QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) That no one else would step in with a better offer if they thought he was a .850 OPS CF, that the Cardinals would part with him for the price of a .740 OPS corner OF even if he was in the manager's doghouse. The problem there is there isn't much pitching on the open market. At least 5 teams have been linked to the Cardinals and Rasmus, the Rays are hot after him too. I trust that scouting department.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) The big question here is, why do you still talk to your dad? The bigger question is, why does my dad still talk to me? Sure, it's his fault for moving to Chicagoland when he grew up in St. Louis, but he raised me as a Cardinals fan, but my inability to watch Cardinals games plus someone called The Big Hurt turned me White Sox in the early 90s when I was 9 or so.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) Let me put it this way. I've seen the Sox acquire an underperforming but very talented CF recently. We're currently regretting the Hell out of that move. Yeah, there's differences in contracts, but we also gave up nothing to get that current underperforming CF. I'm just asking someone to convince me about why Rasmus will come here and be an .850 OPS guy when he's a .740 OPS guy right now. Or at least tell me "He's got a xxxxxx that has bothered him all season right now". Or something like that. Y'all can't seriously expect me to believe that "Walk will fix him" is the answer. Alex Rios - 28 at acquisition Colby Rasmus - 24 Alex Rios - $9.7 million in 2010, $12 million each in 2011 and 2012 and $12.5 million apiece in 2013 and 2014. Colby Rasmus makes much much much less. PLEASE don't compare those two situations again. The only similarity between the two players is the fact that it says "CF" next to their name. Rasmus hits from the other side, runs better, has world's better discipline, and more natural power. The situation in St. Louis is a f***ing joke. LaRussa has made it his personal goal to "win" against Rasmus, and publicly shoots the kid down every chance he gets. The dynamic between Rasmus and the club has further eroded since Mozeliak publicly asserted that he was adamantly opposed to trading the team's 2005 first-round draft pick. Manager Tony La Russa acknowledged before Saturday's game that he now considers Jon Jay his primary center fielder while Rasmus sorts through a two-month slump. La Russa two weeks ago defended his coaching staff against any charge of being unable to help Rasmus by citing Rasmus' preference for "outside" hitting assistance. Jay's Saturday start against the Pittsburgh Pirates was his fifth in eight games. Rasmus entered Saturday's game as a defensive replacement after pitcher Jaime Garcia was allowed to hit for himself with a runner on base in the top of the eighth inning. Only LaRussa would stick Jon Jay out there and make it so public he's doing so while benching Rasmus. Colby does not work well with LaRussa's pin-up boy Mark McGwire, and has been funding his own instructor just to get out of his slump. Of course, this doesn't sit well with Tony, as YOU MUST WORK WITH MY BABY BIG MAC. The situation is s***. The White Sox would be getting an elite talent and future superstar for a sweetheart deal here. If the trade were offered to Kenny, it'd be done already.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 08:32 AM) Why does it seem no one is nervous about the step back Rasmus has taken this year? Serious question? Are we just expecting him to return to form the moment he hits Chicago? The Cards are my second favorite team due to my dad, I follow them like a Hawk, I watch tons of games on mlb.tv, even John Rooney (the great) has mentioned numerous times that Rasmus is having clubhouse problems. Drinky LaRussa has never taken Rasmus out of his doghouse. Rasmus doesn't gel with Big Mac as a hitting coach, and he's also been unlucky with balls in play. I've seen a lot of Colby Rasmus, and the kid has elite upside. Given this rumor (that I still don't believe) involves a walking Edwin Jackson (both in terms of his contract status and the way he pitches), a 35 year old reliever making good money, and a prospect not named Viciedo, it'd be a no-brainer if the rumor were true.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) It's getting ridiculous really (not his post just those types). The best left handed reliever/set-up man in the game prior to this season... Yeah, jeez, what a shocked that a guy in his mid-30s is starting to show signs that he's in his mid-30s. Good call, bro.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Yikes... I don't quite get it why no wants to look at the value of pitching in this market right now... I don't quite get it why you don't understand the value of Colby Rasmus now and in the future...

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) Peavy worked out of the bullpen and still made his next start. Im pretty sure they just want to cut down innings, so if Humber pitches 1-2 out of the pen this week instead of 10-12 thats a significant reduction of stress. As much as I want to be up in arms about this move, I think badger is spot on here. Move along everyone, no need to lose your s***. Humber is tiring, give him a little rest here this week since next week chances are we won't have Edwin Jackson on the roster.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) Beckham hasn't been very good this year and is also a 2B. I think Gordon's been pretty damn valuable this year. Gold glove defense and ok offensive production = pretty solid.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) Now I can turn this back on you. You're so skeptical of Rasmus, yet you have this unequivocal faith in GB. I want them both. If you ask me who I think is a better, more skilled player, I'd say Rasmus without hesitation. But I want all the cost-controlled talent we can corral. Hey, honestly, I'd have a pretty positive outlook on our future with both Rasmus and Beckham in the fold. That's two guys who are going to figure it out and be a part of really good future White Sox teams. This is what drives me nuts. Everyone heard "all-in" so they think the future means dick. The White Sox supposedly can land Colby Rasmus. My God, this is a kid who projects to hit .280 with 30 bombs and 30 steals yearly... he's had a 133 OPS+ season and is still just 24. The room to grow is apparent, and a change of scenery would do wonders for him. Ugh, if the Sox pass on the chance to get him, I'll be very upset. However, I feel this "rumor" is just that, because if this offer is on the table and Kenny passes? Pish, bye bye baseball for me. I just don't think this rumor has any truth to it. Kenny Williams deals either happen or they don't. You NEVER hear a peep about them prior to the trigger being pulled. That alone makes me think this ain't goin' down.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) Which is totally negated by his replacement level performance this year. Sounds like Edwin Jackson! Whom some folks want to hold on to despite the fact that he's walking after this year. Deal Jackson, go 5 man, profit.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) Isn't his performance a ? too after this season? I'm sorry, I don't recognize the question as I don't recognize the avatar. However, no, I'm not going to let 3 months define an up and coming kid who projects to be a superstar, just like I'd be nuts to think that Adam Dunn is a .160 hitter with little power.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:10 PM) Rasmus put up huge numbers in April. Since then he's been total garbage and he can "play" CF. Carl Everett could "play" CF in 2003 and Rob Macowiak could "play" CF in 2006-7 and Ken Griffey Jr. could "play" CF in 2008. There is a difference in playing CF and actually being good at it. You're all gung ho now, if this trade happened, and it appears the rumors aren't true, I think you will be dissappointed. I think a lot of people would. I think if it were presented KW would have to do it as long as he felt Rasmus and his baggage wouldn't be a problem. Maybe they could keep it from being a problem for a while, but eventually......................... Yeah, the only ? on Rasmus is his attitude, which has been a problem with LaRussa. However, anyone saying that Edwin Jackson or Matt Thornton is too much to pay is nuts. There's no way that either of those two + a relief prospect land this kid.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) Yeah, this has been known for a while. Been gone all day and catching up, my bad, baller.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) you don't think we can win this division? I don't think Jackson and Thornton off this roster really hurts this team's chances of competing. Jackson has been barely over replacement level this year and Thornton has been the least opportune player on our roster since day 1. Roll the damn dice, take the 24 year old could-be stud, see what you can do from here on out, and come the offseason you still have said could-be stud vs no Jackson, no 35 year old reliever. It's a win-win.
-
Also, really, you don't have to trade TCQ to acquire Rasmus, you can just platoon Pierre and Rios until Rios hopefully finally wakes the f*** up. Imagine if Rios woke up and played how he did the first-half last year and if you could run a Rios - Rasmus - Quentin outfield out there? /fantasyland
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) Dreaded 'R' word. I went back and forth, but not jumping on this rumored deal would be just that, there's no worse way to state it... and I knew it. You don't pass on a Rasmus for an old reliever and a soon-to-walk mistake you don't need.
-
Interesting new take on the deal, saying it's not Jackson AND Thornton, it's one or the other.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) what about my post that said 'this year' wasn't clear? quentin right now, this year > colby rasmus I imagine All-In doesn't mean f***ing retarded.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) rasmus IS NOT BETTER THAN CARLOS QUENTIN, RIGHT NOW. He's struggling this year, yeah, but the kid had a 133 ops+ at age 23 while playing elite defense in centerfield.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 07:21 PM) When does Walking Dead start again? I'd imagine around Halloween like season 1. That was a really smart debut night.

So Captain America was pretty awesome. Also rented "Limitless", and that rocked.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 01:53 AM) it wouldn't be an NFL season without: Jesus H. The guy can't even spell Favre but we're supposed to believe his horses***, made-up trade rumor.
-
Really, if you can get Colby Rasmus for the mistake that is Edwin Jackson, plus Matt Thornton's old ass, plus a relief spect, you do it immediately. This rumor clearly isn't true, or else Kenny would have made the deal already and then put TCQ on the open market.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) Today is already the wettest calendar day in Chicago history (6.91"). My basement agrees. Thank goodness the section of Lombard I live in is quite elevated and has never had flooding issues. My poor buddy lives in another part of Lombard and has been quite unlucky.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) Yeah, one of these things is not like the other. Yeah, I thought the same thing.
