QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 06:21 AM) I agree. The Kings had some chances in the 1st, but Corey shut em down, then that 2nd goal just before intermission really knocked the Kings down. I think the back-to-back games hurt Quick, he definitely didn't look the same. I remember in the offseason, I was hoping the Hawks could make a trade for Bernier if he was on the market, as Crawford wasn't to be trusted. Oops. Looking good so far, but as they say, a series doesn't start until the road team wins a game. I hate that saying. It's completely stupid and makes no sense. -

You conveniently left out: Penguins O > Bruins O. And actually, with a healthy Crosby...Penguins O > Hawks O. But it doesn't matter. The Penguins are the more talented team. Period. Doesn't mean Boston won't beat the Penguins, but if the Hawks can advance, they'd beat Boston more times out of 100 than they would the Penguins out of a 100. If you're strictly looking from a Hawks perspective, you hope Boston pulls the upset. If you are looking from a Goliath vs Goliath with the potential to possibly one of the best Stanley Cup Final series in the past 20 years, you hope Penguins win the series. But, lowers the chance the Hawks win. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 30, 2013 -> 08:32 AM) For everyone who is worried about Jonathan Quick, I don't really see him playing any better than Jimmy Howard did in the 2nd round. The man only allowed 16 goals on 238 shots for the series (just under 94%). He easily could, and has so far. Quick's been the best goalie in the playoffs. Howard was good, Quick's been ridiculous. Who knows if he keeps it up, but Howard's not on the same level as Quick this playoffs. Quick has had way more "holy f***" saves in the playoffs so far. I think he's at 1.50 GAA so far with like a 95% SVPCT. -
What a f***ing asshole.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 29, 2013 -> 10:50 PM) Right...therefore, an offsetting penalty would be called immediately. The only reason there are delayed penalties is because the team that was not penalized has possession of the puck. I think in soccer it is called advantage; same concept in hockey but not sure if they call it that. Do they have the discretion to not call an offsetting penalty though if it was away from the puck and has no effect on play? Correct in paragraph one. Yeah...in that situation, he could have let it all go to begin with, or he could have waited to call it/decide not to call it at that point by looking up and observing holy s***, i'm not going to take away a prime scoring chance in the closing minutes of a game 7 for some worthless coincidental penalties. He could have just skated up to them and encouraged them to keep it moving and essentially break it up, which seemed like what was happening anyway. Here's what I think happened...he saw the bulls*** in front of the bench. While the call probably should have been Det only, there's no way he's putting the Hawks on a PP on that bulls*** in that situation. So he takes them both...but did not observe the play whatsoever and realize the whistle would be a a terrible time. That could have easily been let go, it was basically over, just play on at that point. If Saad was throwing haymakers I would have had no problem with the call, but after seeing what he did (or really, didn't do), I was f***ing stunned. I was expecting to see something absolutely ridiculous behind the play that forced the stoppage. Thanks for the kind words in your post earlier about me, Steve, etc. Sudden death hockey is the greatest thing in sports...unless it's your team. Game 7's are the best thing in sports...unless it's your team. Combined? Epic. Your team? f***ing Dear God, worst thing ever. -

Good God, not sure how many years that took off my life. **************************** Before it becomes a footnote (as opposed to one of the most memorable calls in NHL history), a note on the call to nullify the goal to clear up any confusion for when this never, ever happens again: Ref doesn't raise his arm on coincidental minors because it's not a delayed call (which is what the arm up signals). It's an immediate whistle when he decides he's calling it. He called it well before the goal, blew the whistle, and it's when he decides as well, not when whistle blows (which I'm pretty sure you could hear on the replay before the shot anyway). The wave off is just something well after the fact, it's irrelevant to the timing. So the call itself was executed correctly...it was just beyond terrible judgment in a couple ways. *************** Thank God they rebounded. Any shot's a good shot in OT. Now to try to score on Quick. Kings are a good f***ing team, and Quick has been nothing short of stellar. Should be a very low scoring series. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 29, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) I think the delayed start to the season is to blame too. The last possible date for a SC Final game 7 is June 28, so they are running out of time. No matter who wins tonight, if both conference final series go to 7 games, both game 7s will be on the same Wedneday night, which is not ideal. Yup, that'll be 830/9 start here if both go 7. -

QUOTE (Boogua @ May 29, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) I guess we'll see come March. Well, I didn't say they have no chance to make the tournament. What % chance do you have them to make the tournament? "Definitely" means like 90% to me, which I don't think that's the right % to use. -

QUOTE (Boogua @ May 29, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) Because the front court was significantly better last year? Rice has division 1 experience (and did pretty well) as well as a full year's practice with a BT team, Ekey is a 5th year senior with Div. 1 experience, and Starks played in a power conference and will be a better 3 point shooter than anybody we had last year. Last year the front court was Sam McLaurin (a guy who played in the big south), Griffey (who was terrible his first three years in college and wasn't great last year), and Egwu (a sophomore coming off a season where he averaged less than 10 minutes per game). Actually, yes. You're relying on a bunch of freshman, you lost McLaurin, Griffey (Ekey is maybe a poor man's Griffey) and you also lost Henry, which for this year is huge. You may be starting Egwu and Ekey with 2 freshman coming off the bench. Team was carried by seniors, one of them a star. On paper, it's clearly not a better team. -

QUOTE (Boogua @ May 29, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) You do realize what people's expectations were this time last year, right? How soon people forget... And I'm not saying it WILL happen, I'm just saying I won't be surprised if it does. To say that it's not possible is pretty foolish. Expectations last year for a lot of people were "try to make the tournament." It doesn't matter what expectations were last year, we already have the results. Saying "they should definitely be a tourney team" is foolish. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 29, 2013 -> 10:10 AM) Last year's team was a lot more dynamic, but incredibly inefficient. Betrand is about as efficient as a guard can get. Starks and Rice too are efficient players. We will see how it plays out. Scholarship players with BT experience: Egwu Abrams Bertrand That makes it hard for me to imagine any scenario where they are better than last year. Especially looking at the front court. -

QUOTE (Boogua @ May 29, 2013 -> 08:27 AM) This would be huge. The Illini should definitely be a tourney team if he can play this year. The upcoming team will replace guys like Griffey, Paul, and Richardson with Ekey, Rice, and Starks. I'm not saying they will be able to fill those shoes, but with improvement from Abrams, Egwu, and Bertrand along with the incoming freshman I wouldn't be surprised if this coming team is better than last years. There is no way they are better than last year. No way. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 29, 2013 -> 09:00 AM) Judging from the extremely high ticket prices, I imagine that you don't say no when the Rolling Stones ask to play at your arena, NHL/NBA playoffs be damned. I get it, but to have bad ice tonight, then bad ice Saturday and Sunday (and playing back to back)...you'd think there'd be a way to schedule it at a different time. I was thinking they'd end up going Saturday/Tuesday to start. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2013 -> 08:45 PM) Since 1987, the home teams are 91-53 in NHL game 7's. Of the 48 times a team has rallied from down 3-1 to tie a series at 3 games each, their record is exactly .500 in game 7 (24-24). And none of it means a thing. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) We will see how it all turns out. He shut down the White Sox. He was great last night, but a lot of pitchers have shut down the White Sox. It takes a little longer to really be considered what you consider him. He's done more than shut down the Sox. Stats last year pretty good, stats this year pretty good. I consider him not "hot garbage." I guess it depends on your definition, but I don't really think it's an argument.
