July 15, 201114 yr White Sox signed LHP Doug Davis to a minor league contract. Davis was released by the Cubs at the end of June after posting a 6.50 ERA over nine starts. The veteran left-hander will provide depth at the Triple-A level
July 15, 201114 yr Seriously? Why not just promote from within to AAA? This is just stupid. We have four lefties in the pen better than this turd. He won't ever see the MLB roster, and if he does... Edited July 15, 201114 yr by maggsmaggs
July 15, 201114 yr In the event that 2-3 starters are traded we now have another warm body to fill the spot
July 15, 201114 yr Can I have that contract please? They'd probably get the same value if it was me pitching
July 15, 201114 yr Author I find it comical that management didn't even think damage of the jokes being made at their expensive might outweigh the bombs given up by Davis in Charlotte.

July 15, 201114 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) I love it when people overreact to a minor league deal signing. I think people are playing around for the most part. Nobody cares about this waste of a signing.

July 15, 201114 yr Thinking about this a bit more - I wonder if this is insurance in the case should Peavy be unable to continue and a starter is dealt. Never know.
July 15, 201114 yr QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 05:16 PM) Thinking about this a bit more - I wonder if this is insurance in the case should Peavy be unable to continue and a starter is dealt. Never know. We have..... Peavy-Danks-Buehrle-Floyd-Jackson-Humber-Santiago and now Davis as back-up. We have 8 starters. Either Kenny is just stockpiling for next year when we lose Buehrle and Jackson, or he is planning on trading multiple starters in the next couple weeks.
July 15, 201114 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) or he is planning on trading multiple starters in the next couple weeks. If we have a bad showing over the next 2 weeks - I wouldn't write this off as an option.
July 16, 201114 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) Didn't Doug Davis beat some kind of cancer? Cancer of the thyroid.
