  1. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) Steve pointed this out to me on Rotoworld, Minneapolis Star-Tribune: Twins close to acquiring Young for Garza Rotoworld Headline That kinda sucks, they get a talented young bat for one of their multitude of young starters. We can't match that deal? That sucks. Floyd, Uribe, and MMac?
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) 1. Like I said earlier in this thread, does an OF of Owens, Crisp, Dye excite anyone? 2. Who else is there to spend that money on if we pick up Crisp instead? We'd no longer really need Jones although that'd be nice, but if you pick up Jones why bother getting Crisp. 3. I see it as nearly impossible that the Sox have the talent to go after more than 1 of those guys. 1. Not really. One of Owens or Crisp is fine, but not both. 2. A Starter, another Reliever, or 2B If Rowand is out of the picture, doesn't that mean he will sign with the Sox within the next week? That is how KW works. He completely shuts down all rumors about a player to come back and swipe him. Otherwise, KW is going to get someone that has not even been discussed.
  3. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/features/...=29553&pg=1 4 White Sox players mentioned:
  4. A reliable setup man was one of the Sox needs this offseason, and by all accounts Linebrink filled that need. The Sox may have overpaid if you just look at Linebrink's deal in a vacuum, but based on the other contracts being handed out, it seems like it is the market rate. One of the biggest stats to note about Linebrink is with his amount of pitches. For his career: 1-15 pitches - 1.78 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, .248 BAA in 273 IP 16 or more - 5.52 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, .289 BAA in 169 IP He is a very solid reliever when he keeps his pitch count low, however, once he gets up there his stats balloon. So it is entirely possible that Milwaukee did not use him correctly (in the setup role) which lead to undesirable results.

  6. QUOTE(Ozzie's Accent @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 07:43 AM) Agreed, especially when we made a trade with a team with Figgins & Willits. Disappointing we could not get one of those guys as part of the deal. Willits will now not start with an outfield of Matthews Jr., Hunter, Guerrero with Anderson DH'ing. Hopefully more to come.Thats all dependent on what happens with Matthews.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 12:05 AM) The Brewers will now have more top 75 picks in the 2008 draft than the Sox have had in the last 3.So we see how many we can pry away from them with MMac and Uribe?
  8. The Brewers lost Linebrink and Cordero. They may be desperate for a reliever now. Maybe somebody like MMac in a package for Hall?
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) I just completed a full update including the latest signing of Francisco Cordero. Sweet job, really appreciate it. I like the Boras noted players.
  10. He will be 35 in January, so a 3 year deal would put him at 38. That 25 game suspension hurts. If you can live without him for 25 games, then you can probably live without him for 162. I would pass on him.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) Regardless of the other two (thinking objectively, I might prefer Rowand to Hunter in both the short and long term...higher ceiling and the durability issues are not there, only the recklessness issue), do some f***ing research, thus preventing you from looking like an idiot. Orlando Cabrera - 31.7 Juan Uribe - -0.6 (yes, that's a negative number) But yeah, a 32.3 difference in VORP is comparable. You could even do it like this: VORP: Cabrera 31.7 Garland 26.6 Uribe -0.6 Total 26.0 WinShares: Cabrera 25 Garland 13 Uribe 13 Total 26 So Cabrera has more value or near equal value to Garland and Uribe combined, which is not even accounting for Garland's replacement.
  12. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) Hey, does anybody know if the Soxtalk Firefox thing is still on here? Yep, still here: http://www.pcgamingtech.net/downloads/whitesox.xpi Updated with Cabrera. Just select the link, choose to open with FireFox, click Install Now, then Restart FireFox. Should populate next to Help.
  13. I updated the White Sox Firefox Extension with the Cabrera transaction, but I am waiting until after the Winter Meetings to release an update. The current one is posted here with the addition of Cabrera: http://www.pcgamingtech.net/downloads/whitesox.xpi Just select the link and choose "Open" (with FireFox), then click to "Install Now". After install, then select "Restart FireFox". I am working on a Prospects section that will include links for the top 10-20 prospects in the organization. Anyone have any suggestions on good sites to link? Baseball Cube, Baseball America, etc? Thanks.
  14. 111 holds since 2004 would have been more appropriate.
  15. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) Funny caption under Linebrink's picture on whitesox.com. "In his eight-year career, Scott Linebrink has converted four saves in 30 opportunities." Way to spin it for the Sox fans, intern! I thought that was funny as well. Is that supposed to be a positive comment?
  16. QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 02:22 AM) Awful Trade for the Sox! Why? Garland was gone after 2008 anyway. Cabrera is a nice upgrade on offense, has better range on defense with less of a gun compared to Uribe. The savings also allowed the Sox to sign Linebrink without increasing the payroll. VORP: Cabrera 31.7 Garland 26.6 WinShares: Cabrera 25 Garland 13
  17. This is exactly like every other deal in the KW era: Any huge rumored deal never happens. At this point, it is almost like KW leaks info about a deal like this to get everyone's attention off what he is really trying to do. 5/90, $18 per year is a lot of money. That would be the highest salary per year for any player not on the Yankees. There must be something that is going to come out about Matthews.
  18. More about the Dodgers and Crede. I like the last part. http://sportsblogs.latimes.com/sports_base...-small-and.html
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 12:42 PM) Compared to Freel, he's a saint. Freel is trouble waiting to happen. As long as he doesn't get anymore cravings. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2926447 BA for Hamilton straight up.
  20. I wouldn't mind Burke, but I think Richar is going to surprise and have a solid year.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) Purely from a performance issue, a day or two off a week would clearly be better than 2 or 3 straight weeks off. In fact, him playing 120 games but allowing us to fix the days he takes off would be significantly more useful than him playing 135 but missing 25 due to injury, because with injury, we can not take advantage of his splits. The best way to use Jim Thome is to maximize his number of at bats against right handed pitching. Every time he sits a game with a right handed starter, we lose. Against lefties, he is basically an average hitter. Against Righties, he's as good as anyone else in the game. The formula is right there; sit him extra against lefties if it helps him stay healthy against righties. Thome was not average vs Lefties, he was pretty brutal (.196 BA, .663 OPS). You are spot on, almost every game thread that featured a lefty had similar ideas. If Hall is healthy, they should look at doing something similar with catcher as well. Start hall on says where LHP start, not just with the Sunday lineup.
  22. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) And the problem with that is.... I'm glad I never made the majors no matter what numbers I put up. Some here would hate my guts over how I would wear my hat also which IMO is just ridiculous. Just some humourous things I've seen from fans here. /rant And back to the topic I could see if it was actually more comfortable, but it is not. It just looks silly, like a half rally cap.
  23. I am surprised at how bad Hunter hit vs DET and CLE in 2007: .673 OPS, 10K, 2BB in 69 AB vs DET .531 OPS, 13K, 3 BB vs 67 AB CLE He is even worse when he plays in Cleveland: .286 OPS, 7K, 1BB in 34 AB
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) Its seems the "big fish" comment from Kenny, was acutally right after being asked about Miguel Cabrera, if you read the context of the interview the way that the USA today has it written up. They ask him if they realize that they might have helped the Angels get Cabrera, then Kenny talks about landing the big fish. Really interesting to say the least. Could the Hunter stuff be a smoke screen to swoop in and get MCab? MCab is the heaviest Marlin at 240, tied with Kevin Gregg, so there is a good chance he meant one of them. http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/team/roster...ve.jsp?c_id=fla With all the rumors about Hunter, it is hard to imagine the Sox getting him. KW always works under the radar.
