I think this thread has been misinterpreted as a Thome bashing. Not intended that way at all. No one else shocked when they saw Fields had more hits than Thome?

Went to change my avatar and the upload failed. Can I get some help. Would like to use this picture... http://blogs.abcnews.com/photos/uncategori...081002_main.jpg Thanks!

QUOTE (qwerty @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 12:22 AM) Thome and dye were both in the top ten in ops, iso, wOBA, not to mention about 20+ other offensive categories that truly matter. Are you seriously try and tell me that konerko, iguchi, crede, and pierzynski were in anyway more valuable than thome? Comparing those guys to Fields and how poorly he has played doesn't give that stat justice. Those guys were all solid players. I never said Thome isn't valuable, just that I was suprised and think he could step it up a little bit.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) What was it that you added? Nobody has ever said move Beckham this year. Every single post says "for the future" and they are all correct. My "addition" was that there is no point in arguing over something that doesn't exist (in this case, that Beckham should be moved NOW). Understand now? The very first post talks about moving him around this season! It contemplates messing with the hot lineup and that connotes changing things in the middle of the year. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) We moved Alexei around a lot last year, despite his youth at a ton of positions generally excluding the one he's used to. Why would this necessarily not allow gordon to "settle in"? Beckham is five years younger than Alexei. And that's with Alexei's "reported" age. We moved him from CF to 2B which are vastly different, which almost allows for an easier adjustment. His outfield knowledge is thrown out and he learns 2B. And he reportedly played all over the place in Cuba. Beckham has been a shortstop for a long time. I just don't understand the urge to move him around. Let alone that I feel that Getz's lows are much easier to deal with than Fields' lows.
-
Does anyone honestly think they would move Beckham in his rookie season, when he's already out of position, to another position that he's not used to. To me any discussion of Beckham moving from third base comes next season in spring training. We have Getz and Nix to play 2B this season and Fields had his shot for this year and didn't come through. I think for the rest of the season Beckham will stay and the left side of the infield and the other young guys who a have some experience at different positions will be moved around. Its funny how people think we brought Beckham up too early, but aren't afraid to put him in any position. I know he's god-like, but let the kid settle in

Do we want a pitcher that is hurt? Do we want a pitcher that doesn't want to pitch for us? Do we want a pitcher that has never pitched for an AL team? Because Peavy is all three of those. I would have liked the trade initially if he hadn't turned us down, but I lost a little respect for him. Now that he's hurt for an extended and uncertain amount of time, no thank you.

Why this team COULD NOT and now WILL make playoffs

QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) Dude, its too easy to see them beat up on some weak teams and be like PLAY0FFZ!!1! Ide like to wait to see if they can keep it up and show some consistency before I get my hopes up.. Yeah those Dodgers sure are pathetic. I'm sure they play worse with a DH too. -
All I can think when I see this thread title is, "DUH, why wouldn't they?"

Would you believe me if I said Josh Fields has more hits than Jim Thome? Well he does. 47 to 45. I'd like to see Big Jim pick it up a little bit. He's seems even more all-or-nothing as of late (granted the interleague break didn't help him). His power and on-base percentage numbers are still there though, 13 HR, 42 RBI, .492 SLG and .397 OBP with 49 walks. I've got faith in him, just was shocked by the number of hits when I was looking through team hitting stats, more K's (62) than hits (45).

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:24 PM) Anybody counting on anything from Podsednik beyond this year is foolish. I think even the front office knows that. I could still see him being brought back, but they better have a good alternative in mind if they do. Also, this team is starting to turn into something fun. I'm happy. And Gavin Floyd's ERA down to 4.12, and I was never worried. Gavin's good. There's a difference between riding out the season with Pods and hoping for him to carry the team into the future. I'm just saying he should not be traded. The same people who say we shouldn't count on Pods next year were the ones laughing when we signed him to a minor league contract. Truth is we don't know and I wish some people would admit that more often.

QUOTE (BurlyMan56 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 11:18 PM) Lately, it seems there are more Future Sox fans on this site than White Sox fans. Definitely

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:18 PM) And that's why we post on message boards while significantly more knowledgeable people make actual baseball decisions. And this has bothered me with this site all year. Everyone wants to be their own GM and sometimes I wonder where the fandom went. We got people suggesting trading Pods and Dye who are the only reason this team has any life, and we might as well be paying Pods by the hour with the cheap salary we got him at. Too much panicking and not enough optimism. Hard to talk baseball when everyone wants to talk about where players should be traded and who we are going to get. The majority of "prospects" stay just that, prospects. You would think that trading for prospects guarantee wins in the future the way some people talk around here. Can we relax and enjoy some baseball please? Go Sox!

If Pods gets recalled, will Fields change his #?

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) There is no contending team in the majors that should voluntarily make him their full-time starting LF/CF. He's mediocre defensively, gets bad jumps on the bases, and is too one-dimensional at the plate. Ya I mean 4-5 with two singles, a double, and a HR is pretty one-dimensional. He was more one dimensional when he was an All-Star. He's hitting with some power right now. He needs to stop sliding through second base on steals, but he could bat leadoff for ANY team in MLB right now. Are you watching footage from 2007 or something? -
SCOTTY PODS!!!! GORDON BECKHAM!!!!

Thought this was worth sharing. Definitely a good laugh. So the Cubs beat us once at their place. Big Deal

Nice to see a backup catcher producing for us. Been awhile. Way to go Castro

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 12:00 PM) I say make a deal to give Beckham positional security. And I want him at 2B, so open 2B up and keep him there. Either play Fields at 3B or trade the guy and acquire a veteran. What the Sox are doing right now is probably not good for anyone involved. Do you really think Beckham is expecting positional security? He's a rookie for crying out loud. Sure he wants to play, but any real ball player knows that they have to earn it and nothing is going to be handed to him. I don't think this will mess with Beckham's head at all. He knows what he's here for. Force the other players to play better or he's going to be taking their spot. Simple as that. And if Fields and Getz can't handle competition we don't want them in the lineup.

Jenks was trying to throw at, but not hit Kinsler

Good to hear Bobby has his teammates' backs. Though he might get in trouble with MLB for saying that. Maybe this will spark the Sox hitters up a little bit -

f***ing bullpen -
This is cool. My dad was actually the high school football coach while Thornton was there. He said he tried so much to get him to play football, but his parents were leary of it. I guess he used to work out with the football team because thier baseball coach didn't agree with lifting weights.

Draft starts in twenty minutes. I'm the only one in there right now.

Wilson Betemit earning some attention?
ObamaKnowsBest replied to ObamaKnowsBest's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Playing the outfield, let alone centerfield ss a complete monster on its own and would be an extremely difficult transition for one of those guys to make. Judging fly balls and having those built in insticts that an outfielder requires take a long time to learn, let alone centerfield, the captain of the outfield. A lot more than speed goes into it. Look at Anderson, he's no burner on the basepaths, but an excellent defender in center. Granted they could have this abilities and we just don't know about them, but I think the moves would have been made by this time if it was that simple. -
Wilson Betemit earning some attention?
ObamaKnowsBest replied to ObamaKnowsBest's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) Betemit can really help our team, as long as he never has to bat right-handed. Left-handed? Very good. Right-handed? Brutal. So is it safe to assume that these numbers and alll the homeruns have come as a righty? -
In my opinion Betemit is having arguably the best spring out of anyone on the roster. Right now he's sitting at the utility spot, but when do we make room for him in the lineup? How much time do you think we'll see him playing? Fields is having a heck of spring training and I'm all for giving him the 3B spot. Do we see if Betemit can play some 2B? I think its hard to ignore the performance he's putting together. Does this make him or one of the younger infielders trade bait now? What do you guys see in his future? I know it's only ST but 6 HRs, 16 RBI, .341 AVG and .408 OBP is pretty darn impressive
-
why not just join league four. We're sitting at seven members
