QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) If Crede went out of his way to get hit, thats another story. Its just a call that isn't made. That's what he did. Because that ball was not hitting him as he froze there.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) I have to disagree with this. This is one of those issues where it may be in the rule book, but it isn't called. Its kind of like a game ending in an NBA game with a carryover with like half a second left. (not a blatant carry over, just a carryover). It doesn't happen and shouldn't happen. The rules may not have been adjusted but it isn't called. Its only called when its in the strike zone. But still, its not what cost the Sox the game. Don't really see how that's a fair comparison. The game is over at that point in basketball. In baseball it makes a difference, usually. Really then...what should be called? Should guys be able to jump in front of anything, all the time, and it never gets called? Because the Crede lean was as blatant as i think it can possibly get.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) The bottom line is Crede leaned into it. It is hardly ever called. If Jason Kendall leaned into the same pitch today for Oakland (he's leaned into many before) and they made the call, we would all be saying its the correct call. Wendelstedt holds a grudge. This kind of call is exactly how he gets his revenge. Respectfully disagree. "Not moving" is hardly ever called. Moving into a slow curveball, when the pitch wouldn't have hit you, is called.
-
Now, i know this is hardly ever called. But it's never called because most HBP in question come on pitches where the batter "doesn't make an attempt" to get out of the way and they usually just let it slide. This was drastically different. Not only did he not move, but the pitch wasn't going to hit him. On a really slow curveball, he started his swing, stopped, and dropped his elbow in a blatant attempt to get hit by the pitch. As an umpire (and i have been one for 4 years), you have to call that, period. Otherwise you almost can't call anything if a guy ever gets hit by a ball. Umps made the right call. Flame them all you want for the rest of the series - no arguments there. But this call can't be lumped in with the rest of the series due to bias.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) It doesn't matter with this crew, its a repeated occurence. They blow...MLB better get a memo or something. If I'm the Sox I'd b**** and moan to MLB because something should be done. Its obvious they have really blown this game. There was that call on 1st earlier today and a few calls yesterday asides from this ridiculous bulls*** call last inning. Sox should still have won this game aside from the umps (actually both games) but still umps aren't supposed to be a factor in the final outcome. Iu nderstand mistakes, but this is just ridiculous. I should add,I was merely joking...although I think they deserve to be fined or suspended for calling the game the way they have. Umps can make errors, but this is just ridiculous. I'm right there with you, and action will be taken, this bulls*** crew will see something from the league. I just don't know how serious everyone is here. Seriously, if you pulled the "throw at the ump" thing, i don't even want to know what the suspensions would look like. And, you'd be marked by EVERY umpire in the league. Jas i give you more credit than coming up with what you said, so i kinda realized you were joking...but some people probly think that's actually a good idea.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) I'd just throw a high fastball, have AJ jump out of the way and let it drill the ump...thats who deserves the beaning. We do taht and we have some serious problems. Might want to reconsider, no matter how mad you are.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Oh, you mean the guy who said the team was a joke? Gotcha. That was in no way a personal attack. Yours was.

Time to rip on Dusty Baker yet again - Sunday: "You have to protect [Fox]," manager Dusty Baker said. "This guy's coming off two or three arm operations. He hardly pitched at all last year, so we have to protect him." Monday: Baker has Fox warm up in the 8th inning even though the Cubs have a 4 run lead. He then uses him in the 9th inning after the lead becomes 7. Yes, a 7 run lead and he throws the injury prone (and now closer) Fox out there on no days rest with a huge lead. Fox blows out his elbow, and is likely out for the year. He gone. And all cubs fans love Dusty cuz he's such a great manager, right. In Dusty we Trusty!

Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)
IlliniKrush replied to southsideirish's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah i remember that Steff. Another thing. If you are showing up late to the game, make an effort to find your damn seat quickly. Don't stand in the aisle pondering what section you are in, if it's the right row, and then slowly getting to your seats, standing and hugging and high fiving your buddies who are already at the game while the play is going on. That's inconsiderate as all hell. -

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) You are asking people to live by your rules, in a public place, where everybody else around you paid the same exact price as you paid to be where you are. What kind of event are we at? A baseball game. Many people there, therefore, will want to watch the game. And they paid the exact same price to be where you are, to watch the game, not you the entire game. No one's saying kids can't go to the park. And no one is even b****ing over a bathroom break or two blocking a pitch or two. It's the constant annoyances by a few fans...and we all have seen these people. That's when it gets to people. -
This reminds me of the story that was last summer or the summer before where Connect Four took over the cubs clubhouse...i guess Borowski and Grudz were some of the big players.

Haven't chimed in yet on this thread, but i think it's time i do.... I agree with most of what JimH has said in this thread. To those of you saying simply "grow up and quit b****ing" you are simply ignorant to what goes on at baseball games, or maybe you just don't care about missing things during the game. To each his own. The problem isn't getting up and blocking my view...the problem is that people do it constantly, in the middle of batters, without consideration for anyone else. Is it that hard just to have SOME courtesy for the people around you? Do you really have to exit the seats at least once per inning? What the hell are you doing the whole game? Many times people will get up in the middle of an at bat and slowly exit while looking back at their friends and taking a food order or some s*** like that. That's pretty damn annoying. Or standing up to take a beer order. Yes, it is possible to pass beer while sitting and not blocking my view for what can last an entire at bat. You don't have to be a 'perfect fan' at the game and watch every pitch like a lot of us want to do, but simple courtesy for people around you is all people ask for. Of course, i grew up at the Chicago Stadium where you got the s*** kicked out of you if you didn't wait for a whistle. That's the way i like it. That doesn't mean we should fight over this crap...but you get the idea that the Stadium knew how to run itself, and everyone was better off for it. In general i think 'fans' today are pretty ignorant and aren't even there to watch the game anymore, and i think that's a shame. Fan courtesy, from what i can tell, has only gotten worse over the years. Maybe it goes down deeper into the characteristics and trends in our society...or maybe i'm just way off. But i think on the whole, people are just much more disrespectful and inconsiderate to others...and this translates to the ballpark. -
Happy bday Jason You better drink as much, and preferably more, than i did at soxfest this year. Then you should be in proper form.

Nomar just hurt himself, had to come out of the game. Looked like a groin injury after he tried to run to first base.
