  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) Yep, you can't risk walking to the blue line. There are black people on the way there. Most of them will look at you, and a couple might even say hi to you. Yeah, let's tell a guy from out of town to take a way that isn't as safe as some of the other alternatives. Great advice!
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) I would be fine with it but my girlfriend really doesn't like taxi's and I am not a big fan either and there are cheaper alternatives It is only 3 miles so I can't imagine it being that much. Then make it easy, just use the 20 Madison bus there and back, runs up and down Madison and drops you off at the UC. After the game, there will be buses lined up waiting to take a ton of fans back that way. Can't miss it. If you decide you want to go to Crossroads, you can get off the 20, eat/drink, and either get back on the 20, walk (it is safe and you'll have a lot of people walking with you), or take the free shuttle from Crossroads (or any other bar on Madison).
  3. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) We get there on a Friday so we will have to see how far the green and blue line are.. How close do they get to the United Center? Green line at Morgan is about a 15 minute walk. There are bars on Madison on the way there. I would avoid the blue line, especially after the game in that area.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) I just want to hear "if you want to score goals, go to the net at exactly tree tirty tree of the turd period." You're an idiot.
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) Alaska State troppers had an episode where a trooper had to go to some reservation where there was a youth basketball game that needed a police presence. Also along these lines. Youth baseball game last year. Kid swings at pitch and pitch hits his wrist, umpire calls a strike. Kid is laying on the ground and instead of dealing with the kid everyone (parents/coaches) are arguing with the umpire. It was a travel game at their place and their umpire. It was the right call. We play them later in the season the kid did break his wrist. 90% of parents are morons. 90 might be low.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 12:09 AM) Yeah I was looking at reviews and a lot of people complained about that. I would rather not get screwed with a big fare. Is the CTA app pretty spot on about times? Bus seems like the cheapest and maybe easiest way.. I know you can get a taxi but not really a fan and they get expensive.. It's usually pretty good. Even if you don't download the app, you can just use the cta bus tracker. You pick the route, direction, and stop, and you'll see what buses are due as far as I think 25 minutes out. http://www.ctabustracker.com/bustime/home.jsp
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 11:35 PM) Thank you!! Its a 7 o'clock game so we are planning on getting there as soon as the doors open if possible. Only been to one Bulls game in my life and wanted to look around the UC. Does the 20 bus stop close to the Fairmont Millennium Hotel? You'll use the 20 if you go that early. Hopefully this works...you are the mark on here. You walk a bit south to Madison, and a bit west to Wabash. About a half mile walk. You'll see the M symbol at that intersection as it's also an L stop. So yeah, pretty close. https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en-US&i...mp;ved=0CEIQ_BI Gates should be open 90 minutes before tip.
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 11:13 PM) Girlfriend and I are traveling to Chicago on March 21st until 23rd. We are taking a train from St. Louis up there and staying downtown for a couple days. We are both 21 and haven't stayed downtown before but have been there a few times. I can find my away downtown on foot but we are going to the Bulls game that Saturday and will need to go from our hotel to the United Center which is a little over 3 miles away. We figured the best way to do that is the bus but we aren't sure how it works, how much it is, etc... Or if there is a better way to get there. Any tips would be great and also some restaurants we should go to. We are staying close to Millennium Park so some places to go that are within walking distance would be great! Thanks guys! Bus would work, there isn't a good way there with the L without walking a bit. Couple bus options: Find your way to the 20, which is the Madison bus and will take you right to the doors. Should be 2.25 if using cash. Same 20 bus back going back into the city. 19 is a UC express bus, you can use this as well. Depending on where you are at and can pick it up and what time you leave, this would be quicker. Similar path to the 20. Try to use this 19 if possible. http://www.transitchicago.com/riding_cta/b...spx?RouteId=325 http://www.transitchicago.com/travel_infor...ip_planner.aspx
  9. Edit: NSFW due to language, lot of swears in the video. Don't blast your speakers. Hockey related, so let's throw it here. The video will tell you what you need to know. http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/Canada/Manitoba/ID/2437738025/ http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/hoc...coach-1.2540097 To me, it's tough to tell if the ref purposely threw him down, or if he grabbed him and then slipped and fell on him. Either way, I must say, all these parents can go to hell. I see this in youth sports all the time. Your kid or team acts like a bunch of idiots, and what's the first thing they do? Try to find the ref/umpire at fault for either causing it, not breaking it up, breaking it up too forcefully, etc. You can hear the woman beforehand, "get your hands of our kids." Hey, idiot, the refs are there to break up fights, they kinda sorta have to put hands on your stupid, fighting 12 year olds in order to break it up, no? It is 100% acceptable for refs to "touch your kids" to break up a fight. The end. If they let them just wail on each other, they'd be in the wrong, too, and get yelled at that for that. "Break it up!" Criminal charges? Seems ridiculous to me, but whatever. Your kids started the whole thing by fighting (or something along those lines), then continuing to slash. Maybe I'm an asshole, but the kid had what was coming to him after the thing was done and he decided to keep slashing. You want criminal charges? Guess what, the coach who left the bench to start hitting the ref could face them, too, if you want to play that game. Assaulting a referee/umpire can face some major charges. Oh, and how about the little prick kids slashing the ref with their sticks? I wish the video was more clear, but even if he grabbed the kid and brought him down to separate him, IMO, he's within his rights to do so to isolate the kid and make him not a problem. If there was no injury, I think this should be a non-issue. In hockey, there have been instances where refs end up on top of guys wrestling them to the ice - I've played in travel games and HS games where this happened. Hell, I probably was the guy being isolated at some point. You put the ref in one hell of a spot, and of course, your angel kids can do no wrong. I don't agree that he should be slamming people to the ice on purpose, or to hurt them, certainly, but I think criminal charges is giant load of s*** at this point, and I hope he doesn't get in trouble for it. But, again, from that video, I'm not 100% positive he slammed him to the ice on purpose, though from the once bouncy angle it looks like it. Anyway, gotta love youth sports and parents. Sometimes it's a wonder anyone wants to ref or umpire games for kids with the s*** pay and the abuse you take (I'm not just talking about this incident). Myself included.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) In 2010 the four QF games were held at noon, 4:30, 7:00, & 9:00 local time. The Russians have the same times except for moving the 7:00 game to 9:00. It makes no sense, the 7:00 time slot would still be primetime. There you go.
  11. That hour makes zero difference at that point. There's enough time to stagger it out if they wanted to do so.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) OK, there are women's games scheduled tomorrow, so tomorrow they have to play two games at the same time, and since the winners of those games are playing the next day, they can't schedule one of those any earlier in the day. That still doesn't prevent them from staggering the game times on Wednesday, unless there is a rule where a game can't start, for example, 23 hours (or even 25) after the last game started instead of a full 24.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) Only if they make move one of two women's games scheduled for the other rink outside. There aren't any women's games scheduled that day.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) There really isn't enough time in the day to have four separate game times with separate admission tickets. 3 are at one rink, 1 at the other. They could at least stagger the start times instead of two puck drops exactly the same.

  16. QUOTE (zenryan @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) they did something on the XM NHL station a few weeks ago(first part of January?) where they awarded 3pts for regulation wins, 2 for OT/SO wins and 1 for OT/SO losses. The standings were basically the same in the East and Dallas at the time would've been ahead of Phoenix I believe. So things may have changed a little more since. The Puck Daddy did this in the beginning of December and the only division race that was altered was the Metro, and that was when the Metro was an absolute trainwreck. link I'd just prefer seeing ties brought back in. 2 points for reg/OT win, 1 point for OT loss, 0 for reg loss. No shootouts. I'm fine with ties. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 06:06 PM) Yes, because Sweden had a cakewalk group, they were able to get three regulation wins, and got the #1 seed even their goal differential in three games was +5 while Canada has +9 and the US had +11, both in much tougher groups. The IIHF needs to stop using world rankings to seed the Olympic tournament. The world rankings are based mostly on World Championships, which are played the same time as the Stanley Cup playoffs, so very few NHL players participate. Nobody thinks that Canada and the US are the 5th and 6th best teams at the Olympics, so it's stupid to seed the preliminary groups that way. Now we get deprived of another epic US-Canada gold medal game. The divisions weren't terribly different. They all had 2 of the 6 powers in there, which is what you need. Slovakia and Slovenia played poorly - I thought Slovakia would be better. Norway and Austria are weak. Czech may not be Finland or Russia as a 2nd, but Switzerland is better than any 3rd team (going in) in any other division based on what we've seen so far. Even Latvia wasn't as awful as I thought they'd be. It's also no guarantee US and Canada would both beat a Russia or a Sweden etc. to get there anyway. I wanted the matchup too, but if we get it in the semis, so be it, it'll still be great.
  17. After Michigan goes down to Wisconsin at home, Michigan St loses at home to...Nebraska. OK then.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) So I assume the U.S. didn't get the 1 seed because they went into OT for one of their games? EDIT: For some reason I was under the impression that all wins counted the same, didn't realize they got 1 less pt for winning in the shoot out. It's the scoring system the NHL should have, but doesn't.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) Wow talk about the US screwing themselves by playing well. Play the winner of the two strongest second tier teams then Canada in the semis. It will be a tough road, though that Canada Switzerland matchup isn't a forgone conclusion with the way Hiller is playing. I am disappointed we can't get a USA Canada matchup for gold, but a semi matchup would still be epic. Raask played well but both goals were soft. Wish the timing of the second would have been earlier.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) True, but I'd still prefer to avoid playing them that early. If Canada/Finland ends in regulation, US gets Switzerland. If it goes to overtime, US faces winner of Czech Republic vs Slovakia. And if Canada loses in any fashion, they'll get Russia in the quarterfinals. Crazy, as a lot of people had that pegged as the gold medal matchup.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) You can golf in Chicago too http://topgolf.com/chicago/ Been there multiple times, enjoy it a lot. But, not real golf.
