Buehrle Fest
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) I just can't see that being a big deal... how would THAT be the piece that holds this up. This has to be bunk info. Not if it was for the entire contract. That is the only way I can see that being an issue. Especially since they gave one year NTC's out before.

Buehrle Fest
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) That was probably stated prior to last night. Anyone else think that they have to trade him prior to Monday night now? When's Floyd's next start supposed to be? Floyd pitched on the 26th and would be due to pitch again Sunday in Pawtucket. What is interesting is the Knights don't have a scheduled pitcher yet for tonight's game, when based on the normal schedule, it would be Phillips.

Buehrle Fest
This makes me sick. He has been one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball since he came up. According to VORP ratings he has been rated as one of the top 18 pitchers in baseball in 5 of the last 7 years, and a top 10 pitcher in 3 of those years. 2001: 8 2002: 10 2003: 59 2004: 12 2005: 9 2006: 155 2007: 18 4/56 is a steal for someone like him. LHP's who throws200 IP every year do not grow on freakin trees. It is going to be really hard to watch the Sox if this doesn't go thru. My only hope is JR gets involved and makes it happen ala Konerko.

Official Why Not Thread
This team is closer to the 1st pick in the draft than they are to 3rd place in the Division.

White Sox vs. Royals, 6/29/07 (L)
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) If this was KW's plan, it's going to backfire on him big time. I had a feeling this might be happening when they made it public that Hahn was going to Tampa.I hope that is not the case, but I had that in the back of my mind the whole time. After KW had said in the past that he would keep talks about Buehrle quiet and that he would not discuss extensions during the season, this whole thing seemed out of place. The next SoxFest should be really entertaining if Buehrle is traded.

The Sox are due for an 8 run 9th inning rally.

White Sox vs. Royals, 6/29/07 (L)
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:27 PM) I've seen some impressive feats this year, but leaving a starting pitcher in the game 4 batters too long might top the list. I don't care if they win or lose right now, but Ozzie leaving Contreras in to die is just f***ing retarded with regards to his trade value.Ozzie actually does this quite a bit, and with the trade value on the line, 6 innings and 3 runs does not look too bad compared to 6.1IP and 6 runs against the Royals. I am sure KW's phone is ringing off the hook for Count now. Logan had 4 pitches, he definitely needed to come out.

White Sox vs. Royals, 6/29/07 (L)
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) Who cares about limiting the damage. The offense sucked and we lost. 0-14 from our 1-4 is beyond suck. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Uh, no. Half the losses haven't been because Ozzie did this. Not even close. Today was a bad call, but I can't be upset with Ozzie for keeping his starter in after his starter told him he'd like to stay in. Ozzie's a player's manager and this'll happen sometimes with different results each time. Come on now. A player is always going to say he wants to stay in, that is part of being competitive. Ozzie just rarely pulls the plug on a pitcher who has struggled through the game without too much damage. I understand he doesn't have much faith in the bullpen, can't blame him there, but he does this a lot and more times than not, it does not work.

White Sox vs. Royals, 6/29/07 (L)
QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) It is Ozzie, he left the guy out there too long. He should have went to the bullpen for the 7th inning. Especially if you are looking to trade the guy. The offense is terrible to by the way. I'm just saying Ozzie f***ed this inning all up I agree. The Count obviously did not have his best stuff, and Ozzie could have limited the damage to 3 runs in 6 innings. Instead it is now out of reach and Count's trade value just went south as his ERA keeps climbing. I would say half of the Sox losses have came in this exact same fashion.

Buehrle Fest
They may be trying to work it out so his contract is also his number and 4 yrs seems the best fit for $#56. I say he signs today and Pods pulls his groin.

White Sox vs. Devil Rays, 6/28/07 (W)
QUOTE(ROC Sox Fan @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) If we win, is that our first series sweep of the season? I honestly don't recall, it's been so long since we even won a series.I think it is the first sweep of the season, and last series win since May.

White Sox Winner!
11 more in a row and we are back to .500. 13 games until the ASB, all the Sox need to go is 12-1.

What happened at break last year?
What happened last year: 1. KW did not get a legit LF, CF, and SS which killed the entire lineup. 2. KW not addressing the lineup against LHP (Added Mackowiak and Thome) which actually made team worse against LHP. 3. Team enforced stricter policies (haircuts, no tarp slides, etc) 4. Complacency (less motivation after winning title) 5. Fatigue (extended 2005 and WBC took a lot out of our team) This year, KW failed to address LF, CF, and SS which has killed this team again. The team is still bad against LHP and now the bullpen is erratic. Add all the injuries and subpar performances and you have one of the most underachieving teams in a long time. Trading MB or losing him to FA would just be icing on the poopcake.

What is Mark Buerhle worth?
I chose 5yr/$16 million which would be 5/80. The Sox could either front load or back load it to their pleasure. I don't see them going much over that value.

Buehrle Wants a Five Year Contract
I had a bad feeling when he was not the opening day starter. I hope this contract situation doesn't go the same way. KW needs to relook his 3-yr contract policy for pitchers. I understand where he is coming from, but it should only apply to new pitchers to the organization. He already knows what he will get from guys like Mark and Jon. Why not lock them in now to market rates and after 3 years you will have a couple of bargains.

And that's a white sox loser
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) Lol. We now have the same amount of wins as the *gasp* Royals. Sad. Sad. Worst team in the AL and plummetting!Only the Rangers and Reds have less.

And that's a white sox loser
4-17 in our last 21 games. I still cannot believe someone has not been fired over the crap that is being put out on the field. The firesale needs to start now. The way this team is playing it is hard to believe they won the WS 20 months ago.

White Sox vs. Pirates, 6/17/07 (L)
That sucked, but it was not all MacDougal's fault. He let up a single. Ozzie is stuck on the matchup game, and it never works.

Advice for KW
I agree about the scouting 100%, it should become a bigger focus within the organization. However, that alone will not fix this team and it has not helped the teams you mentioned do very much over the last few years either. KW needs to move on from looking for the right guy (grinder), and worrying about clubhouse chemistry, because the last 2 years have shown that those two factors/values don't always translate into wins. Talent has more of an impact. JR needs to give KW the flexibility to make some impact moves in the FA market, especially for positional players.

MacDougal recalled from AAA-Charlotte, Prinz DFA'ed
QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 10:31 PM) I too believe it was a "message" being sent. Hopefully Mac and Aardsma got it. It sure doesn't look like Sisco has I have been out of the net. How has Sisco been doing?

Mets Interested in Buehrle?
I doubt the Mets would give up that much (3 of those) for 2 months of Buehrle. At most I could see is 2 of those from that list, which would still not be a bad haul. Something like Milledge or Martinez and Pelfrey or Humber would be a nice return. Getting one positional player and one pitcher would add some nice balance to the farm. However, I have a feeling that the Sox are going to resign Buehrle regardless of the outcome of the season. KW doesn't want to make this seem like a firesale even though it will be pretty close.

Crucial stretch coming up here
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) I kinda want to hope for losses, but as a Sox fan I just can't. I am in a pickle.I feel the same way. At this point I want like 10 straight, wins or losses. Either get back in it, or go for the 1st pick.

Crucial stretch coming up here
QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) Look at schedule on tap: three with the 28-37 Pirates, three with the 32-34 Marlins, three with the 30-35 Cubs, four with the 29-35 Devil Rays, three with the 25-41 Royals, then four with the 29-36 Orioles. We're 10 games out of the division lead and 8.5 out of the wild card. Our next 20 games are against opponents with a combined .442 winning percentage. This is by far the easiest stretch of our schedule this season, and if there's much of a chance of us making the playoffs, this team needs to win 15 in this stretch. That is hilarious that you mention the combined winning percentage of .442, since it is actually higher than the Sox at .435. Based on those facts the Sox will split these 20 games and be 37-45 in 20 games. At most I see them winning about 12 and being 39-43. The problem is the easy stretch started weeks ago and the Sox have done nothing with the opportunity except bury themselves. Is the Sox are going to become sellers, I really hope they do it early and get more value for the trades with a smaller market. Also, teams should be willing to pay more if they are going to get more time out of that player/trade.
