  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 07:41 AM) As a long time XBOX user, having been a beta tester of the original XBOX Live, and a 360 owner, I have to say I'm disappointed in the X-Box One, or the XBone, for short. It's too expensive (500$ retail), the game fiasco where you don't own games is annoying, etc. So it's looking like Sony has won me as a customer for the PS4. Sorry, Microsoft...but we must part ways in the console business after more than a decade together. Plenty of discussion on the next gen over in the video games thread...
  2. My wife has an iPhone 5. Is iOS7 going to be an OTA update? I'd like to know to tell her to hold off until it's smoothed out.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 06:57 PM) This was the moment that made me go "hmm..." There's nothing wrong with taking from a competing product that's better. Design-wise I like what iOS 7 has to offer. They finally got rid of the awful leather and gloss that was the look of something made in 2007 (you know, back when Vista was considered a pretty UI). Flat design is all the jazz these days. What's disappointing is that iOS still doesn't offer any real user customization like Android without having to jailbreak. They finally did get a better notification center and system toggles (FINALLY). But you could have gotten those things with jailbreak tweaks before. I'm an Android guy, but they didn't invent the universal icon for wifi and battery life. Digital clocks have been around a really long time, too. I'm pretty sure they precede smartphones, even.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 07:50 AM) So how about moving past the thread ruining TV talk and start some series predicts? I plan on dusting off the ol' flapship and posting something today. F*cking work getting in the way of time killing. Anyway, I say Hawks in 6, but very similar to 2010. Win 2 at home. Lose 2 on the road. Take the last 2. Dance in B-Town.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 07:49 AM) Comcast SportsNet ‏@CSNChicago 8h The hobbled #Bulls will get rest this offseason, and the team may change its conditioning methods: http://bit.ly/19jIhcV #BullsTalk The first chip in Thibs' armor. The clock has started ticking on bringing a championship to the city, regardless of regular season accomplishments.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 08:12 PM) http://deadspin.com/what-the-hell-is-going...ching-511086286 Very Bizarre if it is because of Hollinger That's ridiculous.
  7. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) What was your opinion of Robin Ventura after 225 PAs? Ninja Turtles and Nintendo
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 06:07 PM) Lionel Hollins officially out as coach of the Grizz. They only surprisingly made it to the Western Conference Finals after trading their highest paid player. NBD.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 05:13 PM) Also, I've watched plenty of NBC programming. Whenever they do their national sports updates, they advise which channel the game is on. During the local AND national news, the ticker does say to find the games on NBCSN. During other events, they promote and discuss the channel. During the French Open on Sunday morning, they discussed the game, the schedule, what channels they would be on, and ran it in the ticker. They did exactly as recommended. And you still found it through Google. The info is out there. The games are available. I'm done defending a smart business move both by the NHL and NBC because of some ignorant folks who refuse to do more than punch in channel 5 on their remote control. I'm not being fair. I mean to walk to the tv and twist the dial and adjust the rabbit ears.

  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 05:08 PM) Steve, You seem to be missing the point. The NHL has X fans who are diehard who will find the games, who will watch the games regardless. You then have Y fans, who are not diehards, who may want to watch 1 or 2 games, but arent necessarily going to go searching for the content. It seems ridiculous that the NHL is not trying to at least advise Y fans where they can find NHL playoff games. You know how easy it is for NBC to run a ticker at the bottom or during news to say "If youre looking for the Hawks turn into our sister station NBCS", or do something to let casual fans know "HEY THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN FIND AND MABYE BECOME INTERESTED IN HOCKEY." I own the stupid channel, when the first Hawks game was on it, I had to go on the internet and type "What channel are the Hawks on." I would think that the NHL/NBC would want people to already know where the game is. But hey, Im not a real hockey fan, what do I know? But you were smart enough to find it. This isn't a "hockey fans vs non-hockey fans" argument. Everyone just wants to make it that. It's understanding common business that the NHL made the deal they could and networks that are more freely available had no interest. Then mis-information came into the thread about not being able to watch the live stream of hte game which was just downright false. The games are available in spectacular quality with the best announcing tandem in professional sports. To anyone. Anywhere. There are only two games not OTA, and if you have the internet, you can get them.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) Great for the network...duh...but for the NHL...not so much. Having NBC tied to your network instead of Outdoor Living and some randomly made up name of Versus is a dream for the NHL. It's not a dream for the 1% of people out there who don't have the channel, refuse to download an app or pull up a webpage, won't go to a friend's house, won't go to a bar, and like to ridicule the sport openly all while b****ing about not being able to see the sport. Hilarious.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 05:04 PM) It'll be huge when it lands some major sports. Troll much? Also, Notre Dame football is a pretty big draw. MLB, NFL, and NBA are spoken for - name the next major sport. It's the one you love to ridicule but then love to b**** about not being able to watch. I'm glad you can't watch games 2 and 3 after a comment like that!
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 05:01 PM) Ok...so I'm a pretty big sports fan. I had absolutely no idea that NBC sports existed until today. Until today. Two full rounds of Chicago Blackhawks hockey have been on this channel. It is only a problem today. For two whole games of a 7 game series. Big problem.
  15. NBC will live stream to PCs, mobile devices and tablets through NBC Sports Live Extra. NBC Sports Network will live stream to PCs, mobile devices and tablets through NBC Sports Live Extra, and to the digital platforms of participating cable, satellite, and telco services, via “TV Everywhere.” “TV Everywhere” is available on an authenticated basis to subscribers of participating MVPDs. Note the AND. TV Everywhere requires authentication. NBC Sports Live Extra does not. I know this, because my wife got tired on Saturday night. I couldn't utilize the DirecTV app to let her watch my tablet in bed for the overtimes, so I downloaded the NBC Sports Live Extra app. I did NOT authenticate. It worked. Try it. It will work.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) Yeah, stupid consumers wanting products to be easily accessible and usable! I hope neither of you guys are in marketing. I am in marketing, actually. Sometimes marketing doesn't make the important calls, but I'll tell you what, the exposure the network is giving the NHL would be a marketer's dream.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:55 PM) You've already been told that you have to already have a cable or satellite package to do this. More and more people are "cutting the cord" and dumping cable/satellite. If the NHL thinks the future is in premium-tier sports networks for the fourth-most-popular sport, more power to them. Way to not read the post. You don't need to be authenticated. That was the whole point of my adding the f***ing post. You only need to be authenticated for "TV Everywhere". But I digress. We're at this point of the argument due to ignorance, anyway.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) Man die-hard hockey fans sure do melt down if non-die-hard fans wish they could watch the entirety of the SCF without needing to pay for upgraded cable packages. But you can watch every game.
  19. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:46 PM) Dude what channel? I can never find the f***ing games. It's as if there are still people somewhere who channel flip and don't have the capability to search within their cable box or have a magical guide. Also, never, ever google it. Also, good God, you bunch of whiners! You CAN watch this s*** on your PC without authenticating. Whoever went through authentication had the wrong link. For the first time ever, the Stanley Cup Final will be streamed live. NBC Sports Live Extra -- the NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, and tablets -- will live stream all Stanley Cup Final games. NBC Sports Network games will be live streamed via “TV Everywhere,” the media industry’s effort to make quality content available to MVPD customers both in and out of the home and on multiple platforms. For desktops, NBC Sports Live Extra can be accessed at NBCSports.com/liveextra. The NBC Sports Live Extra app for mobile devices and tablets is available at the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and on select Android handset and tablet devices within Google Play. Stanley Cup Final games airing on: NBC will live stream to PCs, mobile devices and tablets through NBC Sports Live Extra. Click here for the participating cable/satellite/telco companies offering NBC Sports Live Extra: http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2013/06/...xtra-providers/ The authentication is only to use "TV Everywhere" with your television. So yeah, you can watch the games for free here. And holy f***, all I had to do was Google it.
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:43 PM) Maybe he could write about NBC's top-rated primetime lineup? The reason for the two games to be on the NBC Sports Network is not due to NBC's summer lineup of reruns. It's due to NBC smartly putting money in sports and a network that is going to be very huge very soon. It's as if no one here understands that the NHL and NBC have a partnership. No one gave a F*CK about the NFL Network until it started getting games. Now it's available everywhere.
  21. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) LMAO. This has come full circle. Steve, if you could do a Flapship write up on other s*** people can watch on Saturday and Monday night because the NHL f***ing sucks, that'd be great. Can't do it. I'll be watching hockey!
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) Nope, just a guy who would like to watch the Blackhawks throughout the Stanely Cup Finals, generating advertising revenue for the NHL, and annoyed that I can't. Settle for the 5. It's not the end of the world. Or, if you do care enough, upgrade your package for two weeks. Or watch it via the app. Or watch it at a bar or a friend's house. Or, do what the NHL and NBC rightly want you to do, and call and b**** to your cable provider. Good God, TBS had one measly first-round Cubs game and Chicago went bats*** crazy to get TBS in HD on Comcast. Write a strongly-worded letter to get it in a tier that works for you (odd, though, since Comcast and DirecTV have no problem providing this channel).
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) When you have kids and families there are plenty of people that are going to not be in front of a TV enough to watch every game and to spend an extra $15/month for something like that. And the reality is the big money isn't in the $ spent at the arena's, it is in the overall ratings and the better the ratings the more ad revenues and the bigger the tv contracts. 78 million homes
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) I don't care...I get a great price and love my service. I had directtv prior and overall I like what I have. And I get BTN and plenty of other channels that bring more value to me then a network that boasts hockey and MLS games (and some s***ty conference football/basketball games). If you wanted to broadcast on a non-existent channel just broadcast all your games on the NHL channel and pump that up. doesn't care about hockey b****es about not getting hockey The NHL has lost a true opportunity, here.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) Stop f***ing locking out and start actually playing the sport regularly for more then 5 or 6 years and maybe you don't have this problem. Greedy players and owners are the reason they are in this s***ty situation. Yes, the sport has done well because some of the top markets are performing (you have SoCal and Chicago both being huge rating booms for the league in recent years) but you know what could have been if the league and players hadn't royally f***ed up. You had to start over as a league. NHL and the players made this mess. What s***ty situation? As has been described, this NBC deal the NHL made has been fantastic. Hockey is doing wonderfully. Also - please add the exact post above about locking out to the NBA thread.
