  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Dunn needs to hit the DL. Minimum 15 game trip, but it allows like 7-10 days to clear his head and completely forget about baseball (while still training) and then you get him 5 games against garbage in AAA. I've been saying this for a month.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) I love ignorant statements that have no merit. Save the fact that Adam Dunn has stated he doesn't pick up a baseball bat in the offseason. There's some merit there... I'd reckon picking up a baseball bat might assist in his not sucking so much.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) I'll beat everyone else to it: Brandon Allen has homered in each of his last two games for ARI. He only had a .933 ops last year and a 1.006 ops this year in AAA, not to mention a near-.800 OPS in the bigs last year. We needed Tony Pena, and trader Kenny got him. I don't think Allen will be some amazing 40 homer bat, but I'd rather have a bag of golfballs than Tony Pena.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) Like, say, Batman Begins? Batman - 1989 Batman & Robin - 1997 Batman Begins - 2005 difference from first - 16 years difference from last - 8 years Spider-Man - 2002 Spider-Man 3 - 2007 Spiderman: Lame - 2012 difference from first - 10 years difference from last - 5 years I think the difference here, really, is that the original Batman is a generation ago and told a very disimilar origin story, and that franchise derailed completely (see nipples and ice hockey vs Arnold Schwarzenegger), while Spider-Man still seems recent, and despite the fact that the third one sucked, people liked Tobey McGwire. Whereas Batman Begins was a true, needed reboot, the new Spiderman seems to be preparing to tell a nearly identical story, save rightfully using a web-tool vs having Spider-Man randomly able to sling goo from his wrists. Other than that, we've still got Uncle Ben, Mary Jane, etc, and what seems to be a very similar storyline, but with a different actor. It seems rushed, but I guess when you plan to make a gazillion Avenger movies you need a younger Spiderman.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) Jim Thome was an absolute monster in 2006. Thank you for agreeing with me.
  6. What a terrible situation for all parties involved. Honestly, aside from continually hitting him 4th, Ozzie is doing what he should.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) JP is still dead in my eyes. When you make as much slappy contact as he does, some hits are going to inevitably fall in. I'd venture to guess his BABIP is well over .350 since May 1. Bottomline is he doesn't produce runs. His one tool, speed, has deteriorated considerably. An extra basehit of any kind is out of the question. And then there's that throwing arm. JP is no stud, and was a huge pile of s*** to start the season, but he's been on pace 42% of the time in July (15 games) and has only score 10 times. You can't blame runs solely on him. However, he still definitely sucks. I'm just much more disappointed in Dunn and Rios.
  8. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) Well even that's arguably jinxed. Because that was supposed to make us even better than '05 on paper and for one half it did, and then it went over the cliff. Then came 2007. Gulp. Yeah, but Big Jim was still pretty awesome in 2007 and 2008 (hello monster CF bomb in blackout game). I don't expect every season to wind up in a World Series, but I do hope that big time acquisitions can perform.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) 15 consecutive weeks of god awful hitting lead me to believe that he is not going to hit any time soon. I don't care what he did in 2009. Or even 2010? Or how about 2008? 2007? WAIT! Gimme 2006! What has happened with Dunn is beyond explanation. Everytime he strikes out, a part of me dies inside. I was 100% certain he was a- going to be a monster in the Cell, and b- lead a deep team into the playoffs and possibly to a World Series. I swear, the White Sox are just jinxed in terms of big acquisitions, lately. The last one to work out was Jim Thome.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) .710 OPS, 71% on stolen bases. Yeah, that's irreplaceable. It's not irreplaceable, obviously, but there's more to complain about than Juan Pierre. He's gotten himself going and has not been an issue as we remain torturously close to the top of the division but are going nowhere because we have two worthless, much higher paid players on the roster than Juan Pierre. I'm going to "tip my cap" to Juan, because at least he's contributing now.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 08:56 AM) Because that's what tipping your cap means. You couldn't get the job done because the pitcher you faced was very good. I recommend you and Balta have a nice sit-down and hash things out. The "hyperbole" comment was just so out of left-field and inaccurate it's silly. You tip your cap when a pitcher kicks ass like that... that's a common baseball term. You two have been bickering and I would like to see that settled. However, as an outsider, in both areas where this has happened it's been Balta inexplicably picking a fight. Come on, buddy, we all know you're better than that. As for Greg Walker, I have officially given up. Clearly every piece of management with this team is on a raft headed for safety as the ship plunges further into the depths of Lake Michigan. The Tigers, who have at least been in 1st at some point recently, fired their pitching coach (ie held someone accountable), but the Sox just won't f***ing do it. On a team with so many exceptional hitters contributing nothing, the hitting coach should go... that's just f***ing baseball. However, it's not f***ing happening, either.
  12. Aside from our middle infield, the defense has been nothing special. We don't hold runners on, and the outfield has been bad. The pitching has been quite good, but there's not much range on the roster save the aforementioned middle infield.
  13. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) Yeah we can, but yeah we won't. Yeah, this.
  14. Here we go again! Of course the organization wants to take advantage of a story that got some publicity, they'd be nuts not to; however, I also see no issue with that.
  15. This team is what it is... barely .500 and completely forgettable in a few seasons. What a disappointment.
  16. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Does anyone else think that Abby Wambach and Patrick Kane share a striking resemblance, especially considering the different genders? What the f***? No, it's not even close.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) Except even then Ozzie would still sit him. Better point.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Well, technically, if Flowers played well enough that AJ never played again, that would mean Flowers was putting up like an 1.100 OPS. I hope Flowers plays that well too. Well, good point.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) My coffee today from La Colombe was served at 190, I know because i checked it with an instant read thermometer. I just don't have words for this.
  20. QUOTE (forrestg @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) I am be choosing Flowers as my pick to click. I hope he plays well enough that Ozzie never plays Aj again. Yeah, screw AJ! He's just a catcher who's hitting .290! I hate him so much. UGH
  21. I just HIGHLY doubt Sale is ever useful as a starting pitcher.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) It still looks easy for him. He walked away limping.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) Curb has been awesome so far. I laughed during the whole visit to the women's safe house scene. I seriously meant to post this last night. The first two episodes this year have been far funnier than any of the episodes last season. I was laughing so hard at the latest one.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:38 AM) Maybe Halladay is the opposite of Alexei Ramirez? Dusty Baker said it best...
