2014-2015 NCAA football thread

Lunt >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bailey although I hope Bailey gets involved as well. You know what's funny, we were in Seattle 2 years ago for about 4 days, never rained once. Seemed pretty bizarre. I expected it to be like The Killing. I had some Illini gear on, a local (and U of I grad) was like "hey, you know you're about 2 years early for the game, right?" -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) Just booked a flight to Seattle for the weekend of the Illinois/Washington game. I expect it to be a beat down but Seattle is an awesome town so should be a good time. Hey, you never know. It appears they have some QB issues, and maybe Lunt throws for 400 and surprises us all I've been tempted to go to that game, been to Seattle once a couple years ago...just don't know if it's worth it to go all the way out and back for that. My dream world scenario has me going to a bowl game this year if we can sneak to 6-6, so maybe saving for that instead. -
Blues absolutely dominated the first 2 periods and had to be so deflated to be even after 2. Yes, they had power plays, but even 5 on 5, Hawks had nothing going. Blues were carrying the play and the possession. Thank God the PK held the fort and Crawford too...then took advantage early 3rd. And the Blues were rightly on the PP the whole period, it's not like the Hawks were getting screwed. Blues were creating some of those by moving their feet well. Once the 3rd goal hit (maybe even the 2nd one), it was lights out. Root for a game 7 in the Avs/Wild series, then whoever we play would be tough. I'd rather take chances with Minnesota, but that guarantees nothing.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) Why would you wait to look forward to that? I post about all the time he should be fired. No reason to wait pal. You missed the point - you root for losses. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 08:48 AM) I'm glad Beckman is properly paving the way for the next coach. Hopefully we can keep them when he is inevitably fired See what's great about you is you are the classic negative Illini fan. I know this fall you'll actually be rooting for them to lose (which makes the climb to respectability even tougher) instead of hoping they can turn it around and build some momentum. Let's see, first loss will likely be at Washington, I'll look forward to your fire Beckman posts after that game ends. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 07:26 PM) Illinois looking to land OL Megginson and possibly one more recruit tonight. Would be huge for us, and a fantastic addition to a solid start for the 2015 class. Ridiculously huge get. Monstrous. "Last year, highest ranked State of Illinois recruit on the 24/7 composite list: #25. This year we've landed #4, #6, and #10. It's April." -
Yeah, but like, the balls are juiced. #angrythomas

Good night, St. Louis. Have fun blowing s*** up this summer. Also Backes looked f***ing awful, so no, he's not over his concussion. No way he should have been playing.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) Yeah, I think that statement is true. An entire town can't be racist while cheering for, and celebrating, the accomplishments of black athletes (and doing so for a very, very long time). The Flying Illini are talked about in Champaign like the 85 Bears are in Chicago. They're a beloved team. They JUST had a 25 year anniversary celebration for them. I bet Dee Brown is the most famous/favorite Illini of all time, and he happens to be a black dude with cornrows. And the people of Champaign love him despite hating black people?GMAB. Bardo is still a well known face around town. It's moronic to say that because some black kids have had some bad experiences on/around campus (an experience mind you, when he ran away from cops, because that's NEVER a sign that a kid is trying to hide something), the entire community is racist and stuck in the 60's. Tell people there are still racist cops. Tell people you had some s***ty experiences. Don't stereotype an entire town of people and make the school look bad in the process. You're not being an advocate for the school when you do that. IIRC Bardo's also not exactly the most perfect guy in this regard. In a prior book he s*** on someone in the program and it didn't sit well and i'm sure he did it to sell books (oh and he just happens to have a book that was published recently). And no, I don't think Champaign is racist anymore than any other town in this country. A small % of people may be racist, but not the town, and not the majority of the people in that town. Well put. He's not just "speaking his mind a little bit" Littlehurt. He's painting with one hell of a broad brush there, and deserves any and all blow back he receives. It's pretty ridiculous to take one incident (in which, again, he ran from cops...) and have him jump to that conclusion or opinion. -
Bailed Crawford out. Time to take a road game Friday. Kane's shot hit Shattenkirk, btw. In the Pitt/Col series, in each game a team has had a 3-1 lead. In each game, that team has lost 4-3. Fleury, good God

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) I don't see that getting changed. 3:30 ET is the ideal time to be the second game in the Eastern Time Zone and the first game in the Pacific Time Zone. Also, local ABC stations own the 7-8pm time slot, so anytime games run later than 7:00, the network starts losing money. The best solution is to implement rule changes that get games down to a 3:15 average length. Then you can have the games at 12:30 and 3:45 instead of 12:00 and 3:30. Agreed on moving games faster. I don't really think when starting a game on the pacific time zone has much of an impact on time. I feel like a 12/3:30/7 CT would/could work perfectly. I think even that extra hour would make a big difference. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) Your primary TV rights holder, which in the BT's case is ESPN/ABC, is going to dictate start times. They want their #1 BT game on at 3:30 ET, so in order to get a game in before that it has to start at Noon ET. Anything can be changed. I get why it's like that right now, but the point is to change it moving forward. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) I'm still confused by that one, no one will be watching the second half. The rest of the BT slate that night isn't any better. They didn't bypass an amazing matchup. It'll still be a "game" in the second half, more than likely. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 10:14 AM) Can't say I expected the Kings to give up 17 goals in 3 games. Nope, no one did. Littlehurt get your coffee going tonight, your favorite start time.

Kings dominated overtime, SJ comes down and gets once "chance" and scores a fluke goal to win it. I wanted the Kings to win just to make it a 2-1 series.

BT needs to move their windows from 11/230 and put in later games. I don't think any fanbase enjoys the 11am games, and you've got half the conference on central time. It makes it harder for not only students, but fans that have to drive, or would like to tailgate and enjoy the game. Even an hour would help, to 12 central. And, the atmosphere at those 11am games isn't as good. So I'm a fan of more night games - anything that moves games later in the day works for me. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 08:10 AM) Besides the power play issues, the Hawks stars really need to get on the score sheet. Hossa - 0 points Sharp - 0 points Kane - 1 point Morin - 0 points QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) The deserving team may be 0-3 in this series. But that's playoff hockey. Hawks don't deserve a 3-0 series lead, that's for sure. Could they be up 3-0? Sure. But they haven't outplayed the Blues in 3 games to deserve anything. I'm not looking at this series going man, we're just unlucky, we should be up 3-0.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 12:14 AM) Nice to see the refs steal a goal and possibly the game away from Tampa Bay tonight with a bogus goalie interference call. So you aren't going to like this, but it was 100% the right call. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=449992 However, it's a rule that clearly needs to be fixed.
-
Poor Columbus. And that Granlund goal, wowzers.
-
Crawford stole a game (and Miller lost it on a super softy). Hawks got outplayed, which is very concerning. Better effort needed Wed or it's going to be 3-1. And for the love of God, a PP goal would be nice. Or, even just a decent PP chance or two.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Crawford needs to be a little better for the Hawks to make a run. Starting tonight. He hasn't been the problem, really. You know what's a problem? No forward has a goal since the first period of game one.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) You have no idea what they've said on the ice and they've shown over the course of basically your entire lifetime that they are a classless organization. One hit doesnt change any of that. The Hawks are a team who have won cups with skill over bulls*** hockey teams like that twice now, and there is no reason to forget that. I don't need to know what has been said, but I know what hasn't been said. There hasn't been a hit on any Hawk that had knocked him out and given him a concussion. Therefore, the Blues haven't even had the opportunity to make such a comment on a brutally injured player. Look, I don't like the Blues, I'm not defending them - I'm concerned about the Hawks. I just don't like the Hawks going down to such a level. Like you said, win with skill over bulls*** hockey, or worse yet, insults to players that clearly don't need it at the time. To me, that's going too far. If St Louis did that I'd be pissed, but I wouldn't want the Hawks to do it on top of it. I'd just call the Blues out for being ass clowns. For as much as the Blues are hated, and have a reputation, we're being the idiots here so far. Seabrook's hit + Keith's yapping have been the 2 dumbest, cheapest things in the series. Don't get caught up in that crap, go win a GD hockey game.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) LOL, I like how the media has completely forgotten the Blues are one of the dirtiest teams in the league because they think Keith trash talked Backes. Come on. Eh, that was pretty classless, I'm not a fan of stuff like that when guys are clearly injured/dangerously injured. Not the first time the Hawks have done this. And now, before you say "every team in the league talks s***," there's a difference, IMO, between talking s***, and chirping when guys are seriously hurt. I have to draw the line somewhere. Believe me, I don't like Backes either. Keith's a great player, but he's a total dickhead. He may have not known that the hit was dirty, perhaps, but even so, it's just unnecessary. I don't get anything from it. Blues haven't done anything similar to that this series, so it's OK that the Hawks get called out for that.
-
Backes officially out. As if there was any chance he'd play.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) I'm kicking around the idea of renting a jeep...$370 for the week. That could certainly be a good option. We used our car quite a bit.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 11:51 AM) Wedding is this weekend...really looking forward to Maui... So you guys think a car is a must there? For sure.
