  1. The more Beckham talks the more he sounds like a head case.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:23 PM) And I reiterate, I don't think Molina belongs anywhere near the big leagues this year. That's a ridiculous statement.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) I can't believe people thought AJ wouldn't be a horrible mentor. shocker
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) Don't forget Keith Foulke, Bobby Howry and Mike Caruso. They came from SF in the Alvarez trade. I think the Sox got their money's worth for Bobby Bonilla especially considering he was a rule 5 pick up by none other than Hawk Harrelson. Was that his best move?
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 10:14 AM) As biased as a person could be, I will say it was better than Wrigley. The underneath was similar in that you came up to the field and it just exploded in front of you. All you saw was green. The place looking huge as well. The bigger difference in the two is the size of the place. Wrigley's concourses and are cramped and while Comiskey was larger and allowed for room to walk. Also Comiskey smelled of beer and food. The concourse of Comiskey allowed you to walk around the entire underneath of the stadium. It just seemed large compared to Wrigely. I visited both often when I was young and Wrigley seemed small with the buildings behind it and tucked in the neighborhood. You saw the lights of Comiskey as you drove in whether on the Ryan or the Stevenson. It was the Baseball Palace of the World. Well put. That was the first stadium I ever went to in my life and the first time I went there my seats were in the upper deck above 3B. I just remember that first glimpse and how it kind of took your breath away. And that scoreboard...so wild.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 07:04 AM) I think if the season was played out 100 times, the Sox might win the division in 2 or 3 of them, tops. Being honest, I see the Sox as something like 15-20 games worse than the Tigers. Sure things could happen to change that number, such as Verlander's arm falling off, or Cabrera taking Prince out for a season of drinking, but in general, I have zero expectations for this team this year. There are scenarios where the Sox could win, but I don't find them very likely at all. Even in the scenarios where the Tigers fall backwards hard, I'm not sure if the Sox have enough to catch them. He's pitched a helluva lot of innings the last 3 years. Most in '09, 3rd in '10 and most again last year. Then again, he only got better! Fister threw 200 for the first time last year, though. Verducci rule?
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) Funny that you're not sold on Fister because he had a terrific half season when that's all Jimenez has ever had in his career. Good point. But I don't think I said I was sold on Jimenez either.
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) The Central is gonna be a joke outside of Detroit next season.... Why? If Jimenez pitches like an ace I think the Indians will give them a run for their money the entire way. Fister is a ground ball pitcher who had a terrific half-season. Not sold on that guy at all. Lets see how he likes having miggy butchering 3B behind him. And take a look at the prince's numbers outside of milwaukee. He's also getting ready to see a lot more breaking s*** than he saw in the NL. And Valverde? No way he repeats that performance. They had their shot last year, blew it as usual. f*** Detroit.
  9. I'm officially tired of the dire predictions. ST hasn't even started. Saw a round table on MLB network and to a man they see the sox finishing dead last. Detroit commentators are talking about winning the division by 20 games. GMAFB.
  10. QUOTE (MAX @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 10:35 PM) Is there something in that post above mine? I see a lot of blank posts here like that. Are they images or what? you don't see the picture? It's wild. Here, let me try and post it:
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 06:31 AM) Obviously he committed the error in honor of Jose manos de piedra
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) As a guy who is usually an optimist, I just can't be very optimistic about this team. I'm optimistic, but unlike other years, if this team takes a dump from the get-go then I'll concede to the cynics. There's still a good chance that those players you listed have good seasons. And while I'm not holding my breath, I could see Danks and Peavy being a solid 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation. Tank steps up, De Aza provides a spark, Robin speaks English...good things could happen.
  13. add to this Hawk's contention that when they broke camp last year he told his wife "we've got problems" and it makes me wonder why i ever listen/believe these guys when they talk about the upcoming season.
  14. Just another interesting story with a twist that makes baseball so fun to follow.
  15. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) Nothing against Paulie because he's a rock and the elder statesman but I never understood how he "leads." He never seems to talk. Somebody like AJ or Buehrle I could TOTALLY see as a "leader," unless I'm completely crazy. Am I? You mean like Jeter? He's always up in other players faces, always making bold statements in the press, always speaking out. Or maybe he leads by example, by how he goes about his business and preparation with results that speak for themselves. Or how he is in the clutch (yes, I did use that word sabertards). It's easy to take shots at Paulie -- his lack of speed, his limited range at first. But for the life of me I don't understand how Sox fans, who watch him day after day, would want to take a shot at him. Or his "skills." (and I'm not suggesting you are taking a shot at him, LV)
  16. Best thing I've read so far from Beckham...
  17. I'll be at that Cubs game. Can't get here soon enough
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) jaysonst Jayson Stark Jim Leyland leaves no doubt about Tigers' plans. "Miguel Cabrera is going to play third base." Spoke w Cabrera & "he's 100 pct onboard." Well that's good news. Miggy was terrible at 3rd. Finally, a bright spot...
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) I am truly afraid of these as throwbacks: http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4234826 Bite your tongue. I saved up months of allowance and paperboy money to buy one for about $50 back in the day.
  20. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) For the sunday games. I think its a pretty cool idea.. hell.yes.
  21. I just like that Robo is already being second guessed and ST hasn't even started.
  22. need somebody to play after the 3rd inning. seriously though, if you had to pick one name out of the list who would be the surprise to make the 25 man roster?
  23. wow, huge blow. What a clutch hitter he was last season with RISP.
  24. FWIW... I was in Bakersfield, CA last weekend visiting with family, nephew who plays baseball is coached by Brent Morel's old hitting coach. Morel was also in town promoting his charity. Long story short, got the chance to chat with the old coach, told him I'm a Sox fan and he said we're in for a surprise this year, that what we saw in September was what we can expect to see next season. Says Morel is the smartest player he's ever worked with and that he's made the adjustment to the majors and has been working his ass off during the off-season. Again, take it for what it's worth. But it was encouraging to hear.
  25. Just booked tix for Sox vs. Cubs and Sox vs. Rangers. And Cubs vs. Dodgers (traveling with a damn cub fan).
