QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 02:08 AM) The #6 pick for a linebacker who'll be 27 in November and can't play in a 3-4 seems like an awful lot to give up. well, he is a pro-bowler and supposedly in the top 5 for his position in the league. you know what you're getting with Briggs. that #6 could be a bust. but if Angelo makes the deal i won't complain.

Iran siezes British troops
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Some people argue that the Iran seizure of the British naval vessel has a lot to do with Iranian diplomats currently being held by the US in Iraq. Iran is the best

Super Cool Article on Pitchers from ESPN
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) But if the Astros turned down Garland for Buchholz, Taveras (when we wanted to include Hirsch as well), how can you argue that KW would have gotten anything close to that for Garcia? Excellent point.

GAME THREAD: LAAAAAAAAAAA vs Sox, 3:05pm
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) I'm not singling anyone out, but some of the same people stating how Garcia had no value i don't think anyone is saying that. Floyd was the 35th best prospect in 2005. ok, last time i'm posting about this. it's so pointless.

QUOTE(Beltin @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) What is the age difference between the two? How many years left on JJ's contract? What is the annual salary? I could look up myself but am too lazy. Just curious if we are really comparing two apples here. Jennings http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...MLB&id=3326 Garcia http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...MLB&id=2739

GAME THREAD: LAAAAAAAAAAA vs Sox, 3:05pm
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) Jason Jennings: 212IP, 206H, 17HR, 85BB, 142SO, .258 BAA, 3.78ERA Freddy Garcia: 216IP, 228H, 32HR, 48BB, 135SO, .267 BAA, 4.53ERA One obvious difference between the two is Garcia gave up 15 more HR's. But then again, he gave up 37 less walks in four more innings pitched. All in the American League. In the toughest division in baseball. Is there really that much of a difference between Garcia and Jennings that Colorado receiving the #46 rated prospect in Hirsh (according to BP), a bullpen arm in Tyler Bucholz (good arm/mediocre results in minors), and a major league OF in Willy Tavares, should exceed Gio Gonzalez (good arm/fair results) and Gavin Floyd (medicore arm/poor results)? Hell no. Admit it. I've never said other teams could have thrown more at Williams. Just look at Philadelphia. I've already provided a quote within a Rosenthal article stating their baseball officials were shocked at our price. People just will continue to dismiss it, obviously. Asking for Gonzalez doesn't bother me. It's just that lumbering pile of crap in Floyd. Remove him, add Fabio Castro and an additional arm, the White Sox have potential within the deal and an arm (Castro) who could be plugged into the bullpen. If not, stretch him out for the rotation. Huge difference in those numbers. Jennings career is on an upswing, he is also younger. Garcia's career is almost over. Jennings had significantly better overall numbers last season to top it all off. I really don't care what Rosenthal said. Of course he is going to claim to have made a great deal, he wants to keep his job. Obviously, he was wrong. His "incredible rip off" of KW isn't working out too well, is it... Also, Floyd was 35th best prospect in all baseball in 2005 according to Baseball America. Not really a scrub. The trade was fine, please stop with the constant complaining about that trade. It is not a "make or break" type of thing.

House passes Iraq Withdrawal bill
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) Well, then let's get a fully public campaign financing system set up so that we no longer have to worry about Congressmen voting solely to appease their donors. To be honest, I don't know much about how that would work (the fine details and all) , but in principle I like it.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) If he didn't have value, then that poll that said he was one of the top 5 pitchers available on the market this offseason was drastically wrong. what poll? Ok, KW turned down better offers so he could get a lefty that can throw 90 mph, but on accident he signed a righty that everyone knows would suck. happy? FIRE KW!!

GAME THREAD: LAAAAAAAAAAA vs Sox, 3:05pm
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) Explain this to me -- is the difference between Freddy Garcia and Jason Jennings really enough to justify the large gap between the two deals? No. Colorado received exactly what we should have -- a generous return package. That was because the nature of the market overvalued mediocre pitchers. Williams didn't take advantage of it. Yes, there is that much of a difference. Also, you know what, Colorado made a great trade. KW wanted to get rid of Garcia (good move) and this is the most he could get. You really think he got better offers and turned them down ? That an old pitcher that has lost atleast 8 mph off his fastball that is at the end of his contract, and most likely career, is going to fetch a ton of top prospects from a team? Garcia is gone, get over it. Any time you trade for prospects there is a chance they won't work out. There is also a chance they will.

House passes Iraq Withdrawal bill
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) The Senate just Rejected, by a 50-48 vote, an amendment which would have stripped the "timetable" language from the Senate's version of the Iraq funding supplemental. obviously there weren't enough earmarks attached to that amendment for it to pass. "if i can't get that $ 500 million for the bannana farmers union, which donated money to my capmaign, i will not accept this amendment"

GAME THREAD: LAAAAAAAAAAA vs Sox, 3:05pm
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) If we don't learn from this, shame on us. Maybe we'll begin to look for legitimate players in future trades and not pitchers based around the belief that "Coop will fix em'" Sure, you can do that seperately ; just don't associate this philosophy with deals where the key goal should be receiving the most talent in return. Flash, you are under the false impression that Garcia had high trade value. the constant b****ing over here is getting old fast.

Lance Briggs Quote
I would go straight up, Briggs for the #6 pick. I wouldn't throw in our first round pick. Show that you're willing to let Briggs sit. If the Bears act desperate to make a deal because they "would rather get something than nothing" for Briggs, they'll get ripped off. Briggs is a top linebacker in the NFL.

Lieberman Proposed War Tax
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) Finally. Of course if people had to actually pay for the war it might hurt support. If that was directed towards me, it doesn't make much sense. I've been against the Iraq war since the beginning. If it was just a generalization, you may be correct. I'm sure most Americans don't realize how much money it's costing. But most Americans don't realize a lot things.

Interesting News
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) So if Brian does make the team as the 4th outfielder that makes Ozzie a hypocrite correct? 1.) He said Anderson would not be making the club as a reserve, he'd rather Brian get his ABs in AAA. 2.) He said the starting job in LF/CF would go to the player who performs best during the Spring. Good to see Brian is going to make the team but he got totally f***ed in this situation. Ozzie knows Anderson is going to end up being his starting center fielder at some point in the season. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I wouldn't be suprised to see Anderson starting on opening day.

Lieberman Proposed War Tax
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) Most of it is at least tangentially hurricane-relief related spending, at least the big chunks are, so you're probably right. That's what we get for Trusting Mr. Bush with U.S. cities. yea, i'm pretty sure that money isn't going to spent very efficiently.

Lieberman Proposed War Tax
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) And to top it off...that $20 billion is stuck in the Iraq war supplemental in order to get it passed (it'll be vetoed anyway)...so you get the best of both worlds! oh, i'm sure they'll tack that 21 billion onto some other bill.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) Here's an even better idea...end the Iraq debacle. That'll save us that $21 billion in like a week and a half. i fine with that too
