck of a lot more illegal from Europe.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:39 AM) I don't know, going away from the violence, and not breaking any laws are two things I try to do when I decide where to move. I don't think we're talking white collar people at these border towns. Your thought pattern changes a bit when you're at poverty levels. And did you frown upon those that crossed the Berlin wall to enter West Germany back in the cold war era? They were breaking the law after all.

I knew there was something fishy about that Diaper Cleaning van behind that Jewel in Bridgeport. I found it odd to have a satellite receiver on top.

So wait. We continue to pay Paulie's, AJ's, and Bobby's salaries next year when they're no longer here?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:25 AM) If you're willing to hold onto Rios, then you're still holding out hope for this team as currently constructed. I don't agree with this statement. You can keep Rios and make changes to 1B and catcher while tweaking your bullpen in the off season.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) You're missing another alternative...moving 100 miles south. It is a s***ty situation no doubt, but the options weren't get killed or sneak into the US illegally. You honestly can tell me if you were in that family's shoes you'd go south?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) IMO, no one who is high priced and could bring back high return can be considered untradeable if you pull the plug on the season. He's the guy I insist you must try to move, but for a high price. Lots of teams could have use for him for the same reason we'd want a high price. The Red Sox's OF plans are a disaster right now and they need bats. I don't know how Westmoreland is after his surgery, but if they offered him straight up for Rios, you'd hesitate? Remember, this is a good defensive CF putting up a >.900 OPS right now. That's a killer commodity, but a luxury a rebuilding team can't afford. But with our core of starting pitching the window to be a contender is about 2 or 3 years. You trade him away and spend how many years trying to replace someone like him in our outfield? And just to remind you, here are some notable outfielder names from the White Sox in recent years: Juan Pierre Scott Podsednik Carlos Quentin Rob Mackoviak Jermaine Dye Ken Griffey Jr Carl Everett There's probably more I'm forgetting but talk about an All Star team of suckitude (defensively of course).

Rios is untradeable in my eyes. He brings too much to piss away and hope we can build something from within. The guy is terrific on defense, an area we continue to sorely neglect.

^^And what would you do if that was your family? (Y2HH) "Sorry honey. We'll have to stay here and get killed my the drug cartel. I wouldn't want to impose on anyone by moving 100 miles north."

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 11, 2010 -> 08:18 AM) So no one's going to admit to "borrowing"? haha We did for a bit when I was staying at my wife's apartment before we got married.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 11, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) If Walker sucks so much, explain Konerko, Rios and Jones. Easy. Walker doesn't mess with the veterans. They're doing it on their own. Walker could go AWOL as of today and spend the rest of the year camping in Montana and it wouldn't make any difference to our hitting. He might be the most irrelevant person on the Sox payroll. He basically gets paid to fly around with the team.
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 11, 2010 -> 07:32 AM) Neither are these Sox. Close enough though.

The teams from the eras you mention weren't top 5 in payroll but I hear you.

Nice going guys. You didn't even bother reading the title of their poll. It's their mediocre 100.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 10, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) http://www.maxim.com/girls/articles/90539/2010-hot-100.html Are you kidding me? She doesn't belong in the top 100, let alone #1. Emanuelle Chriqui should be #1 imo. The list is automatically disregarded by me after seeing Kelly Ripa in it.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 10, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) Guy 1: "Closers need special experience! Closing is a special thing Santos doesnt have the experience" Guy 2: "Jenks didnt have the experience either in '05" Basically this post will save us 100 future posts in the next week. Just cut and paste as needed. If you ask me, Bobby has built a career off how easy it is for some people to close. When he's in there with the lead in the 9th, people overswing against him year after year. When he's in during a tie game, people calm down and just tee off on his middling offerings. This year, he's been so bad that situation doesnt matter. Now, if Santos is great, he'll be great in an array of situations. On the radio today Spiegel was going on about how Matt Thornton doesnt have the closer's mentality. Call me crazy but I'll take the arm and take my chances. You're crazy.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 10, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Yeah see that's not even really what I'm saying. Obviously it's KW's fault that we have too many s***ty players on the roster. It's not KW's fault or Ozzie's fault that guys like Buehrle, Floyd, Peavy, Quentin, Beckham, AJ, etc. are underperforming badly or otherwise sucking hot ass. I said that Ozzie should not be let off the hook for this, because Ozzie has shown over the past couple of years, independently of KW, that he is a moron. There is no reason to ever bat a player like Vizquel or Kotsay higher than 7th. None. But this is the type of s*** Ozzie does every other day. Thank you

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) White Sox hats. On Dr. Dre in the early 90's. On Justin Beiber in the early 10's. Not a good trend.
