  1. Overall, this trade shouldn't have a major impact, as we are talking about a player will will get limited at bats, and probably won't play more than once a week. Saying that, I'm just not comfortable with Alomar Jr as my backup catcher, despite how bad Widger was. Hopefully, Alomar Jr will play a lot younger for the next few months, and surprise when he does play so we'll have to just see.
  2. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) Not sure if any of you guys listened to the Levine and Defalco show this morning. But they interviewed KW and he Bruce jokingly said, so Kenny we can expect us to announce that the Sox acquire Soriano next weekend? Kenny said "No, the trade im going to make would be a lot BIGGER than that" Is there a possible blockbuster waiting to happen? D-train? Cabrera? Soriano and D-train? Hmmm is KW just blowing smoke? I didn't hear the interview, but that sounds like was being sarcastic.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) This one is sort of a head scratcher, but with the comments Williams made, it sounds like there was a big push from a few of the coaches to not only make a change, but specifically get Alomar in here. Sounds like there is some behind the scenes stuff we dont really know, and probably wont find out... I think we need to put the focus on the starting pitcher's performance, and not the backup catcher....All this stuff about lack of game preparation, maybe our catchers would look better if our starting pitching started throwing how we expected them to throw....kind of like Garland today.
  4. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) I just want someone, I don't care who, to talk to the team and inform them that if they don't wake the fish up right now, they will miss the playoffs. You don't think they know they need to play better ? It's a slump. Should we be happy that they're slumping ? Of course not, but they happen. I still believe!
  5. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) Blalock is horrible against lefties. I'm not doubting that, the numbers are what they are....I've just seen Cotts come into games too often, and just contribute to the other team's inning before settling down. He got out of the inning tonight though - nice job Cotts!
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Good call Ozzie. Put in Cotts to get Blalock out and stop the bleeding. If Cotts follows his season long pattern, he'll give up a hit or two, to allow the men on base to score before getting out of the inning - and his ERA will actually lower.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) Isn't Jenks ERA now like 8 this month? His fastball has been slower for a while now. It's more like 96 mph than the 98-99. Jenks hasn't been good in non-save situations....I know he got roughed up in a game that the Sox were already losing, a week ago vs. the Yankees.
  8. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 08:55 PM) Your excuse book is a large one. I still believe this is just a blip on the radar - we'll turn this around, it just isn't happening right now for the White Sox, whether you talk about starting pitching (obviously Garcia pitched well tonight), relief pitching or the hitting. An overall team effort this slump is, and this team is too good to stay down for long.
  9. When you give Michael Young the chance to beat you after walk somebody, you're asking for it....I guess it was only a matter of time before Bobby Jenks started contributing to this losing streak, after all, everyone else is. And this game is OVER.....
  10. We're not taking on Luis Gonzalez and his declining numbers, not to mention high salary. Where would he play ? Sorry, Barry Rozner is way off on this one.
  11. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) no problem peta parka
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) If you're going to attack Javier, at least spell his name right. I didn't know that we had a Vacquez on our roster. Get over it. I am so upset I can't spell the bum's name.
  13. Lots of talent...no return on it. Hopefully, the White Sox bats can come alive and save his ass again. That is all, carry on.
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 01:29 AM) Or Geoff Blum Afterall, Blum was acquired mid-season, whereas Thome was acquired in the offseason. Good point - I was more referring to Kenny's desire to get better with the big move for Thome, even after they won the World Series. As for this trade deadline, I'd be surprised if the Sox didn't find some middle reliever to help out.
  15. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) I dont think anyone major gets dealt. This is more or less the same team that won it all last year and I think KW is gonna let em make their run at it again without anymore moves. If we somehow fail to make the playoffs or have an early exit though you can look for some offseason moves. I think, WS winners or not, Kenny will be on the move again for more help like he did with Thome.
  16. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) This is the only post I read in this whole thread and it sums up everything perfectly. While that may be the true, picking the White Sox pitching staff wasn't one of the options....I would just hate to be down by a game or two in September and have to face Liriano and Santana back to back.
  17. The team you have to fear the most is the Twins - if you are facing both Liriano and Santana in the same series. If that's not happening, the Twins don't really scare me.
  18. I voted none because.... If we trade Freddy Garcia or Javier Vacquez, it had better be for two good middle relievers because Brandon McCarthy would have to move into the rotation. Although McCarthy will become a starting pitcher next season, for at least this season, he brings a lot of flexibility to the bullpen, being able to pitch more than 1-2 innings, and also as a setup man from time to time. I don't want to lose that. Yes, Vazquez and Garcia, who are really our end of the rotation starters for now with Garland stepping up have struggled, but with our offense, and their ability to hopefully turn things around, I still believe they're going to hang in there, and give us innings, and more importantly, wins, down the stretch. I like the way the bullpen is coming together, Jenks closing the door, Cotts and Thorton from the left side, and McCarthy/Riske from the right side. Can it get better ? Absolutely - if Cotts (whose ERA has to be the most deceiving ERA on the staff) stops coming up into games, and giving up big hits with men already on base (and not counting against his ERA). We do still need one more veteran middle reliever, preferable a right hander, but I'll take anyone of quality right now. I do think we will be in the playoffs, meaning that Vazquez is likely to be in the bullpen as well.....
  19. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) Nuke, have you read the article in question? Does it matter that the NYTimes couldn't find anything illegal in their disclosure of this information ? The point is that Democrats and Republicans were in the know on this secret program, there was no issue over the legality of it, and it was a tool in the War on Terror that can no longer be used because the NYTimes decided that everyone should know about it. I'm not suggesting that we should restrict the freedom of press. I am simply upset that the NYTimes used such poor judgment. Why release it if it's a legal program that both sides of the aisle were on board with ? What I want to know is who the leakers are.....This can't be tolerated.
  20. I say go after him....If Politte can't get his act together, Hernandez can take his innings.
  21. He doesn't seem to have much composure on the mound...I've seen it now in a few other starts where things are going ok for him for a few innings, one bad pitch, and he just falls apart mentally on the mound...
  22. If the Sox were to go after Smoltz, they would have to put a starting pitcher into the deal....and Atlanta would have to be able to take on salary - which I doubt they'd do considering if they are serious about dealing him, other teams would probably be offering prospects.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 08:17 AM) I've always thought CSN has been very fair in it's coverage, if not more biased towards the White Sox. I don't watch ESPN anymore, I only watch CSN. Even Chicago Tribune Live has a lot of good Sox coverage. They call it like it is. Sox are going to make the playoffs, they're making a run for another World Series, they deserve coverage. The Cubs suck, they're almost in last place, and even if all their guys return from injuries they're still a 3rd place team at best. That's all you can ask for, now why can't other media outlets do the same? They call it like it is ? Maybe they do most of the time, but they clearly dropped the ball here. Somebody made a decision not to cover this. Why ? I have no idea. It was THE STORY of a game that was over early for the White Sox.
  24. The Sox still view Brian Anderson as their long-term solution in center. Rather than acquire a big name like Hunter, they could seek a right-handed platoon partner for Rob Mackowiak — someone like the Phillies' Shane Victorino, a switch-hitter, or Orioles' Luis Matos ...
  25. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Quotes from Whitesox.com Personally I think he should shut his mouth and throw the ball better. You aren't throwing the ball well, so man up and do better. Quit being a crybaby. Exactly. If Garland pitches better, he won't hear the comments critical of his performance. Quite a concept, huh ?
