I know that picked as high as he was (95th overall), more has been expected of Brooks. But at least he has quietly done pretty well as a reliever in high-A ball. G 15, IP 18.2, H 21, ER 4, HR 0, BB 7, K 14, ERA: 1.93. I'm sure as a starter he's done, but maybe he'll have a future in the White Sox bullpen.

Phillips went 6 2/3 solid innings and Tom Collaro homered as Charlotte won 6-3. Aardsma earned his 14th Save. Bourgeois (.319): 3-5, R, 2B http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...chraaa_noraaa_1 Gio lead the Barons to a 4-1 win. Mercedes: 1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...hunaax_biraax_1 Warthogs were shutout 5-0 and held to 4 hits. And get this, Javier Castillo had all 4 of them, going 4-4. Ricky Brooks (1.93) has been very effective out of the bullpen: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kinafa_wswafa_1 Kanny, down 3-1 going into the 9th scored 3 times and won 4-3. Texeira (3.69) earned his 16th Save. Lee Cruz homered with Archie Gilbert aboard to give the I's the lead. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kanafx_gboafx_1 Great Falls pounded out 18 hits in their 12-10 win. Marrero, Retherford, Gallagher and Morgan all homered. Gallagher (.335): 1-3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, 3 BB, SS, Greg Paiml (.284) doesn't get talked about much. He's a slick fielder and has been hitting better and better as the season has progressed. Tonight, he went 4-5. Interesting note too on Paiml who played for the Univ. of Alabama, as a teenager he was a batboy, clubhouse assistant and worked on the maintenance crew for the Birmingham Barons. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...grfrok_misrok_1

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) Lots of very raw players on the Bristol squad, several imports from the Dominican and teenagers just out of high school getting their first taste of pro ball. Many of these guys will go to instructional league mid Sept. and that's good, they need instruction. Bobby Thigpen was manager and they never really got rolling there. I wonder if they will stay in Bristol next year, the Appalachian League is a bit wobbly and the White Sox may want to try something different. You're not kidding about wobbly, if you're referring to things from an attendance viewpoint. The Appalachian League attendance for all affiliates are annually amongst the lowest in all of minor league baseball. The Bristol Sox this year drew somewhere around 20,000 averaging 692 per game. I go to games at Orem, UT in the Pioneer League and they regularly draw around 3000 and that's Rookie ball. These attendance stats aren't final but they show just how wobbly the Appalchian League is. http://www.ballparkdigest.com/news/2007/ju...attendance.html

Bristol's season is over and there will be no playoffs for the Sox. Nick Mahin lead the team in hitting at .298, followed by Jordan Cheatham (.287), Jose Martinez (.282), Kent Gerst (.281) and Logan Johnson (.280). Po-Yu Lin lead the woeful pitching staff with a 6-5 record and 3.30 ERA. He whiffed 65 in 62.2 innings. Nevin Griffith pitched in just 8 games, 8.2 inn. 5.19 ERA, .359 BA against. Full team batting and pitching stats. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ibp&cid=557 Most of the other affiliates have only 5-6 games left. Other than Great Falls, I don't think any will be in playoffs.

Well said, Ozzie! I'm (expletive) tired of watching this same old (expletive) every (expletive) day too. I've (expletive) had it with this (expletive). C'mon White Sox! (expletive) turn it around and start showing some (expletive) life out there. As fans, we're (expletive) tired of this (expletive)(expletive).

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) Personally I think the farm system has bottomed out and things are on the way to getting better. Good post. I totally agree, especially about Great Falls. I think things are looking up for sure. On each and every farm team, there are a few guys to get at least somewhat excited about. This years draft, I think, was highly successful. If next years can be equally as good, things will improve even more. There must be teams with worst systems. I think Callis is just taking a shot at the Sox. Like said, he's a f***ing Cub fan.

Is this the worst year in your Soxfandom?
BigEdWalsh replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Has to be 1970. The horrible record (56-106). Boring Don Gutteridge as manager. So few people in the stands I seriously used to try and count people and guess the attendance. When there's less than 1,000 in the park it's pretty damn depressing. I went to a double header where the crowd was something like 693. There was plenty of wondering if the Sox were going to move. Plus, 1970 was on the heels of two previous nearly as crappy years. Ya had to wonder if things would ever improve. -

If I had to choose between Uribe and Vizquel, I'd take Vizquel, even at age 41. That said, there are guys I'd rather have than either of those two. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 12:30 AM) Here's one of MInnesota's draft picks from June pitching in rookie ball: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=518999 So, should I just assume -- even at this level -- he'll be the next Minnesota Twins pitching stud? And I notice he went to Kutztown U. How do they find these guys?!

One thing that impresses me a lot about this guy is that for his still young age, he seems to have good plate discipline and/or a good eye at the plate. Seems to be a good contact hitter. So far this season he has 271 ABs and has struck out only 29 times. He's walked 35 times. He has a decent .362 OBP, up from last year's .305. Francisco's still only 21.

Just to wind things up with the completed games, Great Falls lost 7-6 but in exciting fashion. Trailing by a run at home in the bottom of the 9th, Greg Paiml lead off with a single. C. J. Retherford followed with a double to right but Paiml was nailed at the plate. Speedy Steven Turner ran for Retherford. Mollenhauer grounded out, Turner advancing to 3rd. But, Sanchez grounded out to SS to end the game. Leroy Hunt (3.86) had 3 solid innings of relief: 3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...helrok_grfrok_1 Bristol was shutout 1-0 in the second game of their double-header. They managed but 1 run all day. Infante: (L, 2-3, 4.01): 4 IP, 3 H 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K Logan Johnson: 1-2, 2B http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...brirok_brlrok_2

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) Today, 5 batters in a row, Uribe, Richar, Gonzalez, Owens, Fields. That's just brutal. The highest batting average among the 5 is .242. You get through Thome, Konerko, AJ, and Dye, you have almost a 2 inning breather. That's exactly what I first noticed when I saw the lineup. That's not good, that's AAA.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) Charlotte wins 1-0. Broadway with a gem. 8 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 SO, and the W. Sweeney 1-2 with 2 BB Bourgeois with the game winning homer and rbi in the 8th. Broadway is pitching for Charlotte. No score in the 5th. Whisler is on the mound for Birmingham. Trailing 3-0 in the 4th. Getz is 2-2. The Warthogs will take on Salem. Fautino de los Santos is scheduled to start. Carlos Perez will start for Kanny. Johnnie Lowe will start for Great Falls. Bristol takes on the Burlington Royals.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) Thanks Soxfan. That 76 team was horrid. But, '77 was pretty darn good so maybe there's hope for next year.

Charlotte won 4-3. With the game tied in the bottom of the 9th, Collaro who had doubled, scored on a wild pitch. Haeger: 8 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K Collaro (.323): 2-4, 2 2B, R http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...noraaa_chraaa_1 Birmingham lost 10-5. Egbert with a good start but bullpen was BAD. Egbert: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 11 K http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...monaax_biraax_1 Winston-Salem lost 5-1. Bakker: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 5 K http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...salafa_wswafa_1 Kanny lost 7-2. Shelby (.302): 3-5, R, 3B http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...capafx_kanafx_1 Great Falls got 2 in the 1st and took a 2-0 lead into the 8th but lost 5-2. Moreno: 7 IP, 5 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 7 K http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...helrok_grfrok_1 The way today went for the Sox and most affiliates, it's probably good for Bristol that they had the day off.

Well, ridicule all you want, but I'm positive and excited about the future. I'm excited about guys like Egbert and Gio. Fields and to some degree Richar and Owens. Broadway and Poreda. De Los Santos and Shelby. Retherford, Sanchez and Gallagher. I'm excited that Buehrle is here to stay and Jenks is a premier closer. I'm positive in that Vasquez has improved. I'm happy that Konerko is still here and for that matter, but to a lesser degree, A. J., Garland and Dye too. These are just to name a few reasons I'm not totally down on this team.. On the other hand, I didn't expect at the close of the 2005 season that as soon as 2007 the Sox would be a cellar-dweller. That was unthinkable. I was among many that thought the Sox might be on the verge of something resembling a dynasty. But, I really doubt that the Sox are going to suck for years to come.

If I'm not mistaken, Oney is 21 and wasn't Ozzie the Sox starting SS at 21?

The Barons made a game out of it but lost 4-3. Gio didn't pitch all that bad. Gio: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K Shabala singled to lead off the 7th, spoiling the no-hitter attempt. Great Falls shutout Casper 4-0. Poreda (2-0, 1.24): 5 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 K. He's clearly ready to move up. Mabee: 1 IP, 1 H, 3 K Retherford: 2-4, 2B, HR, 2 R, 1 RBI http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...grfrok_casrok_1 Bristol won game 2, 4-3. Infante: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K K. Gilbert: 2-3, R Oney (.136): 0-3, 2 K http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...jcyrok_brirok_2
