QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) As (I think) being the lone USC fan here, I will say that obviously I'm disappointed. I love Pete. I love everything he has done for that program. He's a great guy and very well liked by the SC fans. Then again, I can't blame him. IIRC, he just got a $3m per year raise, and he's going to a new challenge. What more can he accomplish at USC? From 2001 until now, he's won 97 games, 7 P10 titles, 1 BCS national title, has had 2 Heisman winners, and has went 7-2 in bowl games. I hope he succeeds like hell up in Seattle. LOL. Just because you're a "fan" doesn't mean you have to be so blind. First, he's leaving because the hammer is about to drop at USC due to his and the school's shenanigans, not because there isn't any more to accomplish at USC. He had it made there and doesn't really need a little extra money. If he wanted a raise he would have left a long time ago. He's also done the NFL thing before, so this isn't really a completely new challenge. He became a stud at USC not because of his X's and O's, but his recruiting. You don't recruit in the NFL. It will be much harder for him to have success in the NFL with much of it being out of his hands. He might be jumping off USC before it really starts heading south. In which case, smart career move. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) He couldn't have come in in any capacity at all? Even run an option or a shovel pass? Nothing? Hell, even a decoy. I know if I was a player on Texas, I'd still feel a bit slighted. And I know for a fact that there are at least a few guys on that team who aren't the biggest McCoy fans right now. It's going to be annoying listening to people suck his dick for a while. LOL, what the hell does that accomplish? Unbelievable. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 08:38 AM) Alabama was running an ultra conservative offense in the 3rd quarter because Texas couldn't move the ball. Alabama was running an ultra conservative defense in the 3rd quarter because Texas couldn't move the ball. As soon as Texas scored a touchdown -you saw Alabama become more aggressive with their playcalls offensively, and they started to move the ball offensively, though it ended in a punt (obviously after the Texas onside kick) -you saw Alabama's defense becoming much more aggressive while blitzing more. Gilbert picked up said blitzes on his first drive, and moved down the field, and then got a touchdown on one of the few misplays the Bama backers made all night (one big one being the 3rd and 12 or something deep in Texas territory where Shipley was wide, wide open and Gilbert overthrew him); he didn't fare so well after the 2nd touchdown. McCoy participating would have made this game closeR, but Bama played this game close to the vest the entire second half. They were up 3 scores, Texas couldn't move the ball, and they can run the ball; they didn't run it well in the second half, but ran it well enough to eat quite a bit of clock. Gilbert's not that good, but I don't think having McCoy in this game would have made much of a difference. It's not like McCoy plays linebacker and safety, and the Texas defense wasn't stopping the Bama rushing attack when they were actually running a bit of play action here and there. Bama ran the Wildcat like 2-3 times, and Texas couldn't stop that; Texas really couldn't stop runs to the outside; Texas couldn't hold runs up the middle (from Ingram) to less than 2-4 yards. Texas had absolutely no shot in this game. Bama rolled, and would have rolled if McCoy was in. Texas had the ball late down 3 with a chance to tie or win. Not sure how much "closer" McCoy would have made that - if McCoy is in, is that the end of game situation? If Alabama was that good they would have put them away and not let them have a chance to tie or win late. No way they should have been in that position and been back in the game. If they are as good as they think they should have been able to blow the doors off them. Alabama essentially won by 3 points (one last failed possession by Texas), that's not really rolling. Again, Texas also outgained them. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 03:26 AM) You're freaking delirious. It was a brilliant call and the only reason it was intercepted was because the punter underthrew him by a mile. If he gets the ball to him, he's got a first down and more, possibly WAY more. If they've practiced it before and they knew the punter could make the throw, then I still think its brilliant. If not, then it's utterly idiotic. You make it seem as if the guy made an easy interception. He still had to jump backwards to make it. Again, it's the punter throwing a pass. That's part of this whole thing. Punter's generally don't have rocket arms with amazing accuracy. It was a completely unnecessary risk that early. It was snuffed out pretty easily. If your defense is so good, and you're the better team (or at least not a huge underdog), you punt the ball from your own 20. Just moronic. -

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 12:56 AM) The reason why didnt leave because everyone and their mother knew he would be lucky to get into the 3rd round last year. This year, he'd be lucky to make it into the 2nd. Also, I didn't see one attempt of him on the sideline trying to throw a ball. Also, the x-ray was negative, his dad says it wasn't serious, and it was reported to be a mild sprain. You can play through a mild sprain. I guarantee the reason he did not come back into the game is because he thinks he can be a first round draft pick (he wont be), and an injury would only hurt his chances. He would have played if he could, end of story. He wanted to win a national championship and the only way to do so was if he was playing. The injury might not be structurally serious, but it was enough to knock him out of the game. What the hell would throwing a ball would have done besides satisfy you? QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 12:59 AM) Are you kidding me? If the punter makes a good throw, thats a first down and plus some. It was a good aggressive call on the most important game of most of those players lives. It was open, Texas wasnt ready... the punter just p**** armed the throw. That was a terrible, brutal, dumb call. 4th and 23 on your own 20 does not make for a good fake punt call that early in the game. Just stupid. This isn't a video game. "Most important game" makes it even more ridiculous. It wasn't open, a guy got over there right away, AND picked it. If anything, Texas baited them into it. You don't think they know the chance of a fake when not initially covering him right on the line? -

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 12:36 AM) McCoy seems like a good guy and all, but there is no doubt in my mind the only reason why he didn't come back was because of his NFL future. And yeah, that is the smart move in the long run, but I still feel he completely abandoned his teammates. Plus, that clip of him chit chatting with VY and smiling and joking made me sick. Seriously, your team is about to lose the NC, and your joking around? Your not in the game, but your teammates still look towards you. And yeah, they reported he wanted to come back in but was recommended not to, but thats BS. Since the x-ray was negative, there was no medical reason that could prevent him from coming back. If he really, truly, wanted to come back in, there was nothing that could have stopped him. I would have at least liked to see him attempt to throw a pass on the sideline. Also, its a shame many of the lesser bowls were far more exciting than all of the BCS bowls. Best bowl game this season, Outback or GMAC? or other? Seriously? There's no way he doesn't go back into the game if is healthy enough to do so. It's the national championship game, kind of a big deal. If he was so concerned with the NFL, he would have left last year. I don't see how you can say nothing could have stopped him. If you can't feel your arm, kind of hard to throw a football. Just my guess. What do you want him to do, throw left handed? That would really help lead the team. I'm sure he loved watching his freshman QB and entire offense look like s***, not wanting to "risk it." Wow. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 11:09 PM) No doubt in my mind that Texas wins this game if McCoy stays healthy. McCoy really seems like a genuinely great person. Completely agree. I thought they'd win before the game, too. Thought McCoy would have a huge game. McCoy would have made McElroy win the game, and I don't think he would have been able to do it. Alabama hid behind the lead and a running game, against a freshman QB and no running game, and still barely won. QUOTE (T R U @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) Bama is prolly the best defense in the nation all things considered, I don't think you can assume McCoy would light it up against them had he played the whole game.. Texas also has a very good defense and Bama ran all over them, easily, its not really a surprise that their passing game looks terrible tonight they didnt need it at all.. Sure, the game goes different with Colt in there.. but Colt doesn't play defense and Bama ran the ball anyway they wanted to. I dont think the result is any different with Colt in there, I still think Bama would have won.. QUOTE (T R U @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 11:31 PM) Really? They rushed for like 230 yards on a very good Texas defense.. they didn't need to do anything on offense except give the ball to their two exceptional RBs due to the Texas offense not being able to do anything without Jesus McCoy.. If McCoy is in the game, the ENTIRE game is different for obvious reasons.. but due to the circumstances, Alabama really didn't need to do anything but be extremely boring on offense.. Anyways, I get what you are saying.. but still Texas defense has nothing to do with Colt McCoy, and Bama gashed them all night on the ground. That was impressive. McElroy and the passing game? You're right, fail. Like I said though, they didn't need it.. Uh...they ran for 205 yards...On 51 carries. Yes some of those were sacks. But I wouldn't say it was "running all over them, easily" nor "gashing them all night," really. Texas let up the one huge run, other than that they gave up about 4.4 yards a carry. They didn't throw the ball. Of course they had some yards on the ground. Alabama didn't do much on offense the entire night save one play. I don't think McCoy would have completely lit up a good defense, but I think he would have made Alabama do a lot more on offense than they showed. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 11:21 PM) Bama scored 17 points on offense on full drives. A pick 6, a drive started at the 3 (that still took 3 tries to get in) and a meaningless last minute TD that was also on a short field. It's easy to argue Bama would still win, but to be impressed with their offensive performance? No. I wouldn't call the 2nd to last touchdown a "full drive." And the FG started at the Texas 29. Hell even the TD run, that drive started at the 49. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 12:10 AM) Don't you think the injury to McCoy also throws Bama for a loop too? You've spent weeks preparing for something and a couple plays into the game, it means nothing. Obviously Gilbert isn't as talented, but it certainly had some effect on Alabama too. Throws them for a loop? "s***, there's a HS QB in the game now, I hope we can adjust." That was the loop. FTR, Texas had more total yards than Alabama. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 09:27 AM) Sooo.... When Bolland is ready to play, who do you sit down? I think most nights Kopecky and then you are back to having 4 true centers

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 07:41 AM) I dont know what you mean, but I was addressing the small packs of jokers in the 300 level that were chanting it Tuesday night. No all I meant was you titled it "Blackhawks Fans." No one who posts here and no actual Hawks fan starts a Detroit sucks chant at a non Detroit game. Your point is completely correct. The jokers you saw I assume are the same jokers I see trying to start the wave. I think I can call them Cubs fans without getting any grief around here. As an added bonus, also see "People who start a 'USA' or 'Canada sucks' chant while playing Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, etc."
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 06:44 AM) Dear Hawks Fans at the UC: Your team is now the #1 team in the league and a Stanley Cup favorite. Please dont try to start a "Detroit Sucks" chant at the end of a game vs. the Wild. First of all, Detroit wouldn't even qualify for the playoffs today. Second of all, all that matters now is getting a new banner with the Stanley Cup on it next to the one from 1961, not anything to do with the Wings. Thank you. While I agree with your point completely, you addressed the wrong group of people.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) They have been calling the United Center that since the Bulls won their first title while playing there. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) Crazy, I honestly had never heard that and I've lived here for 29 years. The Chicago Stadium was termed the Madhouse on Madison long before the United Center was built. It's pretty lame that they put that stuff up now, as the building has been a parking lot for about 15 years. -
There was no charge on the hit on Sharp, neither of Weaver's feet left the ice before the hit though at live speed you would think so. You can't blame Barker for doing what he did because again at live speed, that didn't look clean. He took at run at him. I looked at the Eager/Jackman tilt a few times and I think Eager bit Jackman, earning him the match penalty.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) Last year I believe CSN Chicago simulcast the Blackhawks games on VS in the playoffs, so I don't think that would be a worry for you. But with this latest dispute, I wouldn't think they'd be allowed to?
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) CON: No Hawks games on VS. Yeah I mentioned that in my first post, biggest con by far. Not only the Hawks, but all other games in the playoffs. I'm sure everyone that has it hopes it's hammered out in time for the playoffs - I have no idea the odds that happens. (only a few games left on versus this season). Otherwise it's time for alternate plans to see those games. I haven't seen an update in a while but the radio/paper is all over it the day after each Hawks game, so it's on the front burner in this city.

I'm not super familiar with Directv. Besides the obvious (in a dispute with Versus - any news on this), what are the pros and cons of directv? Mainly in regards to sports, weather issues, DVR, price, and HD service (and anything else you'd like to comment on). Thanks for your help.

Hawks power play essentially a -2. Seabrook with a bad read and Versteeg with a terrible decision and it's 2-0.

QUOTE (T R U @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Really? Ide say people who have it coming to them are more like murderers or rapists. There are plenty of people who have done one or multiple things that he has done, even on this board, do they all have death coming to them as well? And anyways, no one knows exactly what happened so to say he was trying to chase and attack her is just a biased opinion so far. May it be the case? Possibly. If it were though, how would she have even had time to get into the truck and drive away. Im pretty sure that if he had wanted to attack and injure her, it would have happened long before she had gotten into the truck and started to drive away. So just so im understanding this.. smoking weed, speeding, getting into fights, and drinking with underage people means you should prolly die? I better watch my back. Jumping into the back of a pickup truck and staying in there while she's speeding around, yeah I'd say he had it coming. A man of many stupid decisions and what 6 arrests? Not that surprising this happened the way it did... QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) He also has a really good vocabulary. That's fine. But he's not the messiah of sports radio show hosts. You know who's the s***? Lawrence Holmes. He's every bit as good, if not better than Bernstein, and he doesn't come off as if he walks on water. Bernstein's great. So is Holmes. Different guys, different personalities, both get the job done for me.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) Kinda like they did with Hossa, yet that was random luck. Yeah, that totally makes it different. Not sure if you are actually reading my posts or not, but alright. The goals are both sick, but about as different as you can get.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Your post was great until you brought up Bernstein. Dan Berstein is a tool in every sense of the word. He acts as if his s*** don't stink and if you dare disagree with him you're the retard of retards (don't even get me started on Boers). I wouldn't be referencing Dan Berstein in attempt to sell a particular point. His opinion means no more than some random bum on a street corner. A lot of people hate Bernstein...but that final thing I posted...it's pretty spot on. I wasn't trying to prove my earlier points with that portion of the post, however. Just something kind of interesting he pointed out. Bernstein acts like that because he is usually right and listens to idiots all day who have no basis for their argument or opinion. He invites them to prove their point, but they can't do it. Bernstein actually knows a ton about sports, Boers doesn't add nearly as much. You either like him/show or hate him/show...I like.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) Campbell is looking good as he is being put in spots to have success. The cost of Hawks game are only going to go up as well as that joint is packed and relatively small. Do you think they pipe in noise for the anthemn? I was in section 117 last night and it seemed like nobody was making noise. I gotta tell ya the 300 level is much better than the lower level when it comes to fans but they are paying the bills. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) No. The noise comes from the fans in the 300 level who care about the tradition of the team! Just kidding. They certainly don't pipe in noise though, your section probably just stunk in terms of fun folks. Nice seats, though. I don't think you have to be kidding. The 300 level is great for the anthem. 200 and 100, not so much. Just look around, easy to tell the difference. A lot of people look surprised as the anthem starts and people start clapping around them. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Easy. If one of the defenders, or the goalie moves into him, instead of standing still, the play is over. Yes he had a ton of skill to put those moves on, but Toews needed a bit of luck to ensure the chance at the goal, the same with Hossa. So what you are saying is Toews scored due to the "electric football" characteristics of a hockey game. Defenders generally don't stand still/play random defense. They tried to stop the puck carrier best they could, but they couldn't.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) Lol, yes, unintentionally. I thought Locker won the heisman. Oops! I do follow Illinos football, so ya know, i'm a retard. Fair enough. -
Steve got ripped because he dropped a "he gawn." That was a classless move, no doubt about it because it's like you were openly rooting for him to die. The guy has his issues, but I don't wish death upon him. But, Steve's right in that he did kind of have it coming to him, and he could have ended up killing that girl, who knows how it could have ended. Probably another arrest, at the least. Again, I wasn't rooting for him to die. I was hoping he would survive this and start to turn his life around - don't we all hope people turn their lives around? I will also say this. His kids are better off not having him as a father. Just because someone is your biological Dad doesn't make it great to have him around. A lot of kids are worse off for being with their fathers, and other kids are better off for being raised by someone else. I don't really see how that can be argued. Bernstein said it best at the end of the show. If you're a terrible person the best way to turn your life around...is to die. Then some people start feeling sad and saying great things about you.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Give the guy a break, Krush. Don't you remember the "President's Cup curse"? The basis of that really wasn't perfect, as enough have won to show it's kind of random. However, hockey is unique in the fact that a goaltender can get hot and completely take over a series. There's something to the point, though we can all hope that the top teams make it deep this year. Yes I know the President's Cup thing. But, my question was an honest one, not trying to start a fight. I seem to remember a bunch of wild card teams getting into and some winning the world series. I don't know how it compares to basketball because I don't follow it enough. Football seems to be a crapshoot sometimes too, though the top 2 teams get a bye. I'm of the belief that the teams who win in the Stanley Cup Playoffs really were/are the best teams, regardless of what seed they went in as. I know that might not make a lot of sense to other people, however, it's just a line of thinking. QUOTE (Sox72 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) I thought the sarcasm implied was fairly obvious. I'll be sure to make it more clear for you next time. Sarcasm or not, you could have come up with some reasoning that was a bit more legitimate, i.e. Steve's line of thinking.
