Asked Tuesday about his former Seattle teammate, Sox catcher Chris Widger cranked up the karma theory once more. "I know how good he is, I know what he can bring to a team, I know how he can play center field, I know what he can do as a left-handed hitter and he puts a huge threat in the middle of your lineup no matter what team he's on," Widger said. "On the other hand, seriously, when you weigh that against what makes us tick and what makes this team work, it's a tough thing to do. This team is built on team chemistry, it's built on 25 guys playing together, it's built on playing a different kind of baseball than just playing for the home run. WE'RE PROUD TO PLAY FOR THE POPUP WITH RISP. "I love the guys in this locker room. For him to come over here and take a spot away from one of the guys who have been such a big part of this team — to take away an Aaron Rowand's spot, or a Carl Everett's spot, to watch those guys lose their jobs after what they've done for this team this year — you don't know what that's going to do to your team. YEAH, WE MAY EVEN WIN A GAME, AND FIGURE OUT HOW TO WIN AT HOME. You don't know if that's going to pull you apart, because all of a sudden you're looking at a good friend and a teammate and a great person who now has to sit the bench because you bring over that first ballot Hall of Famer. He may be a better player, he may be a better offensive player, he may play better defensively. But, what does that do to the overall scheme of your team? I don't know."

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) We've gone all year without going into an extended funk. I'd rather it happen now than in, say, 7 weeks or so from now. Exactly. I hope that we can get this behind us in a week and be well-positioned for the stretch run and October.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) Make that, at least two of.... My wet dream is for us to face the Injuns in the ALCS. How are we even going to get that far? I'm just curious how we believe the Sox will beat the A's, Angels, Red Sox or Yankees in the first round? [Disclaimer: I have been a Sox fan since 1967, I am not jumping off the bandwagon, I will always be a Sox fan, I realize the Sox have the best record in baseball (at least today), the sky is not falling, all rights reserved, copyright 2005, no purchase necessary, need not be present to win, one entry per family, see dealer for details, opinions subject to change without notice]

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) Some part of me also doesn't really care whether or not we get home field...simply because we've been the best road team in the big leagues this year. I agree.

White Sox vs Red Sox - 8/13/05

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) Buehrle is not an ace in the classic sense of the word. He is, however, a very solid proven major league pitcher that any non-insane ML GM would love to have on his team. Mark Buehrle is an asset and I'm damn glad he's on the White Sox. I couldn't agree more. But, I have to admit my favorite Sox player is beginning to concern me a bit. He had a history of pitching well against the top teams. Not sure that is the case anymore. -
We need a proven clutch hitter who isn't an all or nothing like borchard. Burnitz isn't the guy. He strikes out a ton of times--we know how to do that. Maybe Walker--but, another infielder? Unproven minor leaguers don't interest me. What's wrong with Griffey as DH?

Wow. What a great day. Nothing better than beating the Yankees...except maybe the Red Sox...Like to shut them up this weekend and then shut up the Twins. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) Wow. I'm impressed. I'd like to know what other cards are out there that I don't have. More than 200 different cards? I've bought every one I ever ran across. I have a 1991 Topps Fisk All Star and a 1989 Topps Fisk. You want them? I can drop them in the mail. -
QUOTE(MinnySoxFan @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:18 AM) Just an FYI - I believe that today is the last day to vote. I should find out tomorrow evening if I made it or not and will give you all an update. Thanks for the help. Go Sox! I banged it some more. Hope you do it!

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) I am sick of getting myself worked up. I want to hear the news that the White Sox have made a trade. This really is uncalled for, because they have the best record in baseball. However, it is impossible to not get worked up and excited. Every morning when I wake up, I rush to the ESPN.com main page to see if there have been any deals. Then, I come to soxtalk, for what I am absolutely sure will be information of a new signing. I get in the car, turn on the Score or ESPN Radio, expecting to hear Bruce Levine tell me that Aubrey Huff is rolling up to the Cell in a '96 Prelude, ready to add that bat to our lineup. KW has been so amazing with his deals, that as a White Sox fan we are pretty lucky to be this excited. Of course, other teams are content, which makes us seem kind of needy. However, the exciting prospect of possibly getting Ken Griffey, Jr, or AJ Burnett, just makes me want to cream myself. For what its worth, I love this team, and would not be offended if we went for the stretch run as-is. I must say that I do feel we need a bat more than a pitcher, and a tiny addition like Omar Vizquel would go a long way to turning our lineup around. I may be going crazy, and July 31st can't come soon enough. Couple this with the fact that (non hockey fans ignore the next part) the NHL free agency period begins on August 1st, and I just might not make it through the weekend. As Hawk would say, I'm sure, "I love trade deadlines." I hear you. The trade talk is fun, but it gets to you after a while, especially with no activity. At least we're in a good position, where a deal isn't mandatory.

Done and good luck!! Talk some Sox on the show.
-
Is Kenny gonna make a deal or what? Time is running out...He needs to make something happen. It's quiet all over the league.
-
They don't have anything locked up yet. There will be plenty of time to talk about playoff matchups when (if?) the time comes. And, I could never, ever root for the Twins. I have a serious dislike for that team, its stadium and the fans.
-
I think the boys need a little shake up, like a trade for a new bat in the lineup. Even so, if Iguchi and Gload make plays today, we win and everybody's happy.
-
I was very, very impressed with him. First time I've seen him and he was breaking off those pitches. Even as he tired, he battled.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) When the Sox return home, they should do a "turn back the clock to 2001-2004" promotion night for the fans to commemorate the team's recent play: only scoring off HRs, costly errors, lack of execution, bad baserunning, etc. -
