QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) If it worked, I say Weis got lucky and it was still an awful play call. If Tate was in there and that is where the pass was going to, I wouldn't say anything. He was the best player on the field til he got hurt. Michigan couldn't stop the run for crap. They gave up 6 yards per carry. Running the ball was the right decision if you want ND to win. Ball and clock management is part of trying to win the game. ND had the lead, it's not like it was tied. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) On NCAA 2003 for Nintendo Gamecube, virtual Lee Corso ridicules the piss out of you if you pass with the lead and the clock winding down in a close game. My 5 year old son (who worships Golden Tate) has learned never to do that, having been made fun of by "the Coach" and beaten in a last second come back by his old man. We actually talked about that as it was happening. I was astonished Mr. "Decided Schematic Advantage" hadn't learned that lesson before. In that situation, being stuffed at the line twice is infinitely better than throwing two incompletes or risking picks. Imo, its an absolute no-brainer, and Weis, who seems to want badly to be lauded as a genius, really out-thought himself there. You mean Floyd. I wouldn't think you should say it's OK if one guy is in the game but not OK if he's not. Tate is a very good player as well. I mean you are either against the pass there or you aren't. On 1st down Hughes, with Allen out, got stuffed. Doing that two more times doesn't accomplish much, I'd rather not give Michigan the ball back at all if possible. Well duh, being stuffed is better than two incompletes, no one will argue that, but you aren't guaranteed incompletes by throwing the ball. One way you are basically guaranteeing you give them the ball back, the other way you are risking more time on clock vs not giving them the ball back at all quite possibly. I can see coaches doing either, not just hanging it on Weis. FWIW, Herbstreit didn't have a problem with it either. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) HE'S-A-FRESH-MEN, CLAP CLAP CLAP-CLAP-CLAP! Brilliant coaching by Wies. Let's run the clock out by throwing 30 yard passes with 3 minutes left and watch them fall incomplete. We will be getting paid for 10 years while doing nothing. Easy to point out after the fact, since they lost. If it worked, you don't say anything. I have no problem with a team trying to end the game, not just run the ball to run the ball, with a backup RB and 9/10 in the box, single coverage on receivers, and a pass offense that has got it done all game. You complete one and the game is over. Running the ball just to run the ball and basically giving it back to the other team sucks and is playing not to lose. I'd rather try to win the game than not lose it. A lot of coaches would have done the exact same thing in that situation. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Nice quote, are you still not able to understand what he meant? its not really that hard to understand the concept of second chances. Yeah, but that's not what he said, regardless of what he meant. The quote was completely retarded, and he should get attention for saying what he said, and well, did. Good take I found: http://cfn.scout.com/2/896137.html -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) It was some of both. The 3rd and 4th INTs were all Cutler. I was only referring to the 4th there, why was the route stopped. All Cutler, no. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) Same people who call the Sox postgame talking about how in 2005 we bunted a lot so the answer to all of our problems is going to a slap and tickle offense. Grinderz. That's the best one, because it's false as they won games simply by hitting HRs. B and B tomorrow could be epic. -

Field Turf at Soldier Field?

Who is voting no? If Jay Cutler comes out and starts complaining, the push for field turf is going to gain strong some legs quickly. -

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) I hate how afraid U of I is to play ISU. They wouldn't have played us in football 3-4 years ago when we would have beat them and they won't play us in basketball the last 2-3 years because we would beat them. OK. Let's see here. In 2003, Illinois went 1-11. Our only win? Against ISU, who was beaten 49-22. I think that's about enough of that. Basketball? Good luck with that one, too. Make a tournament before you run your mouth. Enjoy your s*** school and your inferiority complex, and we all can't wait for more of your garbage in the bball thread. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Keep an eye on Eric Berry Nothing against Berry, but unless he has roughly 65 interceptions, he won't win.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) Pretty much. The ND/Cubs comparison is dead on, right down to the so called game experience. Well, no, it's really not the same kind of game experience at all.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Got a question for you guys... I just found I won the student lottery for Florida tickets, but I have to pay $70 and I only get 1 ticket (which pisses me off). Apparently, you have to request 2 tickets if you want two before they do the lottery, which isn't how it used to be in years past. Anyway, I wanted to sell the ticket b/c I need money and there's no point in likely watching us lose in Gainesville, so should I buy the single ticket and hope it sells? What are the odds someone will want a single ticket (cause I know most people will want 2 so they have someone to sit with)? If you want to "sing Rocky Top all night long" after the game with Lane, go. If you need the money, sell it. In all seriousness, have you been to the Swamp? If not, I'd go. It would be cool to see your team playing there regardless of outcome. If you have been there done that and really need the money, consider selling it. Someone should be a single somewhere, maybe a group of 2 now wants a group of 3, etc. Personally I think if you can swing the money aspect somehow, I'd go. That should be a great atmosphere and it's fun to see your team in enemy territory. -

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) I just hate Weis. He's a control-freak, jackass that can't handle criticism. A wannabe Belichick, but nowhere near as good of a coach. I like ND otherwise. When I went to my 1st ND game last Fall, I had a blast. Completely different atmosphere than an SEC game, but just as cool I thought. So much tradition there. Plus, Rudy is my favorite movie of all time, so that may help. I don't know if you are able to talk about coaches anymore

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) Harrison Barnes down to his top 6, but I think he's goin to Duke. Other schools are Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina and UCLA. With that list, you sure you didn't list a school by accident? -

Yeah, the run definitely counts. It's not a force out. Force outs only happen when a runner has to give up his base and is forced to attempt to advance to the next base because the batter has become a batter-runner. There's also such a thing as a 4th out appeal, which could come up in a similar play.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) You DID see who your team appointed head coach, right? I'm not a Meyer fan, but he is doing something right, destroying the rest of us in the East and winning when it counts. You can say that again. Lane Kiffin is proving to be a dbag early and often.
