Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
RME JICO replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 07:41 AM) Well, ESPN via AM 1000 was the reported source. That's as official as it has gotten. ??? QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 07:41 AM) I heard it on Chicago Baseball Tonight on AM 1000 and on the radio cast of the Cub game last night. They also claimed Shannon Stewart and Casey Blake, and Hendry's trying to work a deal for any of them. The Stewart deal doesn't appear to be happening, from what Levine was saying last night. OK, it is just odd that only one source has been reporting it for so long without anyone else picking it up. Maybe that will happen today. -
QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 04:28 AM) 62 games left 35-27 the rest of the way. Eh why not ? Doesnt hurt to stay positive contrary to popular belief.62 games left? What league plays 176 games? There are 48 games left to complete the 162 game season. The Sox would have to go 28-20 to get to .500. Possible, but it is not gonna happen. There are too many variables working against the team. I would say 78-84 is a safe bet.

Is this official, because I cannot find it mentioned anywhere? I hope it is, but it is odd something like this would not be at any of the other media outlets by now. -
Rowand - AVG .315 | HR 16 | RBI 62 | OBP .384 | SLG .513 | 6 SB Byrnes - AVG .303 | HR 17 | RBI 64 | OBP .365 | SLG .497 | 28 SB The biggest difference is Byrnes speed.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) Which is a good sign of things to come. I still love me some neck fuzz. Floyd and Orton can be the Neck Mullet Twins.

White Sox sweep! Huge confidence boost. 9.5 GB of Detroit and possibly 10 GB from Cleveland (if they lose). Floyd with 6 shutout innings to get the W, nice game. Jenks nailing down his 30th, 31st, and 32nd consecutive batters for the save.

In 75 career appearances, Bukvich has never been charged with a loss. -

Wow, that was a silly curveball for strike two. Is it me or does Floyd seem a little more comfortable/relaxed on the mound? The last start, he actually looked scared. -

4Ks in 2 innings is nice. This is the best he has looked in the bigs. Now he just needs to string these solid innings together into a solid start. -
Again, he needs to be in the rotation for more than one start. There is no way for a pitcher to get settled when you just spot start or are plugged in for mop-up duty. Give him 4-5 starts on normal rest, then determine if he has the skills/make-up to be a legitimate starter.

The interesting thing about Glavine is that he won 20 games 3 times before turning 28, then only won 20 twice after that. Based on age, Buehrle is actually slightly ahead of Glavine at this point in his career with no 20 win seasons. He would need to average 14.5 wins a year until age 41 (13 seasons). If he gets a couple of 20 win seasons or even a couple of 18 win seasons, he would have a shot. It just sounds like he does not plan on pitching beyond 35 with the comments about even winning 200. A better article would have been "Contreras says he won't win 100".

Bobby has now retired the last 29 batters he's faced. Basically a perfect game + 2 batters. Also, they have not been easy lineups (DET, NYY, TOR, and BOS).
-
AJ with a great AB to extend the inning. Dye continues to be on fire.

Cleveland was 5 over .500 at that point in 2005 and we are currently 9 under. That is a huge difference. The Sox were on pace for 106 wins at that point, which eventually corrected to 99. The Tigers are only on pace for 92 wins at this point. For us to even match that win total, we would have to go 42-11 (.792). Just say the Sox strung together 20 wins, they would still have to go 22-11 (.666). Boston with the best record in the league is winning at a .611 clip. So basically there is a 99.999999% chance that the Sox will not make the playoffs.

11.5 GB 4-14 in Interleague play killed us. If we are going to win, it might as well be against DET, CLE, and MIN.

Do you have the one where the ball hits Pods in the head?

Iguchi Traded to Phillies for RP/SP Michael Dubee

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) You're delusional. If the Castillo trade hasn't sufficiently convinced you that Iguchi had little to no trade value then I don't know what will. Kalapse, did you update your chart with the Iguchi trade? -

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:00 PM) Why? He's an overrated player whose speed is dropping each year and has never had a SLG above .400. Considering that, and the current market trends, he's not going to be worth the contract that he gets, even if he does put up a acceptable (its not nearly as good as it was when he was down in Florida) OBP atop the lineup. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:02 PM) .356 OBP, 14 XBH (11 2B, 3 3B), 9 SB and 4 CS. Ick. We need to sign him and Erstad to have the All-2000 team. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) Castillo had more value because of the draft picks after the season (assuming he qualifies for them, which I think he does but don't know for certain)Yeah, you are correct. I forgot about that. Hopefully he is available in the offseason. -

Mets just acquired Castillo for 2 minor leaguers (one being a AA Catcher). So Iguchi was still only worth a Single A Pitcher? I also thought there was no market for 2B.
