Garmin Forerunner Recommendations?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) Suunto makes some products for that as well that are quite good, but also pricey. Might want to check those out too. Thanks, man. I wound up going with the Suunto M5 and the foot pod. This will be perfect and much more suitable for her workout schedule (gym rat every morning, runs on weekends).

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) Yep. This is certainly not the typical New Manager Introduction press conference. Everyone. It should certainly be noted that this was not a press conference. This was a media session done by telephone. It's sole purpose is for reporters to pick up quotes and bylines. It's very rare, and also very out of the ordinary, for something like that to be aired. I'm pretty surprised the Score put it on the airwaves.

QUOTE (Wedge @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) Phil Rogers: "Sounds like you're in the deep end Robin" Robin: "Yup, but I can swim Phil." Is that Robin Ventura or JFP?

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) He's not coming across too well. Seems like both he and Kenny are stressing that he's going to need a lot of support. Not surprising, since he has no experience coaching (note - coaching, not managing) on any level.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) Steve, Maybe its because some of the most famous baseball managers were "player managers." I think its interesting (insert stupid) that people dont want to research the fact that there is almost 0 correlation between MLB managerial experience and success at the major league level. I think its interesting (insert stupid) that people dont believe Robin can be a good manager just because he hasnt been a coach. Whatever the facts, I really cant imagine anyone creating a good argument that MLB manager is harder than NBA/NFL. And thats the comparison. I find it truly interesting that you continue to only reply to my posts questioning the move, yet ignore all the posts that say I hope he does well and I love the man.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) Maybe it has to do with the fact that so many first time managers have had great success at the big league level like ....Ozzie Guillen. No managerial experience is quite different from no coaching experience.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
It's so difficult for me to separate my love of Ventura the player with my feelings on this move. I wish I could look at things through JR-colored glasses, but there's a reason managers are paid and there's a reason some are held in high-regard and some aren't. There's also a reason that you don't just hire someone who's never done anything remotely close to this job on any level. I have to imagine a lot in the industry are going to be pissed. I have to imagine the White Sox lost even more respect in baseball. I'd like to see a Riggleman or someone like that in as bench coach to guide Robin along. I hope Robin does great, of course, I just question the decision for an organization that has so much on the line after failing to do anything right lately.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) I wasn't endorsing that link, I was just posting it. Very few articles of analysis out there yet. The Chicago media is still figuring out how to spin it so it seems brilliant.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
I find it interesting that so many people are quick to point out that there's really not that much to managing a Major League Baseball game. I find it interesting how trivial so many think it to be, yet the manager is in charge of over 100 million dollars of contracts. I find it interesting how many people think having a manager is extremely unimportant, and that anyone could do the job. I find all of that very interesting. In this post, feel free to substitute the word "interesting" with the word "stupid".

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) If we signed anybody but Dave Martinez, people were going freak out. Dude, this statement is completely inaccurate.- Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Steve, NBA and MLB are apples and oranges. Im pretty sure that Robin can read stat sheets and make better decisions than Ozzie. I kinda typed that exact statement in the post you are replying to... had you used the QUOTE feature it'd be easy for people to read that. Robin was my guy. I was crushed when he turned his ankle backwards. I like him. I just wanted someone with experience and to feel like the team was headed in the right direction.- Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) Translation: "I was looking for a cheap yes man" Absolutely. Hey, we've all been saying for years it's not too difficult to out-manage Ozzie. Someone with zero experience sure fits the bill. Apparently, having any coaching/managing experience is never too big an issue for Reinsdorf teams.
