Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread

It's unbelievable that the Warriors continue to let Don Nelson run talented players out of there. -
Good e-mail Jason. Cowley can f*** off. All he's doing is turning off those whom he depends on to read his bulls***.
-
AJ will be the least of our problems. As long as he's productive he'll see plenty of at bats at catcher and DH. He's been nothing but an amazing team player since he joined the team and I don't expect that to change.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) This is just pure blasphemy. Superunknown is an amazing album, but it doesn't top Ten. And Badmotorfinger and Down on the Upside are solid albums, but don't come close to Vs. (which is in and of itself one of the best albums of the 90's), or Vitalogy. And personally, I think Yield and Riot Act are awesome albums themselves. Certainly Pearl Jam has gone off the reservation a bit, but they have forgotten more amazing music than Soundgarden has ever made... Arguing opinion is just nuts. Yeah, Pearl Jam has released tons of music, but you couldn't put together a Greatest Hits album for them that could touch Superunknown or Down on the Upside in my mind. There's something about my brain that tells me Chris Cornell is amazing, and Soundgarden was the pique of his greatness. (Again, in my mind). I'd rather slit my wrist than listen to Pearl Jam... people have differing opinions on many things in the world, and music certainly is not exempt. As far as the Soxtalk 50 Favorite Rock Acts is concerned, however, Soundgarden is > Pearl Jam, and I agree.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) I would have said the Bobcats before they made the Jackson trade. I'd say he goes to Europe or retires. He's done in the NBA IMO. As long as he refuses to take a 25-30 mpg role off the bench, I'd have to agree. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 12:59 AM) They're probably going to be 19 year contracts. I was thinking the same thing. They are going to sign triplet 12 year deals. I'm serious, that's a serious guess!

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) thanks steve, unfortunately the internet here makes those streams look like photo slideshows with choppy sound. That sucks bro.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) Ravens D isn't that good this year to be honest. They have the same misconception about themselves that the Bears have, that is, people outside of the fanbase assume they're good because they've been over the past several years, when there's actually been a steep dropoff this year. They looked good because they were playing the Browns. They are still a pretty damn solid defense... At least top 10.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) Soundgarden beats Pearl Jam? Ok, that's just wrong. Maybe I should have voted. Next time don't run these when I'm handing in my thesis! A few albums of greatness > 90 albums of s***. I f***ing love Soundgarden.
-
I heart Soundgarden.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) Anybody here see Gonzalez play when he was with Kane County? Jeez, he was awesome even then. He was probably only 19. I still have a bat of his signed in my basement from those days.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) Are you sure about that? His OPS/OPS+ in both years in the AL are lower than they were the 3 previous seasons in FL. Look to OPS+.
-
Come on guys. Miguel Cabrera's OPS at home has actually been much higher than on the road. Sure, Comerica isn't a hitter's paradise, but comparing it to Petco is a f***ing joke.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) At least a pretty deserving guy got it. Meh. It's 83 innings. Andrew Bailey pitched 83 innings as the closer on a last f***ing place team. Talk about pressure! Porcello pitched 170 innings for a team that made it to a one-game playoff. Beckham played 927 innings out of position and was the most-respected among players.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Adrian has had only one OPS+ over 150 which was last year. Miggy has done that 3 times before he turned 25 and just had a 142 OPS+ last year adjusting to the AL (which will probably continue to go up this comming season and is a year younger). I love Adrian but saying he's "better" than Miguel Cabrera is utterly stupid. Sure you can say they are "close" or even Miggy is "slightly better" but don't bring that hyperbole in this thread. That's all I'm saying. I believe I said one could argue that he's better, and that he's a top 5 hitter in the league.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) He carried SD too right to the bottom of the heap. One player isn't going to make our trip to the promise land especially if you trade away your prospects or top of the line pitchers Sure, but we'd be combining him with a solid crop of players here.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) I've seen the numbers more than a few times, unfortunately it's rarely as simple as you're making it seem. You said Adrian would have more of an impact than Miguel Cabrera, I don't see how you could possibly say that with such confidence when Cabrera had accomplished substantially more in his career when dealt than Adrian has now. I'm convinced Gonzalez could hit 50+ homers with a .400 OBP. The rarity of a player of this ability is stunning. No White Sox player has EVER hit 50 bombs, let alone with a .400 OBP.
-
Boers just accused Gonzalez of being a roider.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) I'm working on a permutation of this deal that sends GMJ to us...while we lessen the financial costs of that by sending out Gavin to SD and keeping a few prospects. Not that I want that to be the case but in my opinion LAA would be the hesitant party in the original deal. Pauly + Gavin > Gonzo, imo.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) you're jumping to some major conclusions here. It's what I do! Honestly, though, his road numbers are staggering. Yes, I am extrapolating road numbers, but it's quite obvious that Petco was killing him. His road OPS the last four seasons. 1.045 (27) .946 (26) .928 (25) .905 (24) Each of these years his home OPS was around .150 lower than his road OPS. Going from a hitter's nightmare to a hitter's paradise (we all know these two parks could not be more polar opposites) I have no problem comparing him head to head with Miggy, and given the differences (where you could expect Gonzo to park 50, easily - and he hits left-handed), I'd prefer Gonzalez.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Does anyone think Peavy can be of any influence to sell Agon on coming here? I know he does not have a NTC but just askin. That really doesn't matter. He needs not sell anything to a guy who has no say. Obviously the Sox still being willing to do the Peavy trade even when he was injured, thus helping the Padres out of a huge jam certainly will go into play. Their front office had nothing but nice things to say about the Sox throughout the entire process... the relationship is good. I don't think the Red Sox can offer as much as we can. The White Sox have a nice crop of youth they could send. Hell, we're basically using the San Diego Padres as our AAA affiliate for the 2nd time in franchise history. The PCL San Diego Padres were our AAA Affiliate in 1960 and 1961.

By the way, Gage, you have Gonzalez's age incorrect in your analysis section. He's 27, turning 28 in May.
-
Adrian Gonzalez turns 28 at the beginning of this season. He is peaking (as am I, given the thought of Gonzalez in the Cell). His road numbers over 162 games last season would net .306, .402, 55, 126. That takes into account s***ty stadiums he hits in as well on the road. Honestly, hitting behind Beckham and in front of (insert bum here), he could flirt with 60 homers with US Cellular Field as his home. He is an unreal talent... one of the top 5 hitters in baseball. He's more impactful than the great Miguel Cabrera, whom we slightly missed out on. I don't believe the rumor, but I'd love for it to happen. Anyone not on the MLB 25 man roster can be had in my opinion. Hold onto T-Flow, but feel free to deal any of the others.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) How much do you want to bet Bernstein turns his nose up at this trade rumor Well, he really should...

670 just teased with the "Latest on a Blockbuster White Sox trade" after the break, which is ending in about 1 minute. I presume they will source "Soxnet.net".
