  1. QUOTE (Soxy @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) Yep, just did it this summer. I did have a house to sell--it was a little bit of a nightmare but not a huge issue. Since the market is rough I went with a realtor who really focused on helping me get curb appeal and who was really good at staging. The house had an offer less than a week after she put up the MLS--it was really the banks that dragged things out for nearly three months. My new job offered minimal relocation costs BUT since they are a giant employer they have contracts with different moving companies for discounted rates. So, two moving companies work a lot with my employer so I essentially got half off my moving because of that connection. So that may be something to look into. Awesome. Thanks for the info.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) I've done it twice in the past few years, but never had to sell a house. Moving: I've done it 1 time by renting a budget truck, packing and unpacking myself. It saved a lot of money, but there was slightly more "Stuff damage". I didn't care about it because it was all stuff I was stealing from parents. I also didn't own a car at the time, so I didn't have to add in the car-hauler. The other time, I hired professional movers. Packing and loading was a lot faster. Shipping actually took a couple days longer while waiting on them. However, the drive was much more pleasant. It cost probably 2x as much though. Both times I've wound up renting a place sight-unseen thanks to the internets. The first time found an adequate place with a good location, but I probably would have looked elsewhere had I had the chance to stop and search for places early. Second time, found a much nicer place. If you go there for an interview and you're looking to rent...ask about what resources are available. Look for housing sale/renting magazines on the streets, ask if there's a local rental agency that you could deal with. I'm not sure I'd 100% recommend renting sight-unseen, but if you're looking for a month-to-month plan while shopping for a house, even if you find a poor place, you'd only be there a few months. I'd probably stick with the pros when moving. The wife and I have accumulated some pretty nice furnishings over the years and I'd hate to wind up damaging any of it.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:05 AM) Portland? I'm a little jealous. I've moved states a few times, but not since I've owned property. Would this company include things like housing assistance and moving assistance in the offer? That would be key, for me, to at least know if that is on the table for discussion. With the housing market as it is, you may have to take a decent hit on your place. And yes, I'd rent at first, until you get settled in and are sure you like the new job. We discussed that early on and they will not offer relocation assistance. In this job market I doubt any place would. I decided to continue the interview process since the salary would be a material increase over what I'm currently making. Plus I love Portland and this would be a pretty kick ass company to work for (Probably just gave it away).
  4. I'm in the interview process for a position out of state (Portland, OR) and I'm starting to get a little nervous that I might get an offer. There's so many things that I'd need to take care of since we own a house. Has anyone been through this before? What if I can't sell my house before I leave? Do I rent it for the time being? Do I drop the price significantly just to sell it? What if the sale price doesn't cover what I still owe? What the heck is a short sale? How do I find a place to live in the other city without flying back and forth several times and dishing out a boatload of $$ (Assuming I just get an apartment for the 1st year or 2). Anyone with experience moving your stuff across the country? What's the best way to handle that? Thanks in advance.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) Yes, but we all know the numerous ways they accomplish that. Burnt out taillight, tinted windows, etc. ...car full of Mexicans, etc
  6. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) True story. With Pods on this team, we'd at least have 12-14 wins, stellar left field defense, and a true threat on the bases. GMAFB. Pods alone would do jack s*** for this team, there are far too many other problems with this abomination of a baseball team. Yesterday alone would have been a help. How many men LOB did Pierre have? The game was close. One key hit in those situations could have scored a run or 2 and changed the complexion of the game.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) Rios Teahen Jones Konerko Q Beckham Ramirez A.J. Pierre. Hey I copyrighted that lineup.
  8. Who's going tomorrow for us? Our 5th starter, Peavy?
  9. Sorry but Mark is just a slightly above average pitcher these days.
  10. I'll still take Lucy's line over anything AJ would have provided tonight.
  11. 1 run on 3 hits through 5 for us. This might end up being the worse Sox offense in over 10 years.
  12. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) Odds he scores from third w no out? 100%
  13. There's the guy that should be leading off for us. f*** Pierre.
  14. I know Pods wouldn't have gotten that either but a lot of people here have been trying to convince me what a defensive upgrade Pierre is. Not seeing it.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) And Pierre misplays that. Buehrle's looked absolutely awful this season since game 1. Too bad Cardinals have no prospects, because he'd be the perfect person to trade. Agreed
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) Time for Smoak's 1st major league RBI? No. He got Smoaked though.
  17. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 07:59 PM) Its 69 degrees in Arlington right now. So the, its cold excuse is out the door. Beat you by 10 minutes on that one.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 07:56 PM) Why, I don't exactly have confidence in him after the last two seasons and his acquisitions. Not really sure what he can do to improve this team with the contracts we have, the lack of prospects, and the attendance figures. It would give Jerry an opportunity to fire him in person.
  19. I can't wait until Kenny gets back from his 3 month trip to Bora Bora.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) Francisco Liriano is dominating again. About to blow it open vs Verlander. They're really having no trouble whether on the road or at home. Elite pitcher or scrub.
  21. And to think Balta tried to argue that Beckham might have a career similar to Mauer's.
