QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) Pretty funny listening to Boers and Bernstein rip on Peavy today relating to his request for more intensity. I'm rather sick of the Peavy ripping. Bernstein doesn't like him because he's a Southerner.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) My guess is Juan is either gone next year or is the 4th OF'er. So Viciedo moves to right and CQ to left. Trade CQ and you just open up another hole IMO I believe that Pierre is a free agent next year so you could argue that the Sox will simply move Quentin to LF and promote Viceido to RF. There's also the possiblity that the Sox will look to unload Qunetin for younger talent as well - he's due for more money and the Sox haven't been able to work out a long term deal. They could go with a platoon in LF with De Aza/Lillibridge to save money there though the production (or lack of) would be a major question.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:14 AM) It's worth noting that Steve Stone floated the idea of trading CQ to Atlanta on the Score just now. Such a trade doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense IMO but Steve Stone doesn't just say things to say them. He probably read it on the Internet as well. Trading Quentin for next season probably does make sense so that Viceido can move into RF. Trading him during the season doesn't make as much sense - as streaky as he is, he's still one of our best offensive players.

Through 1/2 a season, the offense has sucked. Unfortunately, it's hard to picture much changing. Dunn is going to continue getting the DH at-bats. Pierre has played well in his last 10 days so that probably gives him another 2 weeks to play himself out of anything, and, even if he hits .150 in the next 2 weeks, it still seems unlikely that Guillen would pull the plug. They can try to get more offense out of 3B by giving Morel an occasional day off, but that already happens with Teahan. I don't see anything significant happening barring an injury. They have been patience in sticking with a bad offense, and they are now going to hold firm that some of these guys (Rios, Dunn, Pierre, Beckham and even Quentin who is hot and cold) are going to contribute at a higher rate in the 2nd half of the season.

Does Jackson Get Dealt Before Deadline No Matter What?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) I just can't see KW giving up Hudson for 1+ year of Jackson, it would drive him nuts. I think Jackson gets dealt for a prospect. Now, what type of prospect, I don't know. Wandy Rodriguez is the best starter I've heard who might be available. Jeremy Guthrie too .... I don't know that they will get anyone's A level prospect, but I think it's possible to get a B level prospect in return for Jackson. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 11:48 AM) Edwin Jackson won't get traded and if he was on the block who and what do yo ask i return for the guy? And don't give me the dumping salary line either please, He probably won't be traded, but I would understand if the White Sox did move him the 31st of this month. In return, I'd want the best available minor league prospect (perhaps a young player who has already broken into the majors). The Sox wouldn't necessarily be dumping him because of salary although that would be a benefit of a trade with 2 months left in the season. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 03:39 AM) Not only Peavy, but you have to wonder about Danks' oblique and Humber's fortune not continuing forever. Right now, it's pretty far from unclear whether they'd even risk offering arbitration for the possibility of a Type B pick. I don't think many Sox fans would be too comfortable with the idea that "accidentally" retaining Jackson for 2012 meant they had to give up Buehrle or Danks. With Boras as his agent, you'd think he should be able to get more than $8.5 million from another team, but I'm not sure which team that would be...certainly not with how he's pitched the last couple of months. Of course, it all depends on what the current organizational thinking on Sale is, too. I don't think there's any chance that Jackson is back next season unless he becomes Cy Young in the 2nd half of the season. For next season, I still think they are going to resign Buerhle to go with Danks, Floyd, Humber (assuming he's able to remain a solid option) and Peavy with Sale possibly taking a starting role if the Sox decide to move Danks or Floyd in the off-season which I'm not sure they'd do if they are concerned about Peavy's health and Humber having a repeat season. -

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 05:52 AM) Depending on where things stand at the trade deadline, and the Sox are right in it, I'd like to see him, or someone dealt for Scott Rolen. Their salaries match up and even though Morel has been ok, I'd much rather have Rolen and his glove, bat, and attitude in a pennant race. It's not a knock on Morel but Rolen brings alot more to the table. I think he'd be a perfect fit for the Sox. If the White Sox trade Jackson, it's got to be a for a young player. If the player is already contributing in the majors that's ok, but I don't want an aging veteran - the whole idea of trading Jackson is that a team desperate for another starter (and I have to think Jackson would be on the better options on the market) is to acquire the best available prospect to help for the future. Ideally, that prospect is another pitching prospect, but I'm not going to turn down an good offensive prospect. -

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 08:26 AM) That's just it. Short of a major hole in the lineup due to injury, it's really hard to see what the Sox could get from trading Jackson that would help the team win this season. I don't think they would make a trade like this until July 31st so they would only have to go 2 months with the current 5 starters, and could potentially go to a 4 man rotation in September if Peavy were to get sidelined again. They also wouldn't trade Jackson unless Peavy finishes July healthy and with the 6 man rotation, the White Sox could argue that the rotation is actually more prepared for success down the stretch due to the extra rest from the 6 man rotation along with getting the remaining 5 starters (post Jackson) back in a regular rhythm. As I said before, though, I think the Sox would only pull the trigger on a trade like this if they continue to stay about where they are now, about .500, maybe 5 games back. -
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) Quentin made the ASG but not konerko? I'm not outraged by this at all - it's just a numbers game. Clearly, Konerko deserved to be on the roster, but there's 4 other 1B off the top of my head with damn good numbers. Somebody had to go, and it isn't going to be fair.

If Jake Peavy stays healthy, I can definitely see Edwin Jackson being dealt, but that probably also comes down to the team's standing in the division and Jackson's performance. If he suddenly becomes dominant over the next 2 months, they will probably ride his hot pitching and keep him. If the Sox continue to hang around .500, stay about 5 games back, I could Williams moving him for the best available prospect to help next season and he can still claim he's making the current team better by returning to a normal five man rotation. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) Pierre is an everyday player whether fans like it or not. He'll be an everyday player the rest of the season and maybe next season with the Marlins. I'm not sure he'll continue to be an everyday player if he continues to struggle. His time is coming, but Guillen is giving him every last opportunity to stay in the lineup.

Marlins interested in Ozzie Guillen (again)

Something like this wouldn't happen until the off-season. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) Pierre LF, Vizquel 2B, Ramirez SS, Konerko 1B, Dunn RF, Rios CF, Pierzynski C, Teahen 3B, Humber P Thats a god awful defensive team. They'd better hit the damn ball today.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 08:20 PM) Side of his head, up and to the rear of his left ear. How did that not appear to hurt? He got hit by a line drive in the head, and it didn't appear to have had any impact - WTF?

Question - should the White Sox trade Edwin Jackson by the trade deadline if they continue to sort of hang around, but not really contend (if they hover below the .500 mark)? He's likely to walk away at the end of the season considering he's making around $8 or $9 million a season, and the White Sox are unlikely to resign him given that Chris Sale is probably going to join the rotation to complement Danks, Floyd, Humber and Peavy. I haven't even mentioned Buehrle because I still feel that they are going to work something out with him, which could put Danks or Floyd on the block in the off-season, but that's another conversation. If they do look to move Jackson, what are they looking for? Just the best availble minor league talent OR a guy who has MLB experience who is under contract? If I were in control, it would have to be for a good prospect (pitching preferably).

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 12:51 AM) Honestly, and this includes me, I think too much is being made of Viciedo not being up yet. Yes, he should definitely be here. That's a no-brainer. But he's not going to save this offense. Rios, Dunn, AJ, Beckham and Morel are not going to start hitting because Dayan is in the lineup. I don't think Pujols can save this lineup right now. Even the most pessimistic poster could not have predicted that on June 18th we'd have this many Rafael Belliard (the worst hitter I've ever seen) wannabees. Greg Walker needs to come out and have a press conference and explain this s***. They owe us that much. Rios? Are you serious? He is TERRIBLE. Beckham? WTF happened to this guy? Morel? Where's all this gap power he was supposed to have? True, it doesn't really matter if Dunn and Rios (and others) don't carry their worth, but this team could use another bat in the middle of the order and maybe Viceido is that guy.
-
Guillen will eventually run out of patience with Pierre as this team flounders under .500. It's clearly not all his fault, but he's easily replacable. I think we're going to continue to see Pierre for the next 10 days or so, but around July, it's time to cut the chord, and try to make one of the few moves that can possibly help.

QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 10:18 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=6662208 Well, I think the guy really wants to help in whatever way he can. Maybe if he's willing to also take a $10-12 million pay cut, I can agree to this awful idea.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) Ah okay thanks. It would be cool to go down there and watch games on the big screen with sound and all. And pay ball park prices for beer? Pass for me. Nice place, but way too expensive.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) Apparently PK is pretty sore today. Doubtful for tonight, possible for tomorrow. Not surprising to hear, no matter how minor the surgury was. I'd be surprised if he plays a full game this weekend, perhaps, a pinch hit appearance on Sunday if that. The White Sox are going to be cautious, no reason not to be.
