Official 2010-2011 NCAA Football Thread
IlliniKrush replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Rock, you're thinking too short term. I think they looked at more of a history of the programs. Yeah Michigan isn't very good right now, but they will likely be back over the long haul. And if they aren't, who the heck cares about the Michigan/OSU protection thing anyways. Clearly by people worrying about that matchup, people think Michigan will get back to where they were, and soon. Otherwise that game turns irrelevant. You have traditional powers on each side (OSU/PSU, Mich/Neb) You have two middle/good guys (Wisc/Pur, Iowa/MSU) You have two...s***ty programs (ILL/IU, NU/Min) -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) Consider it done my man. And Girl and the Goat is f***ing ridiculous, you cant get in there even on a tuesday when its raining. That place is the hottest I've seen a restaurant in this area. Just went there, it was really good. Lots of interesting food, and the menu changes pretty often. Also a good beer selection. Vince Vaughn was there, so it must be quality B)

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) If anyone thinks Frank should be in the booth, they are out of there mind. He is involved with the Sox for name alone and for what he did. Maybe he'll get better, but as of now, he's absolutely terrible. Jason, "terrible" is putting it nicely. He's Hawk's little yes man. Have a thought about baseball, Frank - and one besides "this sucks."
-
Hawk is creeping towards dare I say, Ron Santo territory. He's just brutal now, makes excuses and b****es and moans all game, every game. He's not good at his job, which is to ADD to the game, that's the bottom line.

That place is the hottest I've seen a restaurant in this area. Looks like it might open up in October? My fiancee made a reservation there for next Wednesday...like three weeks ago. First decent time slot available.

Just saw this. This should be epic. Rock we'll have to grab a pint or 6 there.

Last night was as close as I've come to muting the TV during the game. Hawk is just unbearable, and it's even worse in big games. There's a huge difference between rooting for the team and being an outright, ignorant homer. Worse yet, there are plenty of fans that buy into his argument that one pitch or one call lost the game for the Sox. As the majority here realize, that wasn't the storyline last night. Since this has been the topic of conversation on the Score the past 30 minutes, I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this.

Damn, our little drunken Justin is growing up so fast.

How about this for an easy one. A few years ago I was at a Sox/Cubs game at Wrigley. Always fun to watch the idiot Cubs fans, especially after we had a recent WS win. Some guy had a picture of the Ozzie kissing his son photo with the caption "He Gay!" on it. I stopped him and said hey, nice shirt, and politely asked when that photo was taken. He was stunned, shamed, and walked away. Sometimes they just make it so easy. Anyways, I digress. At some point in the game a Sox hitter had a 2-0 count on him with runners on in a big spot. I said to my buddies something along the lines of "all right, good hitters count, drive a fastball here." Drunk Cubs fan in front of me tells me that 2-0 is not a good hitting count, that 3-1 is a good hitting count. I told him yes, 3-1 is a good hitting count, but 2-0 is a good hitting count as well. I told him the stats even bear this out, and to go look it up when he got home if he could figure out how to work a computer.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) With the demand Ladd apparently had, and a few D spots open in Chicago, I have a real hard time believing Stan and Co. didn't do their homework and made sure he isn't going anywhere. His play last season indicates he's not quite NHL ready.

Thank you Stan for getting rid of the exact 2 big pieces you should have.

Toughest trophy to win in sports
IlliniKrush replied to SoxFan1's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Hockey is one of the toughest if not the toughest because of the physical toll it takes on you, it's more demanding than any of the other competitions IMO. Up to 28 games of physical, injury-ridden hockey. The effort given and toll taken outweighs much of these other ones by miles. I don't really care so much about what the math says, number of teams in number of sport. If you want to simplify it that much there's no argument, just plug in the numbers I guess. But I didn't take this question as a probability question. -

Yeah that's what it seems like. NL team, getaway day tomorrow...not that surprising they will just wait this out. Going to be one of those late night, empty Sox games. I'm going to leave once it's safe to actually walk around in the city. This is crazy. -

Sirens going off again -
Aliu was in the ECHL at the end of the year. He was done with the Hawks organization and may be done in general. He's a complete head case. I'm not worried. Good to see nice value for Buff.

Tornado siren currently sounding in Chicago loop. -
Man, if they got a 1st and a decent prospect back for Buff that would be one of the greatest moves of the summer. Please sell on him.

HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 08:57 AM) You mean at a rally where people are tossing him beers and the team is forking over the cash for bottles of champagne? I've done a complete 180 on this topic... Kaner got drunk at a booze-filled celebration. Big deal. It's not like he pulled his pants down during his speech. The biggest thing isn't exactly what he did at the rally and whether it's acceptable or unacceptable. It's what he did at the rally, every day before and after the rally, and his previous problems and his group of friends. It's what all this could mean down the line. He's already had a big time incident, and he apologized and said he learned his lesson. Next time, a judge isn't going to be so forgiving. There is clearly cause for concern here. -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) Another reason why Niemi shouldn't be priority #1 this off-season. With guys like Nabakov, Turco, Marty Biron, Dan Ellis, Theodore, Mason, and Nittymaki, Hawks should be in no rush to give Niemi exactly what he is looking for. That's hardly a great list of goalies. Marty Turco? I'd take Nabokov as a starter, but other than that...um. Also trade Buff, not Sharp. His value's never going to be higher than this, and Sharp's easily the better player.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) Kaner kind of reminds me of Theo Fluery... Wow, I made the exact same comparison today. Kane's got issues. You would think he could keep it slightly together for this. Nope, has to be drunk every hour he's not on the ice. It was embarrassing, winning the Cup is no excuse for it. He just drank for the previous 24 hours. No one else was nearly that drunk. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) I was at the Sox one, get there real early. I got there 4 hours early I believe and was right in the front and it was well worth it. Oh ya, I'm going tomorrow as well since I'm going to be right around there anways. Give me a call. You going to be able to find it? Seems like you can only navigate Wrigleyville. We'll get in touch, my place is walking distance from the starting and rally point.
