  1. I think Kenny Williams is still watching a movie in his hotel room....
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) I get the feeling nothing Is gonna happen. Especially if we're banking on the White Sox making another move... It's funny, people totally forget we got MacDougle just a few days ago.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Hawkins would make zero sense. I would rather have Bmac or Riske pitching in front of him out of the pen. Maybe Cooper recognized something in tapes and think he can be fixed, he's had a good track record with bullpen guys. It seems like Bowden's price for Soriano is not going to be met, so it will be interesting to see if he just holds on to him or takes a lesser offer Hawkins also got put on the bereavement list yesterday as well...If the White Sox wanted Hawkins, they can probably get him very cheap.
  4. Any link to the August Wallpaper ?
  5. QUOTE(SadChiSoxFanOptimist @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Anyone think there would be a market for Paulie -- perhaps this winter? Aside from his leadership/character and some recent adroit defensive plays, I think that Paul exemplifies what needs to change about this team: He's a slow-footed, HR-focused and rally-killer with a $60 million contract. It hurts to be so negative about such a great guy without whom we'd not be World Champs. Have another beer!
  6. QUOTE(G&T @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) I know, I've read that too, but there's nothing that indicates to me that KW wants to take any chances and I don't blame him. In the Tribune today it says that Fields has been in the outfield a little bit, but won't get any real work until next year. I'd look for a multiyear offer this off season for Crede. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I think that the White Sox will make a mulityear offer this off-season to Crede. If the talks don't go anywhere, then Williams may have a decision to make as Boras' players will enter free agency the following season.
  7. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) I can't remember where I heard this, but Crede insisted that Boras wouldn't ruin negotiations between him and the White Sox. Isn't Uribe a Boras client as well? We signed him to a contract extension, so it can be done. We can only hope....
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 10:20 AM) Why do people think we'd get more for Fields than just Linebrink? Probably because he's a middle reliever.... I agree with you though; I think Linebrink would be about it. Middle relievers are in high demand. Personally, I wouldn't trade for anymore relievers, and really, I think this is our pitching staff for the rest of the season. I like the MacDougle pickup....Cotts/Thorton/MacDougle/McCarthy plus Jenks is a pretty solid 5 options to go with, and Ozzie does like to pitch his starters 6+ innings usually.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Lackey might be the best of the bunch. He's one of 4 pitchers in baseball to have under a 3 ERA from last year's ASB to this year's ASB. How old is Lackey ? I don't think he's "young" anymore - I would think that Ervin Santana or Jered Weaver would be more likely targets. Not to mention that Lackey is their top starter...I don't think he's going anywhere.
  10. QUOTE(G&T @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) Fields is KW's only bargaining chip on Crede. If Fields goes, Boras can rip the Sox for everything they're worth. What adds to this thought is that Fields hasn't been moved to left field, despite a relative need for a left fielder. I think KW is wary of negotiating with Boras, and doesn't want to get left in the cold if things go wrong. Very true - I think Crede's future could be determined on what happens (or doesn't happen) with Fields.
  11. Regardless of this deal, it appears the White Sox are unwilling to move Josh Fields. What does this say about the future of Joe Crede ??? With Scott Boras as Crede's agent, and Fields the top positional prospect in the minors, I get the impression that Kenny Williams may do, in the off-season, what he did with Contreras/Garland - offer a 3-4 year extension, and see if he takes it; otherwise, his future is in doubt.
  12. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 06:53 AM) Lifetime numbers: Lieber - 4.26 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 4:1 K:BB Ratio Garcia - 4.01 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 2:1 K:BB Ratio Vazquez - 4.35 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 3:1 K:BB Ratio I guess they all suck. You obviously don't factor in the salaries of Abreu and Lieber ???? My understanding is that the Phillies would trade those players to the Yankees as a salary dump to have more financial flexibility.
  13. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) I want this deal so bad, but I'm not holding my breath. Don't hold your breath waiting for Barry Zito to come to the White Sox.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) I think it lowers the bar. The Brewers took on salary, gave up a potential prospect, and gave up Lee, without getting a single prospect in return. They took on 1 guy who's been decent and 2 guys who have struggled. That'd be like us giving up, I dunno, Politte, Podsednik, and maybe Mackowiak or something like that. I respectfully disagree - Washington and Milwaukee are looking for two totally different returns....Milwaukee wanted major league ready contributors, and Washington seems willing to take on high level prospects. Milwaukee is trying to stay competitive, and add some pieces...Mench is not a bad player, and if they can get Cordero on track, this will be a very good trade, considering that Lee would have left the Brewers after the season. Obviously, for this trade to worth it for Milwaukee, Cordero has to come through, but the Nationals want young players so there's no real comparison. QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) I actually was not rephasing it the way i wanted to the report itself stated: - Sources have indicated to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney that the Tigers are willing to include right-handed pitching prospect Humberto Sanchez in a trade with the Nationals for Alfonso Soriano. " Not that they are leaning towards including him. If this is true, I'm not sure what Washington is waiting for.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) The Newark Stark Ledger pretty much repeats my message; I'm not sure that the Lee trade can be compared to what the Nationals are asking for in return for Soriano. For Lee, the Brewers are receiving major league players, for Soriano, the Nationals are asking for prospects..
  16. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) I respect Tim. He admitted that he made a mistake which I can't really blame him for making. He usually doesn't report crap. If I had to guess though, this trade rumor came from the White Sox side. Buster Olney, though only speculating, believes it was leaked by Washington....
  17. Carlos Lee isn't going to be traded to the White Sox...
  18. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) The only guys i'll believe when they say something are Rosenthal and Gammons. Other than that ill wait till the deal is done. I respect both a great deal....Really, though, even though most of the rumors we hear about never happen, it's fun to hear the possibilites, and this will, for the most part, be over in few days, so strap it down, and enjoy!
  19. Being 8.5 games out of 1st, I'm more focused on the wild card at this point. Saying that, the division race is not over yet - With 10 games vs the Tigers, obviously the White Sox have to play well to close that gap. Being very optimistic, let's say the White Sox can somehow win 7 of the remaining 10 games, that cuts the lead in 1/2 - the rest will have to made up with their other opponents. Back to the wildcard though - we have two teams, Minny and NYY, right with us - let's get into good playoff position, and then worry about the division.
  20. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) this is getting frustrated instead of bunting camp, ozzie needs a smartball camp to get the team back You must be really missing it....It's been gone for quite a long time now, dating back to the 2nd half of last season. When the White Sox hit HR's, they usually win. It's not happening right now because most of them are solo shots. When guys get on base again ahead of the HR's, runs will be on the board, and the White Sox will be back in the win column. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) I think sometimes people forget how bad our offense was last year. One of the reason small ball seemed to help us win games is because it was the only way that team could score. I think sometimes people forget how bad our offense was last year. One of the reason small ball seemed to help us win games is because it was the only way that team could score. Do people not remember the pathetic swings we took against B. Backe in Game 4 of the World Series? How about how we went about 8 innings in Game 3 of the WS without a run? To add to this, I think people forget how good our pitching was last season. The offense really wasn't that good, but they didn't have to be with the pitching hold teams down. This year, the pitching has been bad, and the offense very good with the added pop. Now, everyone is slumping in the lineup at the same time, the pitching continues to be wobbly, and we're losing games right now. Once the lineup gets going again, and it will soon, the Sox will return to winning games. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 07:32 AM) EXACTLY. I was thinking the same thing when reading this thread. This team is not that different then last year. BA instead of ARow, and Javy instead of El Duque. Now the bullpen is different, but that's not the issue right now. It's the one inning brainfarts by our (starting) pitching staff and the swing for the fences mentality at the plate instead of just trying to get on base. Those are mental brainfarts, something that this team right now can't seem to overcome. In the 2nd half of last season, and into the playoffs, the White Sox were hitting HR's to win games....Nothing has changed this season. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) You're right. Pods, Ozuna, and Cintron are "slowish power hitters." 2 of the 3 players you mention are bench players. What was your point again ?
  21. The White Sox were slumping before the Soriano rumors came up, and even if they were sick of answering questions about potential trades, I don't think Konerko (or any other player) is thinking about these things when he's playing. The White Sox are slumping. That's it....On top of that, they are playing good teams who are hot as hell. That's never a good combination.
  22. From Teddy Greinstein's article in Friday's (07/28) Tribune: Extremely close? Ozzie Guillen is extremely close to his sons. U.S. Cellular Field is extremely close to the footprint of the old Comiskey Park. Chicago is extremely close to its next heat wave. But unfortunately for ESPN's Tim Kurkjian—and, perhaps, White Sox fans—"extremely close" no longer applies to the team's prospects for snagging Alfonso Soriano in a trade. Kurkjian uttered those words Monday. Now he wishes he hadn't. "I felt comfortable that the White Sox were serious players [for Soriano], even if just for a day," Kurkjian said Thursday. "But if I had to do it again, I would have worded it as serious interest, not extremely close." Kurkjian's a terrific reporter, and he has been covering baseball for 25 years. But even he hates the countdown to the July 31 trading deadline. "I don't sleep well this time of year," he said. "It's very, very uneasy." One of the challenges is figuring out which sources to trust. "There's so much misinformation out there," he said. "You get something from a general manager and then call another GM with that piece of information, and he says: 'Where did you get that? It's not even close.'" When a source told him the Sox were on the verge of landing Soriano from Washington, Kurkjian filed a television report that ESPN.com picked up. "I think what [the report] did was establish that the Sox were indeed seriously interested, which I don't think had been out there," Kurkjian said. "But clearly my source took it too far, and I did too." Kurkjian, who no longer believes the deal will be completed, fears his source might have been using him in an effort to boost Soriano's value. For example, say the Tigers and Sox are interested in Soriano. If the Tigers believe the Sox are close to landing him, they might improve their offer. That would benefit both the Nationals and the Sox. "It's a really, really bad feeling to think that someone you're dealing with is telling you something just to force another team to do something," Kurkjian said. "But it happens every day." Kurkjian quickly rebounded after the Soriano story. He broke the news that the Sox had acquired Kansas City reliever Mike MacDougal. "At least I had that right," he said.
  23. I actually feel like the end of this slump may be near after tonight's 4-3 loss...they showed a bit of life, and even though they still aren't scoring runs without the home run, they started getting a few hits. For some strange reason, I don't feel as negative as I did last night.
  24. The local ESPN update says, according to Bruce Levine, that a trade for Soriano could still happen if the Nationals accept a package that includes Lance Broadway.
  25. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) Nothing really new. Offman just reported if we were to acquire Soriano we'd trade him for more pitching help. Ofman said that we could trade him for other parts.... Ofman knows nothing more that we do - he has said over the last day that we could keep him or trade him, and that the trade could still far apart. Guess he covers all the possibilities for us.
