Offense seems to be waking up. 8 starters with at least one hit. Dye (3-5, 1HR) and Mack (3-3, 2 2B) increasing their trade value. Thome one closer to 500. Solid game for Garland and Thornton. Day needs to go. Jenks with the 1 pitch save.

LOL, the Sox bullpen padding Jenks' Saves.
-
Day reminding us why it will be nearly impossible to make a 2nd half run.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 07:41 AM) Maybe someone can add him (Buehrle) to the Soxtalk banner because the current one, which is sweet, has not had the luck of the previous ones. Nice job on the banner! ^^^^^^^ and the recommendation! ^^^^^^^

Pujols calls out LaRussa for not playing him

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 12:28 PM) it's just the roids talkingActually the withdrawal effects. -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) 56-20 is what we will need to get 95 wins. 36 games over .500 for the rest of the season. LOL So you're saying there's a chance.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 12:12 PM) they are all going to stumble and the Sox are going to win 25 straight YES! You heard it ^^^ here ^^^ first.

I don't think Cleveland's rotation is strong enough to keep up their current pace. Their only 2 reliable starters are Sabathia and Carmona. Byrd, Lee, and Westbrook are meh. Also, when your closer has a 5.35 ERA at the ASB, chances are you will eventually start to lose some closer games later in the season.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 09:07 AM) This is the problem with being in 4th place. We have to jump 3 other teams. They all play eachother. So Detroit beats Cleveland, great we gain on Cleveland not Detroit and vice-versa. We need everyone to go .500 basically and we have to have a 25-5 month to just get back into the race. Otherwise the season is OVER OVER OVER!!!!! No matter what Ed Farmer says. Realistically, we are basically done, but you are saying the Sox have to make up 13 games in a month. The season is just past the halfway point. They need to make up 13 games the rest of July, August, and September. So there is a chance, but the Sox really have to start stringing together some longer win streaks. The Sox would have to basically meet the following milestones to have a shot: August 1st - Within 10 games August 15th - Within 7.5 games September 1st - Within 5 games September 15th - Within 2.5 games Possible, but improbable.
-
It is actually more important that the teams ahead of the Sox go on an extended losing streak at some point. With 76 games remaining, the Sox need to make up one game every six games. The most important series will be the 5-game series vs Detroit starting July 23rd. If the Sox can take at least 4 in that series, they will have made up some serious ground in a short period.

Pujols calls out LaRussa for not playing him
RME JICO replied to RME JICO's topic in The Diamond Club
This clearly shows that there is a rift between Pujols and LaRussa, because you don't say anything like that if you have a good relationship with your manager. Also, most players are just happy to be there. -
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AoEI...p&type=lgns Not necessarily the smartest thing to do when it is your own manager.

Mark Buehrle Agrees to 4-yr, 56 mil with escalator clause
RME JICO replied to Brian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Does he still have a no trade clause at all, or is it just the 5th year option? -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) Great game by Javy....but I have a feeling he's going to be overshadowed today. You have a feeling he is going to be overshadowed by Mark resigning 13 minutes ago?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) I'm still surprised Mark accepted such a cheap deal. It'll be fun having a class act like Buehrle around as the face of the franchise for the next 4+ years. Kudos to Kenny Williams. Now get a ridiculous package in return for Garland and I'll be ecstatic. You know something like that is next. I would rather part with Contreras, but Garland should command a lot. -

NO WAY! What great news. Thank god, we can now close the one of the longest threads in Soxtalk history. -
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) I love Mark, what's happening is a joke. KW should have just said "we want to go in a different direction." f***ing retarded. What direction would that be? Straight to the bottom? Perennial 4th place in the AL Central.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) What they do? Keep it up....awesome stuff! It will get old eventually, so I am taking advantage of it now.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 11:37 AM) I don't think I could care less about this game. What? There are several achievements with the win today. With a win we move within 5 games of Minnesota; we go into the break with at least as many wins as KC, Texas, AND Baltimore. We can also get to .500 vs the Division with the destruction of the Twins. This win might even light a fuse.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 08:52 AM) This argument has been rehashed numerous times no this site so I really don't want to get into it. Again, Mark is a good pitcher and $14M, for a team planning on competing, is a good deal. The Sox aren't competing for at least another 3-4 years (based on the young, cheap rosters in DET and CLE). So why in the hell would we want to drop $14M a year on a pitcher that might help us lose less?Detroit has a young, cheap roster? $95 million payroll. Rogers, Jones, Rodriguez, and Sheffield are all over 35. I wouldn't call them young or cheap. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) Didnt contreras pitch opening day in 2006?Exactly. Mark had been given the honor of being the opening day starter for several years, then the team decides to give it to Contreras who wasn't even the best pitcher in 2006 (Garland). This just seemed like another step to separate from Mark.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 08:17 AM) And don't forget the main acquisitions in the trades were two lefty starters, as well as drafting another lefty with our first pick this year. At this point, we just have to hope KW surprises us by who he acquires in the trade.Good catch. That makes it even more damning. I guess the writing was on the wall for a long time.
