  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 06:28 PM) LAST I CHECKED THAT EMOTICON IS BANNED FROM THIS SITE.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) Now that doesn't make a lick of sense... you really do hate America
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) If it was easy to identify the "Right people" to be teaching those sorts of skills, we'd have a lot more people who have learned them . they are easy to identify. they are referred to as unemployed or underemployed.
  4. wow. I am watching Jennifer Granholm's speech. how did i miss this train wreck?
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) Didnt you hear Obama's speech last night, if you dream it you can achieve it. If you cant injure him alone, what about if the govt gave you a baseball bat. And after you beat Lebron we can all cheer, "We did that!". lol
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) I think if I tried to injure Lebron, I'd probably wind up bouncing off of him and landing 15 feet away. agreed. such an attempt to injure would surely end in catastrophic failure.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) Actually, that'd still be kinda cool definitely.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) I work at the intersection of finance and technology. My BA was in Political Science. Got the MBA later. Most of my peers did not come out of undergrad with a plan to work in financial tech - they all got their via other paths. I remember when half of the IT department had no degree at all.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) I wish I could debate Ryan. Id even let him pick the issues. That's like me saying I want to play basketball 1 vs 1 against Lebron.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) I've said it before I'll say it again, I've interviewed at a lot of companies, and a lot of those companies the senior management has had english degrees or odd degrees. ^^^ i see 'technical' people that have degrees in totally unrelated, easy degree stuff, all the time. but they are all over 30. new grads have limited opportunity.
  11. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) Now ask these youngsters what they got their degrees in. Because, you know, they have "a" degree...so the world owes them a living. The problem with a lot of these degrees I've been seeing as of late, is they're from what we like to call "degree mills", which are nothing more than "arts" degrees. AKA useless. back in the day those degrees could get them a job. not so much now. the labor market changed fast.
  12. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) Seriously?? Ryan spewed blatant lies for much of his speech. Such as blaming Obama for the closing of the Janesville auto plant that closed before he was even in office. He was just taking a little harmless liberty with things. Obama did say if the government gave out bailouts, the Janesville plant would be open. The government gave out tons of bailouts and the plant closed. That's all we was trying to say. Obama mislead them.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 12:45 PM) Regardless of what happened the last 4 years, that man can still give a speech. Now I remember why I got so fired up the last time around. He definitely can, and he is good at debates. Unlike Romney.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) Romney was hit for not being specific because people are still waiting for anything resembling an actual policy proposal from him. You have to vote for him first, then you can see his policies; which can change at any time if the political winds change ever so slightly.
  15. The most accurate grading scale for the speeches is as follows: Barack Obama : The usual Obama speech. I thought it was pretty good, he has a lot of stage presence and it is amplified now that he is president. Grade: B Michele Obama: The speech was terrible and it filled with falsehoods; such as her claim she grew up lower middle class. Her father was politically connected and worked a corporate job that paid, in today's dollars, over 280K a year. Grade: F Paul Ryan: One of the best convention speeches in a long time. Very accurate and to the point. Grade: A+ Mitt Romney: Not very good. Boring, no details, he looked liked like a rookie (eyes shadily looking around and glassed over a little). Grade: D-
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 11:41 AM) I was before, and pretty much always have been, neither Dem nor GOP'er. Posters like Balta and SS think I'm a Republican, posters like you think I'm a liberal. People here like to put me into one category or the other. But my views are on the left on some issues, the right on others, and neither on yet more. I've voted in 5 presidential elections so far: I've voted for 2 GOP, 2 Dem, and 1 Independent. And I'm still not 100% sure who I will vote for this time. I would put you in the corporate Democrat category. That being said, Romney is probably your guy this time around.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 09:48 AM) Now post-convention and two months out from the elections, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the UE rates, the jobs numbers, and the equity markets, are all gonna pretty much go sideways until election day. What both parties continue to ignore here, at the peril of the country, is that the continued unknowns are a bigger problem to business and market growth than EITHER side's actual policy efforts. More regulation on the markets and banks, or less, either way, get it down on paper and passed, and signal that this is the way it is for a while. Same for taxes, and government spending. This situation where everyone is holding their breath is the single biggest reason we aren't growing. You're starting to sound like a Republican NorthSideSox72.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 10:14 PM) dinosaur spaceship dr who episode, I DID THAT! grats
  19. I really thought they were going to boo this priest.
  20. Obama takes the stage and Balta just fainted in his living room
  21. Biden appears to have made it through his speech without any of his usual world class gaffes.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) WOOOO PAUL RYAN IS COMING TO KNOXVILLE! I GET TO SEE THOSE DREAMY EYES!!!! you lucky bastard
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) I think reddy organized for John Edwards in the past? that's almost worse than nothing
