QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) Well, first off "national socialists" = "right wing extremists" = the topic of that report. It's pretty much common knowledge that right wing extremists try to recruit vets, that report didn't even say anything new. The DHS was doing its job. FFS, this is what *I* do at work, at least part of it and on a different scale/problem set. Outlining threats within the homeland, etc. Bachmann and those like her used that as a political opportunity to manufacture outrage over basically nothing. Actually Bachmann is dumb enough to actually believe what she's saying. But regardless, yes, she and the rest of them do owe Napolitano an apology. Not because, you know, there were actual incidents of violence from actual right-wing extremists after that report was published (let's go ahead and add the guy who shot the cops in Pittsburgh to that list) - but for just being dumb enough to actually insinuate there was some kind of conspiracy against them. And believe it. the report was cricized for it's specific finger pointing at vets and people with Ron Paul bumper stickers. no one would care if it was a 'neo-nazi' report. no one owes her an apology, and she won't get one.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) By the way, I'd like to say again...how dare the Department of Homeland Security suggest that right-wing politically motivated violence/terrorism is a legitimate threat! uh thats more of a far left conspiracy theory. Iran supporter type stuff.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) Time to Apologize to Janet Napolitano? Iraq war vets and people in the military, groups mentioned as suspects in the controversial report, are actually targets of terrorism in the US. not the other way around. why would she get an apology? because a nationalist socialist killed someone?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) Not that about half of that number of uninsured is illegal aliens or anything... I hate that number because it is such bulls***. free health care for the world. why not? you can get here somehow you get free health care. everything free; surgery, doctor visits, hospital stays, everything. we can afford it. the country is only 12 trillion in debt.

Health care costs will continue to balloon out of control, and we will end up with single payer government system which will require massive tax increases if costs are not addressed.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 06:57 AM) Regulate the profits of insurance companies and the drug manufacturers (how to do this, I don't know). I'm not sure which one of those I hate more, but they work together. Drug companies can charge whatever they want, and the consumer never even knows how much they're paying since their insurance pays for it. And oh by the way - if you need to use your insurance, they charge you for it. It's pretty obvious the only thing they're interested is money, not your health. They don't even try to hide it. I don't think our current system is in the public's best interest at all. it's not all the insurance and drug companies. you need to limit the profits of doctors and health providers as well.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) And every other health care system in the developed world spends something like 2/3 to 1/2 the amount ours does while producing results that are at least equal and are in many cases vastly better, while not leaving 20% of its population out in the cold. many have limits of what medical providers can charge. see Germany and Japan.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) I'm more concerned with fixing this particular private industry, it's hilarious how bold they are about ripping us off without the slightest concern for consequences or backlash. how do you suggest we force the health care industry to lower their outrageous prices?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) That isn't a news article - its a feature piece by a US News and World Report writer. Bias in opinion articles is irrelevant. When its a NEWS article, then it matters. i wouldn't say irrelevant. constant ond sided bias within a publications pages shows systemic bias. the news coverage is likely biased as well in these cases.- The Republican Thread

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 09:30 AM) but for some reason, continue to check it out... The other day is see a headline on their site that says... Gallup-Cheney is more Popular than Pelosi!!! So I think to myself, wow... that's crazy. Need to click the link to find out more. What does Drudge's headline not tell you... that Cheney is also more Unpopular than Pelosi too. It's a Gallup Poll that has Cheney's popular/unpopular numbers at 37/54 with Pelosi's at 34/50. Now in fairness, the Gallup website and headline accurately describes the poll, where Drudge's does not. I've seen a bias before, but this is pretty bad. (and bad journalism if you can call Drudge that) thats fairly mild as far as news bias is concerned.- The "Ace" the Sox can get
