Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:49 PM) There is absolutely no reason to give up on Viciedo yet. Give him another year in LF, then let him naturally move right in to the DH role in 2015 where he can just focus on being a great hitter. Then if he still can't hit as a full-time DH, then you can worry about moving him, which will be when he is still only age 26 and under contract. I mean, who else is going to DH for this team in 2015? We have no power studs in the minors who don't have a position. Our best bet would be like Andy Wilkins. Viciedo blows. -

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) Eaton was on a ROY pace before injury last season. If a guy like Gardner is a quality every day CF, Eaton very likely can get it done. Well, this is just a made up, alteration of facts. Someone predicting him to be ROY and then him getting injured does not put him on pace for ROY! -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:55 PM) It's not that I don't like the trade it's just that it's disappointing that Santiago didn't net them more. This rebuild is going to take some time if they only make incremental improvements in trading the few assets they have. It's Hector f***ing Santiago, not Cy Young. -
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:52 PM) That pass from Keith, and to catch a rocket pass on the backhand like that by Sharp...thing of beauty. Ho hum, 5-0 mid 2nd. #hawks

QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:12 PM) I like this trade, but i feel they should've been able to get a bit more because pitching is such a premium. Let me stop you right there. This is the year 2013, not 2003. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) And the Cubs are in the third year of their rebuilding and might have guys who could eventually end up there, but are still in the mid to low minors. Yup. Exactly. Somehow the Sox have skipped the whole "development" process and picked up three core pieces ready to take swings in the bigs on Opening Day. -

At the trade deadline last year, the White Sox did not have Avisail Garcia, Adam Eaton, and Jose Abreu. Today they do. For a team that had f*** all in terms of young offensive talent, these are three gentlemen with extremely high upside who will be in your 2014 Opening Day lineup. How anyone could complain over dealing Hector Santiago is beyond me. The White Sox pull pitchers out of their ass all the time. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:48 PM) I don't know what people are smoking. Eaton has an incredibly high ceiling, and the only reason he's getting dealt is because of his injury-riddled 2013. This is going to wind up being a steal - like Carlos Quentin 2.0 in terms of "holy s*** why'd they do this?" Hopefully he has more staying power, though. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) In 2007-08, the White Sox traded Chris Carter to Arizona for Carlos Quentin. Chris Carter was then later involved in a package to Oakland that sent Dan Haren to Arizona. It was essentially a three way trade of Chris Carter to Oakland, a bunch of other pieces to Oakland, Carlos Quentin to the White Sox, and Dan Haren to Arizona. In 2013-14, the White Sox traded Hector Santiago to LAA, but you could essentially argue that they traded Hector Santiago to Arizona for Adam Eaton. Santiago and Skaggs were traded to LAA for Mark Trumbo and a couple of prospects. In both cases, they bought low on otherwise highly rated Arizona outfield prospects. I think they believe that Arizona is good at developing outfielders. I beat you to it. Thus, I win. -

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) Did everyone just hear "grinder" on Eaton and let that color all their perceptions? That's what it seems like in this thread. Eaton is a high ceiling guy, of the right age to matter ASAP, who hasnt had enough MLB at-bats. For months we say this is the type of guy we wanted and now we get upset? I dont get it. I don't know what people are smoking. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) Emery has already said that he does not feel comfortable giving Cutler the money that will go to a franchise tagged QB. It's too much money. OH NFL executives! How you show all of your cards and never use the media during negotiations slays me! The Bears aren't interested in spending $16 million for one season of Jay, but they will if they have to - while Jay and his agent will simply say "we have no reason to sign a cheap extension.
-
How about f*** Jay Cutler for making this decision hard. What a colossal disappointment from initial expectations.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 11:02 PM) Still can't get over those catches by Jeffery two straight weeks. Unbelievable. Never thought he could/would be breaking more records in the Bears franchise's history (WR group) than Marshall. There's only one WR in the entire league I'd deal Alshon for - great pick by Emery.
-
This is a pleasurable game.

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Speaking as someone who has been loading up in his autograph cards on ebay, I hope the sox don't trade him Why? If he goes to a team people actually care about, those likely forged signatures will be worth more.

F*ckin' Trader Joe's is where it's at, b****es.

QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 01:00 PM) This made me laugh. First off losing Sale would really suck, but not five year suck. The right trade also has the opportunity to move up the team's return. Because there are a couple really nice lists of players that would be nice in return, I won't go there. I would like to mention if a team really does want Sale, Sale needs a teammate to go with him. A big teammate. Perhaps Dunn and all his contract. The last part here is a really good point.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 12:58 PM) f*** this team if they trade Sale. He's the best player we've drafted/had since 35. He's a top 3 pitcher in baseball, or at least the AL, going forward. You don't hear the National trying to trade Strasburg. And Sale has been just as good if not better. True, but the Nationals don't suck big ol' donkey dick.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 12:50 PM) Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 51m In order to trade Chris Sale, sources say, White Sox would be looking for a package much bigger than what David Price is expected to get. As they should be. His contract is f***ing insanely great. The guy is signed through 2019.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) You said you need a big package. hahaha

We saw Out of the Furnace over the weekend. It was decent and incredibly well-acted. Just needed something to bridge us to American Hustle next weekend. Then it's full-on Wolf of Wall Street waiting.
