  1. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) Do you think its weird were the White Sox, but our socks are black?? "Why is it called the foul pole? It's in fair territory"
  2. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) we're coming up from champaign. better not be rain. Amen.
  3. Ok i'm sick of these f***ing attendance threads, i really am. -They are always started by people who never go, b****ing at some of the greatest white sox fans around, many of whom have season tickets anyway or go to games as often as possible. -Only a couple thousand people read this message board, if that. You aren't even reaching your target audience, which are the complete bandwagon, "what do to tonight" people, who may take their buddies or family or what not. -"I don't live in Chicago". Well then please, shut up already. Just because you aren't close enough to go doesn't mean you can b**** about others that are close enough to go. I don't know where you get this logic. -I'm in freakin Champaign and i'm coming up tonight for the 2nd time this year, want to b**** at me for not getting to the games enough? Sorry i've got class and other commitments all the way in CHAMPAIGN. This is probly the case for a lot of people. Stop labeling some of the best fans on here with this attendance bulls***. /end rant.
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 08:13 AM) Oops did not see this. No, it's not an unfair statement, it's my opinion. You were or are an ump, maybe you're a bit biased from that perspective? I actually did see the play on replay a few times, the point was that I saw it the first time and that was enough to make my judgement (opinion). You may be an ump but I would venture to say I've seen a thousand more baseball games, just based on life span. Doesn't make me right and you wrong though. Just that you are stating the ideal world and I agree the call should be made. It isn't though. And why isn't it? And why was it made in this instance? That's the crux of the issue, and neither of us are in the heads of Hunter Wendelstedt and Bruce Froemming, etc. I admit to leaning a bit on what Harrelson said, knowing full well he's a homer - ("before the series we talked about this being a bad crew for this team in this stadium"). Plus, what I saw with my own eyes. Everyone on this board will be watching closely the next time this crew encounters the White Sox. There were too many mistakes made. Thing is, it would be nice if the umps now called this with conistency. They won't, and that's the sad part. I hope you are a better ump than Hunter Wendelstedt, I suspect you are, and much better. Unfortunately, it would not be terribly hard to be better than Hunter Wendelstedt. Well, i thought it was unfair because i took it as "you are just saying it was the right call because you are an ump" That's just not the case. I may understand some calls better because i'm an ump, but you think i would just blindly stick up for Hunter? No way in hell. I'm trying to remain free from bias of who made the call, something that should be done IMO, but others disagree. To each his own.
  5. What's the weather looking like for tonight? How much rain? Is this game gonna get in? Figuring out whether to come up from Champaign or not
  6. Frat guys suck, and should stop wearing that hat.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) Rex, I don't need to watch it again. I saw it once, and saw the ejection once. That was enough for me to state my opinion. You were or are an umpire, you stick up for umpires and will reason it out any way you want to so you can stick up for the umpire. It is consistent with everyone else who's been an umpire on this board so it doesn't surprise me. I was never a baseball umpire but did umpire many softball games. No one is throwing at hitters in softball but there was some rough play and we knew to take situations into context and we knew how to handle them. That's a really, really unfair statement. Also, the fact that you've only watched it once hurts your argument. God, this isn't even close, as Rex said. Crede move into a slow curveball that wouldn't hit him without a huge elbow drop. It's really sad how obvious the call was; it's one of the most obvious i've ever seen for this type of call. Also, the context shouldn't matter one bit, but if you want it to matter, the umps should be even more wary of a intentional HBP due to it being the 9th inning in a tie game. Now, if this was the first batter of the game, it still should be called. And saying that the other HBP should somehow affect this call is just ludicrous.
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) These are pretty good! And on another note, has anyone else noticed all of the Sox gear people are wearing on campus? I have seen countless people sporting that 1983 logo cap in all sorts of different colors. Before i even read Steve's post, i was ready to post this response: Frat guys. That hat sucks because of who wears it.

    Go to class once in a while, freshy. There were people handing out flyers about it all over the quad on Monday.
  15. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Walgreens has them on sale man. Go to the Walgreens on Green St. and they are a buck a bag. I loaded up. Tomorrow morning i'm there man. I"m only a block and a half way. Thanks for the tip
  16. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) Aboz, I just saw the play and I have absolutely no doubt that Crede tried to get hit. He wasn't rotating his body, he dipped his elbow into it. Watch it again. He reacted trying to get on base. In a tie game in the 9th inning, the umpire HAS to make the call he did. Well i knew eventually someone would agree with me. Slow curveball, he moved his elbow INTO it. Stop the argument of "he didn't move" because it's just not true. That call has to be made, plain and simple. It wasn't hitting him without Crede's blatant help.
  17. Ironic that i am eating sunflower seeds while reading this article. I was a huge seed eater during HS baseball, and i still eat em now on occasion, especially while on roadtrips.
  18. Addison where around here can you pick those up? I want to give them a try.
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxfan56789 @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) This is just like a cop pulling you over for going 21 in a 20. It doesnt happen. Terrible example.
  20. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) I could see if it was borderline, but since it was way inside and he doesn't stand close to the plate whatsoever to begin with, it was a bad call IMO. I see what you are saying. If crede 'let it hit him', i might agree since it was inside by a good amount. But moving into it, that's a different story.
  21. I guess we just disagree is all aboz. I think most of us hate the HBP from other teams when their guys don't move. But to intentionally move into the pitch? That's crossing the line by a ton. Regardless of situation, that should be called a ball IMO.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) Quoting an excerpt from Illini's post: Alright. So if the rules were to be properly enforced, NO ONE could reach first base as the result of a HBP unless they were squarely hit. Because if they stood still, regardless of the location of the pitch, it should be called a ball. This is ridiculous. Crede didn't stand still. If he did, the ball wouldn't have hit him.
  23. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Regardless of the "rule book", since the ball was obviously inside there is no way you don't award the guy first base. Now many are saying he leaned into the ball, but he was turning his body, I don't think he said, I'm going to let this hit me. As much as I don't like Hawk, he tells it how it is regardless of the situation and he, like everyone else, knows this was a piss poor call. Whether or not it cost the Sox the game, we'll never know what would've happened had Podsednik reached the plate. The Sox had chances to win, I just hate to see bad calls have any effect on the outcome of the game, which I feel they did impact the game today and yesterday as well. Yes there is a way you don't award him first base - if he blatantly tries to get in front of it. Not "Doesn't move", but moves INTO it. Hawk is also extremely biased and had no reasoning for his disconcern.
