Since I moved to Utah (approx. 2 yrs ago), I've gotten the opportunity to see how people far removed from Chicago view things. People here (where there is no mlb nearby) seem to pick mostly "big name teams" as their favorites. So there are a lot of Yankee and Red Sox fans. There are two Angels minor league affiliates in the area so there are fair number Angels fans. Like anywhere else there are also a fair number of Cub fans. These are the idiots that latch onto them I think for the "cuteness" of being a Cub fan or adoring the "loser". When I first meet people (provided that I'm not wearing my Sox hat) most people hearing that I'm from the Chicago area assume that I'm a Cub fan. That annoys the hell out of me. When I tell that I'm a Sox fan (and I have to say White Sox so that they don't think I'm a Red Sox fan) and that I loathe everything about the Cubs they just don't understand why. I simply tell them that it's very deep-rooted and there's nothing I can do about it. I do hate the Cubs every bit as much as I ever did since the Sox won the Series but pay much less attention to them these days. Not that I used to pay them that much attention, but right now I don't even know how they're doing, much less care. By the way, do they still suck?

I was at the 1970 opening day 12-0 loss to the Twins. What a miserable day! It was noteworthy only for the major league debut of the one and only John "Pineapple" Matias (who went 0-3 with a strikeout). And get this: it was an opening day crowd of 11,473. Ahhhh, those were the days.

Mornings would be best for me but probably not most people, so I understand if its at night. The later the better. A Monday evening would be ideal as that's my night off. But I can easily arrange to get off of work early so any other would night could work just fine too.

I'll sound like a total nut for saying this but on at least 3 different occasions I've seen UFO's. Go ahead and laugh. The first time was in 1967. I was with my mom somewhere near Crystal Lake driving east. Out on the horizon I saw this light looking much like a distant airplane. All of a sudden, it just zoomed straight south and was gone in an instant. My mom says, "Did you see that?!". So, she saw it too. The second time, about 15 years ago, I was with my wife driving very late at night just outside Lake Geneva, WI . Exactly like the other incident we both saw it and both exclaimed, "Did you see that?!". Then, approximately 6 or 7 years ago, I had a security job in Lake Geneva where I sat in a patrol car and watched a parking lot from midnight until six in the morning. I spent a lot of time star gazing and I saw some peculiar things. One night in particular, I saw not that far away, a light that seemed to be a helicopter. It was only maybe 100 yards away. I unrolled the car window and didn't hear a sound. After a few seconds the "thing" went shooting overhead and disappeared. It never made a sound. When I tell people about this stuff, which isn't very often, people think I'm nuts or making this up. Oh well, who cares? I know what I saw. Just for the record too. I grew up in a very old huge house in Elmhurst. I heard things often and was with a few friends once on the front porch when we all saw this guy who kinda looked like a bum. He was just walking through the yard and suddenly he wasn't there. It was like he walked behind a tree and vanished. It was real weird. And again, I wasn't the only one who witnessed this. We (my family) would often hear footsteps on the front porch but no one would be there when you opened the door. My dad said he saw people on the front porch on several occasions dressed in like early 1900's clothing. That house was totally creepy and very definately haunted. So, yeah, I believe in ghosts too.

I hate both for sure, but seeing as I have a skin condition which does not enable me to sweat, I'll gladly take the most frigid cold weather over heat and humidity any time. I went to a Sunday afternoon Sox game a few years ago and it was like the hottest day of the summer. Before the game even started I ended up in the Sox' emergency room in the bowels of the Cell. I was laying on a little cot with cold towels on my head and sipping ice water watching the game on TV when the game started. I forget who the Sox were playing that day but the Sox won big due in large part to the huge 1st inning they had which I didn't get to witness live. I remember thinking that I might die that day and thought what better place to die than at the Cell. So I was strangely content.
