QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 06:07 PM) Yeah we know he is fat, ugly and smells, but how is he pitching? he's actually pitching real well but how long before that changes? I say 2 months, tops

Super Official 2011 White Sox predictions thread
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 07:20 AM) Gordon Beckham is named 2011 ALL-STAR starter Does Cano go down with an injury? I agree though, I think Gordon's going to have a big year.

Your 2011 starting 3B is...
the problem is that Lilli gives him even more flexibility. He can play the infield, he's hit well this spring, and he's got the speed to match Lastings. And he keeps his helmet on after a home run. But yeah, I'd rather see Lastings for sure.

I like JP, his enthusiasm, his determination, his tenacity on the mound, but frankly this guy is a mess.

THIS DATE IN SOX HISTORY: March 21
That injury was one of the nastiest I've ever seen in sports. Remember his reaction when he slid into home and his foot was pointing the wrong way? Made my stomach lurch. Couldn't believe he got back so fast.

Pitching Depth
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) Garland was drafted by the Cubs and traded to us pretty young. That's right, forgot about that. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) 7-10 starting pitchers out of a single system in 10 years covers most of that team's needs for starting pitching. That sounds ideal, for sure, but to me that seems more like a mid-market and below strategy for cost control. I wouldn't want the average to above average rotation of the Twins just to be competitive for a division title but not strong enough to go deep into the playoffs. This is not to say that I too would love to see more homegrown pitching talent. Same w/every other team. 1-2 guys in your rotation that came from within seems like a reasonable amount to me.

Pitching Depth
help me out -- in the last 10 years, who's been in our starting rotation that was drafted by the team and came up thru the farm system? And I'm talking legit starters, not those who spot started but those who contributed serious innings pitched. Baldwin, Sirotka, Parque, Biddle, Buehrle, Garland and Richard...am I forgetting someone? That doesn't seem like too many, and certainly not recently. Sox seem to do a decent job with trades for starting pitching, developing other people's talent. Why the fear of imminent disaster? Tsunami fatigue?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) Kid named "Belt" just went deep, 2-1 Giants. Can't tell who's pitching, #60. Gray? some guy who used to pitch for the Cubs. Anyone know if this Eldred on the Giants is related to Cal at all?

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) The word project barely begins to describe Shane Lindsay. He's had 24.2 innings at AAA. He's walked 33 in that time. For him to become an effective MLB pitcher, he has to cut his career walk rate approximately in half. Perhaps there is something there, but you aren't going to see it until next year at the very earliest, and that will likely be with a different organization. he looked really strong in a B game I watched the other day, mowing down Valbuena and Santana from the Indians. That guy's FB has some hop on it.

ST: 3/14 vs Padres
Just got back from 3 days in Glendale and witnessed 4 pickoffs courtesy of Omar, Lillibridge, Gordo and JP. Just total brain farts on the base paths. Hope they clean this s*** up because it gets so old. Q looked lost at the plate until yesterday and Dunn and Kong are rounding into form. If Danks can get the walks under control he looks awesome. Good times.

Going to Spring Training
QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 07:56 AM) YOu should be able to easily buy tickets at the park, and avoid all the ticketmaster charges. YOu can view the schedule and buy tickets at the sox website. If you go next weekend, and you are a blackhawks fan, you can see them play the COyotes. That is what I'm doing. If you go to see the Hawks, or not, the area outside jobing.com arena is a whole entertainment and shopping area. This is also in Glendale, about 5 minutes from Camelback Ranch. Here is a link to that:Westgate City Center That's where I stay as well. There's a Mexican restaurant at the entrance to the whole place that is freakin awesome. Otherwise there are some good restaurants a little north as well in Peoria.

Going to Spring Training
QUOTE (Soxguy @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 07:02 AM) My wife and I are thinking about driving the 5 hours to watch some spring training. We are thinking about going for a weekend, leaving Friday night and coming back Sunday night. I figure we could catch games Saturday and Sunday. I was just wondering what else is there to do besides the actual games (baseball related or not) and if anyone can offer any tips for going? We are not even sure where to buy tickets or how much they cost. I've never been to any spring training so anything you can offer is appreciated! I'm heading over Friday as well and have 2 extra tix for the Sox vs Cubs in Glendale. Let me know if you want them and I can send you my cell #. They're good seats, infield box sec 115, $30 each. But you might find even better online still, like I did. Have fun, I'm psyched!
