  1. Brian, I know you're the only other one watching Parenthood, but good start to the farewell season thus far.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) JJ Watt is good everybody. Link?
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 09:21 PM) Yeah, I figured this wasn't going to be cheap in the least, I just picked up an extra $4 grand this year by teaching a third class so I'm set, but just trying to say "how much would you pay for this" and the appropriate garb if I don't own the full jersey. That's an impossible question for me to answer, I can't tell you what something is worth to you. A quick Stubhub search gave me about $150ish and up from there for downstairs behind the nets/in the corners. If you don't go to games often, just got that 4K, and considering the Hawks will only play there once a year...to me, that's a price I'd pay given your situation. Grab a clearance shirt on nhl.com or something so you have something, you don't have to drop hundreds on a jersey if you aren't going to wear it often.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) How is Gurley the joke? This won't affect his draft stock, he will still get paid and is now less likely to get injured. I guess everyone is trying to hold on to their perfect dream of "amateurism", as fake as it is. Calling the NCAA a joke for enforcing a rule that's known to all players? He's the joke for breaking such an obvious rule. This has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with the rule. NCAA makes an easy decision here if that's what he did.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) So the Blackhawks are in town literally the night before my birthday in January. For anyone who's gone to a Hawks away game, how much is a lower deck seat worth to me and what is the appropriate thing to wear? Just red in general if I don't own the jersey? Pittsburgh? That's going to be one of, if not the most expensive ticket they'll have all year. Not sure on numbers, but you're going to have to pay a premium I'd guess, especially if you want to go downstairs. Yeah, wear red, or buy a cheap t-shirt or something so you have one. Lot of times you can get free shipping on nhl.com etc.
  6. Dallas can really skate. Saw that last year in the playoffs.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) I would love if someone could explain hockey spreads in less than 250 words to me. Well most times you bet the money line. If it's: Hawks -150 St. Louis +125 It means that you put down $150 to win $100 on Hawks, or put down $100 to win $125 on St. Louis. If there's s spread, it's goals, but same principle...and they'll change the money line obviously. So maybe it's: Hawks (-1.5 goals) -120 St. Louis (+1.5 goals) +105 If final score is Hawks 4 Blues 3, Blues covered. If final score is Hawks 4 Blues 2, Hawks covered. Not sure how many words, but hopefully that's what you were looking for.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 08:14 PM) $400 for signing 80 items, lol. NCAA is a joke. Probably better for him though, less likely to get a major injury before the draft. You can not like the rule (and we know changes have to be made), but until it's changed, Gurley's the joke. They all know they can't sign stuff for money. Stupid mistake, wait a year and you'll have all the money you'll need at this point.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) It looks like Q wants Richards on the 3rd line: lines during morning skate: Sharp--Toews--Hossa, Saad--Shaw--Kane, Bickell--Richards--Smith, Morin--Kruger--Carcillo. That's so f***ing stupid. we spend 5 years looking for a 2nd line center, and now he's on the third line with talentless hacks. Hey, easy on the Smith hate. I know that line was good in the playoffs last year for a bit, but I think Shaw is better suited not only to a 3rd line role, but specifically better at wing. But, none of this matters since we have Carcillo in the lineup. Lines all get f***ed up when you're PKing half the time anyway. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) Hawks lineups never change, so, I'm pretty pissed too. Yeah, I'll go with 6:48 left in the first for the first rotation of the top 9 when it's 1-0 Stars.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) Sounds like Miriam needs to start paying her share of the rent This, for sure. Even if it's not a true 2/3 and 1/3, it should go to maybe 60/40 or something. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) Does anyone actually wear a watch to tell time now a days? I do. Easier than pulling phone out of pocket every time. Or sometimes I'll even (gasp) leave my phone home if I'm out somewhere.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 05:44 PM) Feels good to say, doesn't it? Man you sure hate Brady. I don't love him or hate him, was just evaluating from a fantasy perspective, I thought he would be worth it after I acquired him last year, and he was in that 2nd half. But nothing has carried over into this year thus far.
  12. Tom Brady is/was 100% dropable in a 10 team league.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) It's not a broad brush, it is literally every U of I fan I know. Missouri has a bunch of Cardinals fans so I'm not trying to throw stones, but I've never seen another fanbase so focused on the payoff aspect of things. Literally? We've just found you two who don't claim that stuff. All hail Mizzou fans, though.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) I don't think it is ironic at all. I hate KU with a passion but I completely recognize why kids go there. My point is that when Jimmy Whitt chose Arkansas over Missouri despite being from Columbia I don't remember a knee jerk reaction of "He was paid more" by Arkansas. And losing to Arkansas sucks because of Mike Anderson. But every U of I fan I know that follows basketball has this instinctive reaction to assign the single reason all of these kids don't choose Illinois as they were better paid elsewhere. It's not a good look. It's not because I love to hate on Illinois, I'm basically forced to follow them just because of this board otherwise I wouldn't think about them at all. Alright, enough of this painting with a broad brush crap.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) People over complicate these things. They need to find a good coach and the rest will work itself out. It really is that simple. Now finding that good coach is more difficult at Illinois than at an Ohio State or USC because they aren't able to hire someone with an established track record of winning but it can be done. Exactly. Find a guy. A good coach will overachieve slightly and move the needle with the talent he has, and that will start to attract more recruits, etc.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) http://twitter.com/aroux94 Sooooo why not commit? To f*** with us more? QUOTE (Boogua @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) Yeah, I don't buy this. I think he realizes that most Illini fans have been pretty much giving up on him and he wants to add excitement to the recruitment again. I'm going to expect OSU until he does otherwise. E: I have a feeling his interview is going to go something like this: "Illinois was a great school and recruited me really hard. Their fans were crazy. They were the leader for the while, but Armon committing to Ok St last week kind of tipped the balances. The opportunity to play with him and Jawun was too much to pass up". Sigh.. Probably exactly this.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 11:30 PM) I know. I'm sorry, I really don't want to deal with Cardinals-Giants here. Blah. Gooooooo AL. 5th straight year it's either Cards or Giants. Although I'm much more sick of the Cardinals.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 11:27 PM) It's the 2nd to last out of this team's season, it's completely unacceptable for him to not throw it down to first. That's f***in awful. I'm agreeing with you. And now time for more ridiculous baseball champagne celebrations like you won the World Series.
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 11:17 PM) That ump should legit be fired for that. Well no. However, that's one where if it's not totally obvious he goes around, you throw it down to 1st. He must have thought he went way further around then he actually did. That check swing is one I grab when doing one-man, or in two-man with the base umpire in the middle (runner on). On that, you always grab the strike there.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) I think just the opposite of Illinois. They need to make their past a bigger deal. They should point to those "5 BANNERZ!!!". They had the greatest CFB player ever play at their school. There's also Dick Butkus, Kevin Hardy, Simeon Rice etc. This is a school that doesn't appreciate it's history at all. I realize it wouldn't be much more than a historical footnote now, and that's fine, but you would even realize Illinois had a history talking to just about anyone, fans or not. Not saying we should return to a national power even, but marketing sucks from making illinois look like anything but a doormat. That's even when we do win. Tebow didn't go to Illinois!!!!, but +1 for the IU dig.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) I compare Illinois football to DePaul basketball. They can't even attract good in-state and Chicagoland kids anymore and are living in the past. They need to build from within and stop looking for a miracle hire. Otherwise, any coach successful at Illinois is going to leave within a few years for a better job. Build from within? I don't even know what that means. You need the right head coach to build ANYTHING. Haven't had that in a while. Of course you aren't going to attract high level in-state kids if you win 1 BT game in 3 years. However, they have landed some good in-state kids this year (but who knows how that will shake out with the coaching change). I don't understand the living in the past thing. Whatever guys, kick Illinois while they are down, pile on, whatever, if you hate Illinois that's fine with me. But there's no reasonable answer as to why they can't be Iowa level in the BT on a regular basis with the right coach, staff, and scheme (followed by recruiting by said coach). In fact, any program in the BT can do that right now with those things. Look at Minnesota. Right hire, and they are respectable. The right coach built up the program there.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) Great. But because of where Illinois is as a job, the odds of getting that coach are greatly decreased. That is the reality today. Coaches are avoiding Illinois for a reason. Haha, right.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) Actually my exact words were set up for failure and dead end job. Nothing here has changed that. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) Illinois is probably the worst college football job in the Big 10. Too many unreasonable expectations from the alumni. Wisconsin, Michigan, Penn St, Nebraska, and Ohio St. have winning history. Northwestern, Minnesota, Purdue, Rutgers, Maryland and Indiana are just happy to be successful sometimes. Iowa , Michigan St. and Illinois are the only schools that have tasted success and think they can get it every year. Iowa and Michigan St. are right and are successful sometimes, Illinois is not. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) Looking on from the outside in, this is pretty much how I see things as well. Judging by the amount of problems Illinois had trying to find someone to take the job last time around, I think that correlates to this view. Southsider you're either trolling or you don't follow college football and Illinois closely enough. We lost Sumlin to Texas A&M. Big shocker there. You would have said the same thing about Wisconsin years ago, or Duke recently. One coach can make all the difference. There's nothing inherent that makes it a dead end job or set up for failure. That doesn't make any sense. Knight, as far as your comment about unreasonable expectations. Come on. I don't expect us to compete for BT titles outside the once every magical year thing, but to consistently make bowls and be competitive in most BT games? If that's unreasonable I don't know what is reasonable. The program used to be right behind a Michigan and OSU. We don't even need to get to that level. But there's no reason they can't be an Iowa. None. And that's not unreasonable expectations.
