THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: OCTOBER 25TH/I LOVE GEOFF BLUM
RME JICO replied to StatManDu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(StatManDu @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 01:10 AM) Buehrle became the first pitcher since Jim "Catfish" Hunter in 1973 to earn a win and a save in the same World Series. StatManDu, you are StatManWrong Also, what about all the controversy about the stadium roof? That was the big story leading up until Game 3. -
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) If Francona wants this, we'll see Beckett pitch in Game 1, 4 and possibly 7 if it goes that far. Francona should pull Beckett after 4 innings in each game so he can pitch sooner, just like Zambrano. It worked for the Cubs.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 05:52 AM) Thought I'd start this up to get people thoughts on this. B-Mac to Texas for Nick Masset and John Danks. Right now, if you're KW, would you still make this deal, based on talent? FWIW here are the numbers of all 3 for 2007; B-Mac - 5-10, 4.87 ERA, 59K's and 48BB's. Danks - 6-13, 5.50 ERA, 109K's and 54BB's. Masset - 2-3, 7.09 ERA, 21K's and 26BB's. The one number that cannot be overlooked is HRs: B-Mac - 101.2 IP, 9 HR Danks - 139.0 IP, 28 HR Danks is two years younger, and is a southpaw. With those factors, the trade is basically a wash. Also, if Floyd doesn't completely suck in Spring Training, Danks plays in AAA all year. This is one of those trades that you need to look at in 2 years.

No Wakefield for the World Series. Who starts Game 4?

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) Well, now I definitely won't tune into Sportscenter for the next 4 months. What about Hester runbacks?
-
Colorado has a better chance than most people believe. They beat Boston 2 out of 3 in Boston for interleague play in June. In the series they outscored Boston 20-5. They also beat up on Beckett and Schilling in their wins with their only loss being a 2-1 loss vs Wakefield. Colorado in late October should be pretty interesting weather-wise as well.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) is this right??? One is 16-year-old shortstop Juan Silverio, who is playing in the Instructional League after receiving a $600,000 bonus. being discussed here: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t&p=1519093

Ed DeBartolo's failed attempt to buy the Sox

QUOTE(StatManDu @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 08:00 AM) I am banned from White Sox Interactive ... Long story ... That's a bizarre little site over there. Congrats. Join the long list of banned members of WSI. -
I wonder what the current market is for someone of his caliber at his position? 8 mil / 10 mil / 12 mil a year? I think 14 per year is a reach.
-
It also sucks to have one of those 10 game road trips near the end of the season. The Sox play 10 out their last 13 on the road.
-
That is definitely an ugly schedule. September looks pretty brutal. Wait, we don't play KC until June 3rd, that has to be wrong, they are still in our Division right? We play LAA 7 times before playing KC?

http://www.sportsjournalists.com/forum/ind...html#msg1440509 http://soxmachine.com/blogs/soxmachine/arc...0/10/11005.aspx So what happens with Whalen? I guess this was just a natural step after the Star merger.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 07:59 AM) Hi. Tom House claimed that he was juicing in the 1970s. Steroids, HGH, everything. Claimed that they gobbled it up like it were nothing. I've read somewhere that his claims are highly unlikely because of a variety of factors. The problem is, I can't recall them and I'm having trouble finding them. Can anybody tell me why House' claim is hard to believe? I believe it has something to do with HGH/steroids not really being in popular use at the time and not really being well-known, refined, etc. etc. Do enlighten me. Bodybuilding has been using it for decades, why not major sports?

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 08:40 AM) Torre looks to be all but gone. Posada, Rivera and Pettite are all free agents. They will likely keep Posada but Rivera is reported to be shocked that the Yankees haven't approached him for a new contract. Pettite is likely to go back to Houston or retire with his boy Roger. And then we have A-Rod. Im guessing he opts out of his contract and signs with Boston. You look to be partially right: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Alv3...p&type=lgns

The Sox would have to at least get a top level prospect (Wood?) to make it close. If you assume you are letting go a declining Konerko, and Garland who has had one good year in the last 6; while at the same time receiving a leadoff CF who hit .330 this year, a 1B who had a .840 OPS, and a solid Setup man - its not that bad. At the same time you are cutting a ton of locked in salary to use elsewhere. You also just got a lot younger. A Shields-Jenks combo at the end of the game would be sweet. Also, a leadoff hitter with a .393 OBP and 41 SB would be nice to see. It is close, but the Sox would need a high level prospect.

The guy having a chick in a joke hold wearing a Ramirez jersey symbolizing Ramirez joking. Nice one. -
Quality Starting pitching still trumps a quality positional player any day. You can overcome a shortcoming in the batting order, but it is hard to do that in the rotation. The timing of this information makes it seem very questionable.

Even though the article is from the Trib, it's funny seeing it come from Philly. Are those two slots for Gooch and Rowand?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 06:40 AM) One of the few days I saved pics this year...give me a couple min.Thanks!

Does anyone have any of the Thome #500 pics from CBS, or links to them? Thanks.

That .222 BA, .311 OBP, and .724 OPS this year was pretty shocking. What a huge drop off in production from his previous couple years. So where does he go? Boston, NY, Texas?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Exactly. When he feels OK he is just as good as he has ever been. When he's hurting, he doesn't provide much. Can't you say that about any athlete though?

QUOTE(EMONEY @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Well, another year in MLB history has came and went. And things are back to normal. The Yankees once again made the playoffs, the National League is lame, and the WhiteSox suck. After the amazing 2005 season, I thought that we would have a chance to become a regularly good franchise. We've kept all our crucial players, even added some power into the hitting lineup. But, sadly, you apparently can't win on skill alone. You need desire. Something that was prevolent in 2005. That team was just destined to "Win or die trying" Well, this year, we died. Miserably and without any ferocity or heart. When did the WhiteSox become a power-hitting team? We won with "Ozzie Ball" and the principle of "get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in" How is it that South-Siders had the biggest winning celebration in baseball history, but are seemingly accepting of a 70-92 season? How are the players content to be one of the habitually worst teams in the league. And more importantly, how am I going to get through life if my passion and desire aren't shared by the individuals that can make it happen. This entire season, i was only thinking two thoughts, "When is this gonna end?" and, mostly, "There's always gonna be 2005" First off, welcome aboard. In regards to the season - $h!t happens. Look at St. Louis who won it last year, 78-84 this year. Houston lost to us, and they finished 73-89. Both in the weaker NL nonetheless. How about Oakland and their 76-86 record? Finally, how about Detroit, 88-74 was good enough to be the first loser. This team just had a lot of things go wrong at the same time, injuries, slumping offense, and a suspect bullpen led to a horrendous record. The funny thing is they ended up with a winning September, go figure. Hopefully that decent finish coupled with several key offseason acquisitions will bring the Sox back in 2008.
