The Official 2014 Opening Day thread

QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) KC has to be better than that. Christmas Eve tonight! Who's going to be in attendance? I'll be there by 2. I'll be there with an 8 month old, will be quite a different opening day experience. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 11:47 PM) Q said he doesn't think it's serious, calls the Captain day-to-day, but we all know how hockey injuries go. "Upper-body" = dead.
-
You're an idiot, Kopecky doesn't use an "h"
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) f***. Brooks Orpik just ended the Hawks season. f*** me up the f***ing ass.
-
Interesting. They moved the retired numbers off the wall and put it above the stadium club for only one year.
-
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) Cannot believe the ref allowed the game to be decided by a flop (or, if you're biased, a 50-50 call at best) What bulls***. You just don't call that there. Let the players decide the outcome. Even if it's a no call, Michigan recovers the ball.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 28, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) Notre Dame football fans in the house? Yup, they'd have to be there.
-
Great article. Still so glad they absolutely f***ing nailed that call, despite the ignorant cries of "a game can't end like that." http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10647034...bstruction-call

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 23, 2014 -> 02:41 PM) That car scene in Parenthood this week was strong. Yeah, it was. Could barely grab the remote to fast forward through the next commercial after that.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 25, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) Once in 14 years is really stretching the definition of "occasional". And let's be honest, the only reason ND got that one was by shooting 3's out of their ass in the second round. Fixed. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 25, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) Longtime Blackhawks writer Tim Sassone dies Sad news. Covered the Blackhawks for 25 years. Really sad. Sassone was the go to guy for Hawks coverage for years, especially before internet coverage, etc. Always looked forward to reading his columns when picking up the sports section and bringing it to school with me during middle school/high school. Plus, my hat goes off to him for covering such awful hockey for a long stretch and still making it as interesting as possible. Always had straightforward opinions, not afraid to call guys/management out, etc. No doubt he'll be honored pre-game tonight.

So you think you find a 2nd line center to try...then you move your 2nd line winger to the 3rd. Without Kane, we need production out of Sharp. Can't leave him with Handzus. Either try it with TT or stack the first line.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 25, 2014 -> 05:46 AM) Yeah but there is also something to having the team in red while the fans are mostly wearing red as well. I get it, but you could do the same thing in white. And white outs are bad ass, hat tip Winnipeg.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 24, 2014 -> 08:25 PM) Says everyone's "sources" on Twitter. At this point, most people are just trolling, no one really knows how legit it is. CHECK THE FLIGHT PATHS -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 24, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) Same here. Plus, you got to enjoy the huge variance in road jerseys, instead of just the white ones. Yeah, seeing everyone's whites is lame. The whole 3rd jersey thing kind of pushed the change, since teams wanted to wear those at home, and then teams would have to be hauling both darks and whites on road trips, plus other gear that changes with color like helmets, socks. But you could just as easily make it standard on the road - bring darks only, be it alternates or normal darks. Wear your darks/alternates on the road and more people can see them. Everyone has TV now, the marketing wouldn't be any different, you'd still sell those jerseys to the home fans.
-
I wish they still wore whites at home. Those are my memories - Hawks, Chicago Stadium, home whites.

Even if you only watched one WSU game this year and it was yesterday, your eyes should tell you that it is a very good basketball team. We're talking about a one possession game here. If they lost by 15 points, I'd be more apt to listen to the overrated crap. If that shot goes in, or any other shot goes in/doesn't go in, is the narrative changed that dramatically? It doesn't really change how good the basketball team is, it just means they got the shorter end of the stick in that particular game. Does your narrative change based on what Kentucky does now? Or if they lose to Louisville, what Louisville does?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 24, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) They are officially from 16-32 so I do not consider them a contender or a top 4-5 team. I've had my team lose early and I thought the same but the fact is you cannot prove it when you lose so early. Thats the nature of the tournament and nobody will remember them as a championship caliber team nor will they care who they got knocked out by. I disagree, I'll remember who they got knocked out by and that they were a good team. The NCAA tournament is random by nature, as it is one and done. It's like the baseball playoffs. You just need to be in, and take a spin at the wheel. Wichita St isn't in the 17-32 range of teams this year, and even you know that, just don't want to admit it. Just like Duke isn't in the 33-64 range of teams, etc. It's all opinion, but to think you're taking ONLY the results of the NCAA tournament to determine how good a team is/was, is crazy talk.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 24, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) What am I missing here... EDIT: OH it looked like beer. I just assumed it was that nasty looking brown drink he usually drinks during games. Usually it's in a Dasani bottle but I'm guessing the conference made him put it in an "official beverage container" during the tournament. I remember seeing it live and I was so confused...then I remembered the poop water he drinks. But it was pretty weird in that it was right at the end of the game, when you knew they had lost with barely any time left...so it definitely fit the narrative of "well, we lost, may as well drink this beer" -

Wichita St was/is a very good team. Coin flip game today. One possession game. Unfortunately like Rock said the average person will see undefeated but lost in 2nd round, so they were overrated. I'd say they are easily one of the top 5-10 teams in the country, but it's the tournament...anything happens. That was a man's game today, really good basketball game.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Calipari, Billy Donovan, Alford...those are the smug guys you love to see lose. Calipari is like Nick Saban or Belicheck to me. A lot would include Roy Williams and Self on that list, along with Boeheim. For what it's worth, I hope Wichita State crushes them just to show that getting all those one and done players almost never works out anymore in terms of building a cohesive, team-first type of program. I never hated Pitino as much because of all the personal issues that he's gone through...and I really enjoy watching teams that have a well-coached pressing style and outwork/outhustle their opponents. No way is Donovan anywhere near the class of Calipari or Alford. Boeheim is an asshole too. I don't have anything against Self, never struck me as a bad guy. You also forget Coach K, one of the biggest pricks on the planet.
