  1. I still don't understand why anyone would willingly click on an Olympics thread if they were hoping not to see a result, or were going to watch something on DVR. It's pretty easy to avoid.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) Illinois has the third worst class of all of the major conferences, just slightly ahead of Utah and Colorado from the Pac-12. edit: I guess if you want to consider the ACC a major conference, they're the seventh worst. Its not a great class, but its hard to expect much with one BT win in 2 years. Its kind of like chicken and the egg. They have to put up wins this year to have any chance to recruit a 2015 class. Don't win, and TB is gone and recruiting starts again. I cant be shocked or pissed our class isn't great. But, this class isn't as bad as most think when you factor in James, Ayoola and Lunt. Plus nice little blurb here http://247sports.com/Article/Big-Ten-Signi...it-again-175918 Now you have to win games. Nothing else matters right now. You have enough immediate impact guys and returning players to do so.
  3. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 06:06 AM) I used to live in Willowbrook (down the street) for some time.. whats up? Was wondering how bad the flooding problems are in CH
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) Nooooooooo.... I had a reasonable expectation that 3 of the 5 starters would have improved, not regressed. And that they wouldnt be the worst shooting team in the country. Clearly I was wrong. Hey, you weren't even the biggest guy here believing it. Really, wasn't going after you there. But, in no way did I see them being better this year, and had endless posts saying so. I didn't expect it to be like this in the BT, but I did see the step back coming. This year blows, but I'm still behind Groce and the program overall. Not panicking here like some are.
  5. Or know a lot about it? Let me know...
  6. So remember when someone thought they'd be better than last year's team and we had a pretty long debate?
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 08:12 PM) Cant wait for the renovation to be complete. All the empty A section seats are so annoying. While this is true, there is a lot more to it tonight than just A section not showing up per usual. There's under 5K in the building. Look at C section on the replays. Completely empty.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) The win probability for the Seahawks at halftime is 97% Up to 99.9 yet?
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) Are those outdoor hockey games great just because of the setting? Can you even see the puck? Just wondering. Club and Upper Deck tickets would be great, 100 level and bleachers would suck.
  10. Hey Seahawks fans, you aren't even the real home of the 12th man. Try being original.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) Give me one reason that this is true. Because if you play with no goalie and 6 attackers, you'll never win.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 07:57 AM) Careful, they are the best and loudest fans in the whole wide world. Just ask them, they will happily tell you. Or don't, they will still tell you. They'll also tell you how they stole the whole 12th man thing but try to pass it off as their own.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) If you can't beat MSU on your home floor with two of their top players out and superior depth in overtime, then you're not a legit B10 title contender. Now the big question will be to see how Iowa responds at Illinois and at home against OSU the next couple of games. That's about the furthest thing from a big question.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) The NFL plays their entire season and playoffs in the elements, except for the very last game. Those games determine just as much of who goes to the super bowl as any others. I'm not sure why it changes for that one game. Even baseball which comes complete with rain delays and the like, plays in the cold for the playoffs. If the elements are such a worry for the Super Bowl, why aren't they the same level of important for who goes to the Super Bowl? Again, how many games are played in terrible elements, such as ones that usually occur in February in New York? Per year? And the answer to that is, you can't play every game in a neutral site, for numerous reasons. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) Yes. Lightning, tornadoes in the area. Supposedly it is for fan safety. But is it really any safer for fans to sit 3 1/4-4 hours in temperatures potentially subzero? Or other typical cold weather winter conditions? It appears that will be avoided, but it another reason I don't understand actually wanting to play a game, especially with this much on the line, in bad weather. I wonder how the attendance at all the extra Super Bowl week stuff compares between when the game is held somewhere warm and when it's held in a cold weather city with a dome. Really, if it weren't obvious schedule problems and no time to make up games, I think games would be delayed and postponed like they are in baseball for extreme conditions. Even here, they have a contingency plan to play the game another day if the weather is too rough. I think it shows the NFL doesn't want the game's outcome to be tainted by weather. Baseball doesn't play in rain storms. If the rain starts impacting the field, the game is halted. They don't play through all the elements. They'll play through cold. And yeah, the NFL saying there at contingency plans just admits that they want to control the elements, to a degree. Don't pick and choose. You want to make this dumb decision? Play if it's 6" of snow and 40 wind. Everyone would be so entertained, instead of watching a good football game. I'd rather watch a better football game where players are given conditions to succeed, rather than see who can "adapt" or "adjust" to a snow storm. We all just have different definitions of what defines the best team, and what type of game we'd like to see determine it.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 09:41 AM) I like that the art of team building involves preparing for all kinds of contingencies that are broderline random - weather, injuries, etc Can we stop with this silly line of thinking? What GM builds their team based on "cold weather guys," or something equally as stupid? There's no proof guys make constant signings and draft picks based on a possible few games of bad weather at the end of a season. You build the best team you can on paper. Injuries is way different than weather. That's just depth. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) Bad weather isn't a home field advantage. The Packers see zero benefit from hosting a single-digit temperature playoff game. A better team could lose early in the playoffs because of a "fluke" or luck caused by the weather, it's part of the game. If they are so adamant about only NFL stadiums hosting Super Bowls, then let every city host it. If the conditions are good enough for every other playoff game, they should be for the Super Bowl. If you ask the Packers, they'd probably say they have a benefit from hosting in single digits. Haven't the Bears said that about cold weather Bears football? When you can control luck or fluke, I'd rather control it and not have it be part of the game. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) Agreed. Also, they have to adapt to different conditions every week throughout the season. Whether it be indoors/outdoors, grass/turf, heat/cold, rain/snow, etc., every week in the NFL leads to varying playing conditions. It's not like the NBA suddenly holding the NBA Finals at Rucker Park after the entire season being playing indoors in arenas. Again, how many games are played in bad weather throughout the year for a team? 1? 2? See, the NBA playing in Rucker Park would be exactly like choosing to play the Super Bowl in New York. It'd be completely silly, as the NBA wants to make sure the conditions are as best as possible. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) I prefer watching the championship determined with both teams playing in excellent playing conditions with no excuses, less of a chance for flukes to win games. It's for all the marbles. I think conditions should be to make these teams as close to 100% capacity as possible. If it is 38 degrees, and not all that windy, that's OK. But if it was like it is in Chicago today, or a blizzard, if the Bears were playing, I would be sick it they lost because something flukey happened that had nothing to do with ability. Of course, I wouldn't mind if they put a dome on every NFL stadium. Exactly. Bad conditions even the playing field and make it more likely stupid things determine a winner. I don't see how anyone could say it'd be a great super bowl if you have Manning trying to throw into a 40mph wind and snow, when it's something that could have been controlled. In those conditions, every team in the league would have a great shot to win that game.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) But then why is it OK for the NFC/AFC championship games and the rest of the playoffs to be played in s***ty conditions? Control the weather there too, if you'd like. It'd make for better football. And your answer is, as if you couldn't figure this out, one team earned home field advantage there, and the Super Bowl is always a neutral site game. When you can control weather and field conditions and fan environment, you should, as it's better football.
  17. Twitter once again rearing its head as a tool for idiots. Some absolute dumbasses responded to the non-snow/cold day at U of I today with ridiculous nonsense.
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) I just don't understand people freaking out about possible snow during the game. This is a football game right? We aren't watching the Arena League. In about 7 inches of snow the Lions/Eagles combined for 54 points. Not exactly a snooze fest. But an awful, flukey, luck reliant game. Not how I prefer the most important game to be played. I prefer good football.
  19. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) I was at the Hawks-Wild game last night, dude a few rows in front of me was wearing a Jocelyn Thibault jersey. Congrats, you win this round of spot the non-bandwagoner. I loved Thibault, thought we were set when we got him from Montreal.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) This team sucks so hard. I don't know why I keep subjecting myself to the torture. Because we're Illinois fans, and this is our life. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) Rice single handedly losing this game for Illinois tonight. Absolutely no reason for him to be playing so many minutes tonight with how bad he has been especially since Nunn has played well. If he's really that hurt, don't play. This is brutal. Rock, told you you'd be alright.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) Even if you're Green Bay, between road games and early season games, you play well over half your games in good weather conditions. You can't build a team that relies on having adverse weather to win and expect to be successful. Every team has to be able to win in good weather in order to reach the Super Bowl. Not every team has to be able to win in bad weather to reach the Super Bowl. Not to mention, no one builds their team around playing in bad weather. You build a winning football team, period. GB barely plays in bad weather and if they built a team around that, they wouldn't have Aaron Rodgers at QB, presumably. And do you really know the difference between a good bad weather player and bad bad weather player? The whole "Bears defense, cold, GRRRRR, Bear weather" thing is just made up by fans. Emery is not building anything based on possible bad weather for a few games in December.
  22. Scoring surge to end the half doesn't make it looks as bad as it's been. In other news, Oregon, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Iowa State started season combined 58-0. Now they've lost a combined 14 in a row.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) I'm glad it's going to be in cold weather - why can you play in NY/Chicago/Green Bay/etc. one weekend but not two weeks later? It is much more exciting to see people play in "bad" weather Yeah, if you like a worse brand of football. OMG IT'S SNOWING HOW COOL.
  24. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) When I did it nobody got hurt. When Bieber did it nobody got hurt. Where's the victim? So if I go down to Daley Plaza and just start spinning around and shooting a gun aimlessly, I'm cool until someone actually gets hurt, in your opinion?
