  1. In this article, Joe Sheehan of BP says the game was lost in the 7th by poor approaches at the plate by AJ, Cintron and BA, against Villone who was on the rocks. Kinda makes one wonder why a Greg Walker wouldn't be advising his hitters to be more patient. Good reading for Sox Talkers.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) Either he's being sarcastic, or this thread is as pathetic as the Brian Anderson for MVP thread from the wknd. Perfect final thought.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) Do YOU want to let a legit MVP canidate walk for 6 mil? MVP? I think you must be dreaming, Tony...
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) with the Teahan-esque slap Nice!
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) And you're not going to improve RF any more then it is for the money. Period. If you want an upgrade, look to the other OF spots, or more specifically, LF, not RF. JD ain't going anywhere. "And you're not going to improve RF any more then it is for the money" Not sure what you're saying here... Do YOU want an upgrade in team speed, and RF "D" ? Can it get better than JD? Love your wack job sentiment, btw.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) So what makes you dislike Jermaine? His 29 homers, 78 RBI's, 1.000 plus OPS, league leading slugging percentage, slightly above average defense, near .400 on base, cheap price tag, quiet mouth, or World Series MVP award from last year? This teams problem stands 60 feet, 6 inches from the plate every game, not in the batters box itself. I don't dislike Jermaine at all! I think he's been a terrific add for the Sox, and almost an even replacement for Maggs as a better team member at a reasonable salary. We both know that JD wasn't the WS MVP last year -- it was Crede and the starters. Jermaine will be 33. I disagree that the's above average OF. He's slowing down, makes some strong plays and butchers others. He's just an average RF'r in a below average OF. As other posters note, he (nor any of the other Sox OFrs that I can recall) haven't thrown out any runners at the plate...Think about how many SOX players have been thrown out! We've seen JDs best days and it's downhill from here. The Sox cannot ignore ANY opportunity to improve OF defense, increase team speed and overall "small ball" offensive execution if we want to remain competitive with the Tigers and Twins in the toughest division in baseball. (Improved pitching will help too... ) We need focus on the team, not just love the players. After 2005 Kenny Williams doesn't have to find cheap players and hope they play beyond their best years. He'll have zero loyalty to past accomplishments and total focus on improving all areas of this team.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) This might be the first time that milkman and I were called blindly-loyal, homer Sox fans. Don't forget self-righteous. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) There is a big difference between diverse opinions and lacking common sense. And the fact you've been a Sox fan since before my dad was born shows great loyalty, but it doesn't make your opinion any less nonsense. Someday you'll grow up, young man.
  8. With all due respect...BITE ME. Soxfan 101 and fellow critics: I've been a Sox fan since the early 60's. Like all you guys, I've.seen alot of baseball. I may have a different perspective than you and a posting manner that challenges the conventional wisdom of the blindly-loyal, self righteous Sox fans who may not be objective enough see a players strengths, weaknesses and impact on the collective capabily of the team. If you can't handle that and need to challenge my team affiliation or mental health, that's your problem, not mine. Frankly, I think a little diverse opinion makes for a more interesting discussion.
  9. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) Why is that? Here's his deal: White Sox | Dye Signs Thu, 9 Dec 2004 09:02:34 -0800 Dye will be paid $4 million in 2005 and $5 million in 2006 with the club holding an option for 2007 at $6 million (with a buyout of $1.15 million). Simple... After this bummer year of homer ball, Kenny will look to improve this team, including getting younger and faster. Although JD hasn't lost much and he's relatively inexpensive, he is on the decline. I'm guessing that the Sox will see his contract as an opportunity to change the profile of this team.
  10. He's just about average in my book...always gives good effort. Has made some excellent plays and disappointed me in several others. He has this loping (he's tall -- 6'4" I think) running style that makes him look slow to the ball. His arm is just OK. I like JD, but I think perhaps this is his last year with us.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) I still want to see Sweeney have 1 more full year in AAA to grow up, maybe add some muscle, and be ready to replace JD after 07. If I recall, Dye's a FA after this year. I think he's done in Chicago. ( Plz correct me if I'm wrong on the contract.)
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 06:03 PM) Time to pull McCarthy. He's been given the chance to work out of his jam, and he hasn't been able to. With our starters pitching so short, don't be surprised if Kennybrings in a Scott Linebrink-type to bridge the gaps.
  13. (Written from the closet) To: ALL PAULIE DEFENDERS From: SadChiSoxFanOptimist in Rock's CLOSET RE: Learned My Lesson Forgive me brothers and sisters for I have SoxTalk sinned. I have been banished into the closet by Rock Raines and suffered worse ignominities from posters for respectfully considering the possibility that Paul Konerko might have value to another team and thereby, bringing us players to improve our team. It was clearly inapprppriate for me to raise such an issue -- even in a manner respectful to Paulie -- violating the unwritten SoxTalk "Thou shalt not consider replacement of Paul Konerko for any reason in any way without risking demeaning attacks" commandment. I've learned my lesson: It cannot get any better than Konerko. I repent. Rock, please release me from my closet prison. SadChiSoxFanOptimist Newest Member of the Konerko For Life At First Base Club
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) Hahahahaha. Go lock yourself in the closet, and dont come out. Nice. Exxxxxxxxxxxxcuuuuuuuuuussssssseeee meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I was merely evaluatiing what I believe is holding this team back -- lack of speed and rally-killing double plays -- thinking about how to fix it. BTW, hope there are no typos here -- it's friggin dark in this damn closet. Rock, can I come out now?
  15. Anyone think there would be a market for Paulie -- perhaps this winter? Aside from his leadership/character and some recent adroit defensive plays, I think that Paul exemplifies what needs to change about this team: He's a slow-footed, HR-focused and rally-killer with a $60 million contract. It hurts to be so negative about such a great guy without whom we'd not be World Champs.
  16. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) In other words, I'd rather have an Ichiro than a Barry Bonds. I'd rather have Ichiro than Thome, Paulie, Dye or anyone we put into LF. That crazy man can hit, run, throw and play killer defense. I'd like 8 Ichiro-type players.
  17. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) A third helping of Sandy Alomar Jr. Can he bring Robbie, too?
  18. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) If we're replacing Pods, I'd much rather have Chone Figgins than Soriano who would probably make this team even more "home-run hitty, 3-run blast or nothing" reliant. At le past Figgins would give us an everyday player that does what Podsednik is supposed to do. I agree 100%...Figgins would add speed, defense versitality. Weren't those (together with great starting/relief pitchinig) the key elements of the formula enabling us to be World Champs? Soriano would give us yet another basher. Essential question: What is the philosophy of this team:ower or pitching & defense? This team needs to get back to doing what made them 2005 World Series Champions.
  19. And again, we couldn't execute what we did best last year -- move runners into scoring position. And we still can't execute a succesful bunt.
