  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 07:55 AM) Peavy cleared up a spot on the 40-man, but they still need to make a move on the 25-man if Manny is to play today. Rosters expand tommorrow so then it won't matter. Rosters don't expand until September 1st, right, and don't the Sox need to have him on the roster for him to be part of a playoff roster?
  2. Who's going away from the roster? Kotsay is making comments like he's secure, and Lillibridge is still needed (although they could play Teahan at 2B).
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) He's the best hitter on the team. He'll bat third. I agree he can still hit, but I prefer him in the #5 spot. If he starts raking, then move him on up.
  4. The Sox would owe the remaining salary for this season, but what about the deferred money? Also on the hook for that?
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) Any chance he plays for us tomorrow? I sure hope so. The Sox need him for every game possible.
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Why? He's not the Manny Ramirez of a few years ago. He's just back from the DL, and he hasn't had a great season. By no means am I against this move, I just don't see him displacing Rios and Konerko in the 3/4 spots.
  7. 1) Manny will NOT be batting 3rd or 4th for the White Sox. It will be 5th or 6th in the order. 2) I would expect Kotsay to be gone, maybe they hide on him on the DL. Lillibridge still is needed for backup IF and a pinch runner. 3) My guess is that this probably won't impact the Sox.. They have reverted back to a mediocre team, and will be 4 or 5 games back heading into September with 6 or 7 still remaining against Boston.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) ESPN reporting both put on the DL The season is clearly on life support. The offense and starting pitching are going to have to carry this team for the next 2 weeks while both are out. Hopefully, they are ready to come back after 15 days and are ready for the stretch, but if the Sox don't get 7 innings out of these guys consistently, the Sox are going to fall to the edges of playoff contention quickly.
  9. The White Sox are probably looking at 3-3 in the next 6 games (2-1 vs Baltimore, 1-2 vs NY), but that's an optimistic viewpoint given the struggles of the bullpen to hold any lead, and the lack of clutch hitting.
  10. Outside of the bullpen in the Detroit series (specifcally Putz), I don't think the White Sox played bad in that series. They had a 2-1 lead in the 9th inning on Sunday and a 7-5 lead in the 7th (and I believe 7-6 in the 8th). You can't ask for more than to have a lead in the late innings. If one of the best relievers on the club suddenly falls apart, that's just bad luck/timing.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) I'm a huge KW supporter, but I will never understand what the f*** he was thinking here. The idea of using a bad offensive player as your primary DH is just so illogical. We've been basically a man down all season offensively and will continue to be down one if we make the postseason. The most irritating part is that DH should be the easiest spot in the lineup to fill with average production but KW couldn't find a single way to do that over the past 8-9 months. I never thought I'd say it, but if they can't land a bat via the waiver wire, do they consider Jermaine Dye for the last month of the year? My guess is that they won't because he hasn't played this year, and was brutal in the 2nd half of last season.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) I wonder, if you're the Rays GM, and you're on the phone with a guy, and he makes a demand like that in a trade, how hard is it to respond respectfully, rather than bursting into laughter? Agree, the whole point that teams in contention make trades is to strengthen their team (at the expense of their minor league system in most cases), not create another significant hole.
  13. QUOTE (SoxnGiants @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) Sue seems like Washington is doing a ton of "negotiating" through the press (such as including Detroit in the latest rumor). I think he's a member of the Whitesox later today. Washington will budge. JimBowdenXMFOX Giants are NOT involved in Dunn....just CWS, TB and DET.....CWS inquired about Manny Ramirez as alternative...Dodgers seriously considering
  14. Heyman on MLB Network still not completely ruling out Ramirez to the White Sox.
  15. Hilarious. Heyman on MLB Network saying that the Sox now won't trade Jackson to Washington, and the Nationals are asking for Beckham or Alexi Ramirez instead.
  16. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) WOw, for 2 reasons: 1) that would hve been a world shocker that Cowley was talking about. This also shows KW is looking for an IMPACT bat; whether it is lefty or righty.2) why in the HELL would the dodgers say no, I don't know the package of prospects but they are beyond broke and it would have been a perfect chance to get out under mannys contract. Finally, this shows we are going for it and money is not a worry. Rosenthal on MLB network, we may see a manny deal in august. Says he will clear waivers and dodgers want to see what he has when he gets back from the DL. Cowley is already saying that this was his "shocker" story, of which he know of no names at the time he was spreading this rumor.
  17. jonmorosi #WhiteSox asked the #Dodgers about Manny -- and were rejected, sources tell FOXSports.com
  18. Ken_Rosenthal Expect the unexpected today. Source says #Nationals getting late interest from new teams on Dunn - "longshots" being explored
  19. jaysonst Now that #Rays have added bullpen arm (& payroll), looks unlikely they'll add bat today. Not pursuing any bat out there aggressively #trades
  20. SI_JonHeyman easy prediction, chisox will get a hitter, 1 way or other, whether its dunn or someone else SI_JonHeyman chisox are acting like edwin jackson is likely staying now. but #nats may love him more
  21. SI_JonHeyman todays early predictions: dunn (#chisox), bautista (giants), lilly (dodgers), berkman (yankees - that 1 is easy)
  22. scottmerkin Williams confirms Berkman used his no-trade veto to nix a potential White Sox deal: "I can't deny the truth. It is what it is" via e-mail.
  23. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) Cowley was just on Boers and Bernstein saying that KW is still working on something huge and totally under the radar. Bernstein was trying to figure out who that could possibly be, and mentioned this scenario: Edwin Jackson would go to the Nationals, Dunn to the Rays, and Carl Crawford to the White Sox. Talk about a sleeper... If Kenny Williams landed Carl Crawford, I'd smack anyone who ever said anything bad about him ever again. My initial reaction is that Cowley could be totally talking out of his ass, and that there's nothing big or new to report other than the rumors that every other national writer is speculating on, and then tomorrow when this "mystery trade" doesn't happen, Cowley just says that it didn't piece together. How could he know that Williams is working on something "huge" without having any idea of what it is?
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Mark Kotsay will NOT be DFA'd. He won't. I'd prefer the Sox keep him as a left handed pinch hitter, but I wouldn't hold off on making a trade if his roster spot is needed.
  25. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) Apparently Cooper likes Jackson - @cst_sox - Cooper has liked Jackson for awhile - so flipping the pitcher is by no means the end game. Think "Thornton Project II." Who is @cst_sox? reliable?
