QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Lets give it a few more games before we send the ALL STAR GAME STARTING PITCHER to the trash heap. Mark Buerhle is our best pitcher. He's just in a funk right now. I would have full confidence in him against any opponent, even Boston and Oakland.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) If the trend continues, Mark might not even make the rotation. He's been getting hit hard and has not had a solid outing in a while. I'm sure he will turn it around but you never know. To a certain extent, this isn't a terrible post. Mark has been rocked for a while now. His ERA is around 5 over his last handful of outings. While Mark would probably make the rotation without his arms, he has been worse as the season wears on, just as he was last year.
-
Contreras has posted an ERA around two his last five starts. I know we picked up Duque for the playoffs, but Contreras' performance of late is hard to ignore. I'm not saying that Contreras should or shouldn't be in the rotation, but I am just trying to see what you guys think.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) I won't deny the fact that we need some more CONSISTENT offense. No doubt. But you go up and down over 162 games. Right now is not good. The offense has been mediocre at best all year. This homestand is just another example. Playing in one of the best hitters parks in the league, going 2-7. We need a bat, but I really doubt KW is gonna get one for us.
-
I don't mean to bash the Sox here, but this roster will not bring a world series title. The pitching is there, but you need a complete team.
-
wow, another s***ty offensive game, they're gonna need a lot more tomorrow if they want to salvage a split i really don't like this trend developing. we play a lot of good offenses the rest of the year; our pitchers need run support
-
christ, ive seen about as much of this crap as i can stand...
-
we need furcal, it's like having two posednicks

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) Everett or Konerko, face it guys our run producers are pretty bad.. Konerko , Everett and Rowand. manny and Ortiz alone have more Rbi than them 3! Sigh... never been a Konerko or Rowand fan and Everett just to damn old and we gave away 5 minor leaguers in 2 diff. trades to get him ? I don't think you can bash Everett for one strikeout. He's done so much for us this year. Konerko can suck a fatty though for all I care.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) Brandon McCarthy......your plane is waiting to go to Florida. I hope so... Any news on the Red Sox and what theyre doin? Heh, it would be great to get this deal done today and have Burnett start vs. the Red Sox Sunday, but that better be because we move Contreras back in the rotation, not trade him.

heh, my bad, looked at the time it was posted on the espn.com site... you guys are fast =]

The Story: The Baltimore Orioles on Saturday traded right-handed pitcher Sidney Ponson to San Diego for first baseman Phil Nevin, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports. With Ponson moving to the Padres, the Orioles deal to acquire Florida Marlins right-hander A.J. Burnett has been shelved. A three-way deal with the Orioles and Texas Rangers, which would have sent Burnett to Baltimore, was "killed" by the Orioles this weekend, according to a baseball man familiar with the deal, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reported. So the Marlins are believed to have broken off talks with Baltimore, at least for now, and are back to focusing on offers by the Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. Lowell, who is batting a disappointing .230 with just four homers and 39 RBI, is owed about $21 million through 2007. Ponson was moved to San Diego once he refused a trade to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for left-handed reliever Trever Miller.

ESPN.com report Step up the pressure KW!!!
-
i dunno about pure power hitting... if he's hitting .290 just for power, wouldn't he be another Bonds? He is an upgrade offensively over Rowand. However, I'm not sure how much longer he would last. He's like Thomas; can't expect more than a few years

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) How appropriate if he closes out the Angels in the playoffs? It would be more appropriate if Billy Wagner closed it out.

good pitch

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) DO IT! DO IT! GET TO DA CHOPPA! Burnett is a definite upgrade over El Duque, and when he is on, he is better than Count. His ERA is under four. I think it's obvious that KW needs to make some sort of move before the deadline. We need another arm in the bullpen, and/or another bat or starting pitcher. If we had to give up Marte, we could move Jose to the pen. If we lose Contreras, we should try to get a guy in the pen. I don't necesarilly think that A.J. is the answer, but I do think that we are one or two moves away from being legitimate contenders in the postseason.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:34 AM) That best record in baseball thing only goes so far. It is going to be tough to keep up the kind of baseball we played in the first half. From here on out, it only gets tougher. Our offense is going to need to swing the bats better for the rest of the year if we want to play some postseason ball. Am I worried? Of course not. However, Pitching and defense only get you so far; the offense needs to be there as well.
-
I think the closer it gets to the deadline, the more likely it'll be that we won't have to take lowell. Send them Viz straight up...
-
Wakefield 0-6, 6+ ERA since '99 vs. Chisox I like our chances tomorrow.
-
TK just said on Sportscenter that the O's and Sawks are losing interest in dealing for Burnett. Kurkjian thinks that we could step in and get him before the deadline. It would be nice to add Burnett. Call me crazy, but I woulda rather had Burnett starting in the Bosox series instead of Duque and Count back to back. But hey, maybe it can still happen...
