  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) Yes. And it worked No, and "it working" doesn't prove a thing.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) SOXOBAMA was probably on the sideline Nah man he made a few tackles.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) Well, thats what I meant. High seed, almost always in. Those schools are killing it in recruiting players right from under our noses. Granted we do it to them in football but its getting annoying. I know, it's a cycle that's hard to get on or off, depending on how you're running. You have a team with a ton of talent, they win...other guys want to join, especially if they are only going to be there a short time. You add in liking the coach, the facilities, etc, and that's what gets guys there.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 03:11 PM) Just the beer company trying to get publicity. No.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) I don't disagree...but at some point people are entitled to make decisions on how to treat their children. You could argue that is as bad or worse then what Peterson has done. I would argue it is an awful thing to do but I don't tend to put my personal beliefs in other people's faces but I know if my hypothetical daughter did that to her grand kids, I'd let them know that I thought they were fundamentally wrong and were doing a disservice to their child and ultimately to everyone else's child. However, in a parelell universe, you could argue two things are similar: Peterson's parenting style is based upon what is maybe more common from his childhood and what he is familiar with The Cutler's style / vision is based upon what is more common in the hollywood crowd. As far as I'm concerned, both are bad for the children and both are culturally accepted in certain circles. People can make decisions on how to treat their children, but a line has to be draw somewhere. I see what you are saying, but one has tangible evidence of abuse. Everyone can draw their own line. Some people are OK with spanking for discipline, but I think even people who are OK with it, also have a line. I would have to think that's been crossed, even for that crowd. If not, when does it? He punches him in the face and knocks him out? Hey, it's just discipline, that's what I grew up with. He took it too far, and that's why the argument is now there for abuse vs discipline. I don't think I could make the argument that the Cutler's crossed that line, even though I disagree with their parenting.
  6. But still, no such thing as a "guarantee to play well into the tournament." Now you're saying make tournament. Different.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) It will be an absolute disgrace if Peterson suits up. I will say the same again for Hardy and the guy on the Niners. That said, the way we are going as a society, we are just a few years from Cutler being suspended because him and his wife have the view of not vaccinating their children. Which again, I personally think is stupid and some could probably argue is an improper way to treat your children? Hopefully the NFL steps in and saves the Vikings from themselves and that awful press conference. Oh, and as for Cutler, not only is that an improper way to treat their children, it's an improper way to treat EVERYONE'S children.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) As much of a guarantee as you could possibly have, yes. So not a guarantee.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) You think they wanted the video to come out so they could correct their earlier mistake? Why wouldn't they have leaked it themselves then? The only good thing to come out of the video was a chance to take a second bite at the apple, but that was absolutely secondary to the damage done by the video itself. As for corporal punishment and AP's parenting skills, I see no one defending his actions. However, the US as a society wants to discipline their children how they see fit, and have refused to enact even basic laws to prohibit harsh disciplinary methods, even at the expense of situations like this. They were hoping the video never came out, and, I believe, somehow inexplicably thought it wouldn't. Just another one of the many mistakes they've made.
  10. The guy stuffed leaves in this kid's mouth while beating him with a stick. As if hitting him with a stick to make him bleed isn't bad enough, stuffing leaves in his mouth just shows you it was abusive and he was getting some sort of weird satisfaction out of it. Sorry, that's not being a parent, that's being an asshole who shouldn't be near kids. And shack, stop with this "playing to public pressure" crap. They've mismanaged it from the start, but it's been a cover up, not part of some "oh the public saw the video now we must act." It was an excuse to finally take the appropriate action that they messed up on before. It looks messy, sure, but that's not the real reasoning behind it. It was an excuse to take further action.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) boomshakalaka I have you on ignore, as I do with all Bills fans.
  12. You're splitting hairs. Ugly, sterile, boring, any amount of words could be used to describe it, and would be accurate. With the concrete, lack of color everywhere besides the terrible blue seats? Ugly. The sight lines in the upper deck aren't great once you get down the lines, but that's something that can't be fixed. They messed that up not wanting any sort of overhang, and jamming all suites and a club level between it. Compared to other new parks, I don't think the sight lines are any better in other parts of the park, it lays out similarly. The best thing it has going for it is the open concourse, so you can somewhat monitor/hear the game while walking around. I'll completely disagree that the concourses are wide (until the outfield), at least compared to a lot of other new parks. You have the built-ins on the outside, and the movable stands on the inside. And lines stack from both ways. It's not very wide and gets really tough to navigate with a halfway decent crowd.
  13. Good read http://regressing.deadspin.com/is-javier-b...0201369/+kylenw
  14. QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 11:27 AM) If you're implying it looked like Three Rivers, the Vet, Busch II, Shea, etc, I disagree. I agree the old colour scheme was boring, but its not a cookie cutter. "Marked by sameness and a lack of originality; mass-produced." Perfectly fits that. It doesn't have to be a true circle to be cookie-cutter, if that's your argument. Color scheme was boring? The entire park was boring.

  16. QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Sep 14, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) Um? Are you saying it wasn't cookie cutter? Because the Cell was about as cookie cutter and generic as possible when it was built. It was awful. Absolutely nothing unique about it.
  17. Hindsight's 20/20. You can't risk a zero unless you had someone else tonight or tomorrow ready.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 14, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) Oh, you're right. I guess I'll just watch re-runs of the Golden Girls instead. What is said IS right.
  19. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 14, 2014 -> 12:21 AM) I had to watch the replay of that on ESPN3 after reading this. While it's crazy, the QB simply can't run the ball there. That's the risk when you stay in bounds. Exactly. You risk a lot of things happening at that point. The call/decision is the reason they lost.
  20. Detroit? Omaha? Make it stop. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colle...0911-story.html
  21. I just hope the Vikings don't hold a press conference where the kid has to apologize.
  22. Interesting read for those that missed it. Relates directly to what was talked about earlier in this thread. http://deadspin.com/cbss-james-brown-calls...ey-t-1633775506
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 07:03 PM) Yes but you oractice every day against higher quality players. Plus you get exposure at these schools you don't get at the others which leads to bigger shoe contracts and other endorsements. It obviously is a big deal to these guys. They normally all go to the same few schools. Exposure is irrelevant at this point. Everyone's on TV, every game is taped, etc. You get contracts and other endorsements once you get to the NBA, not sure how college plays any role in that. They all go to the same few schools because those schools have a winning tradition and are the most famous ones in the game. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 11:08 PM) C'mon now. You're severely underrating quality coaching and playing against elite talent. One year is HUGE in anyone's development in just about any sport at around that age. No, I'm not. I didn't say development was irrelevant, but it's a small in the general scheme of things. It's a season. Guys are lauded as one and dones and NBA lottery picks before they go to college. That doesn't change. Plus not all great recruiters are great coaches, either. You can get quality coaching in many places, not just 4-5 schools.
