QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) I noticed the Tigers pictures that have been uploaded can't be enlarged with the normal method. The first Spring pictures are normally full size. I thought it depended on the source. Presswire pics cannot be enlarged, but AP and other sources can. Is that correct?

Make a wild or bold predicition for the 2008 Sox
RME JICO replied to santo=dorf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
- Swisher is the AL MVP - Vazquez wins 20 games - Thome does not miss a single game due to injury - Quentin is the biggest surprise - Ramirez is the starting 2B by July - Egbert ends the year as the 5th starter - The Sox win the Wild-Card - Pods pulls his groin in a ST game vs the Sox -
Some pretty interesting info from a Body Language Analyst: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3244344 Basically says Clemens exhibited several signs of deception, whereas McNamee only a few.

QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) Good point on Dye. I've already thought something was up with the great year he had in 2006. Again, I hope not though. I would like to believe that all of the Sox players' achievements have been based on merit and hard work and not thanks to a vile. But to have your best offensive year at the age of 32 seems suspicious. His best year before 2006 was in 2000 when he batted .321 with 33 bombs and 118 RBI in 601 at-bats for the Royals. In 2006 he hit .315, 44 bombs, and 120 RBI in 539 at-bats. In the case of Crede, almost all hitters have their best years from the ages of 26-28. In 2006, he was 28. Paulie's 2006 wasn't much better than his 2004 and 2005. And Thornton was always gifted with a good arm. Like someone mentioned in a different post (which I agreed with), perhaps working with Don Cooper was what he needed to get it figured out. Brady Anderson hit 50 HRs in 1996 and no one ever questioned whether he was taking anything.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) Clemens is a dirtbag and I hope after everything's over, he gets the book thrown at him. or a syringe. McNamee used him like a dart board.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) Say, has anybody noticed Frank hasn't been up the same type of numbers within the last few years compared to his early 90's days? Maybe he got off the junk when they started cracking down. Good season = on something. Holy cow, and how he got injured right when he came of the stuff. Man that sucks. Also, there is no way Cal Ripken played that many games in a row without some PEDs. Buehrle's no-hitter has HGH written all over it. Jenks consecutive innings streak was not aided by Ginseng, probably Andro.

I just hope this doesn't bleed over into the season. In reference to the 2005 Sox, you can probably pull specific players from every World Series team that had career years the seasons they won. Most of the time it takes something like that to get them over the top.

QUOTE(shipps @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) If Nick hits over .265 and 22 hrs I would be shocked. I'll take the over on that one. Playing half his games in the Cell will give him 5-7 more HRs.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) Nick Swisher + Josh Fields = mucho strikeouts. Fields is a lock to break the White Sox record. Hopefully it also equals mucho pitch counts for opposing pitchers.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) It's actually an interesting exercise to go back through some of the old BA lists and take a look at how things turned out. Although they may have improved in recent years somewhat (can't judge a lot yet)...it looks to me like if you go back and look at their top 10's, top 20's, etc., they wind up batting about .500 in their top 10's on guys who turn out to be legit major league studs like you'd expect for top 10 prospects in baseball. 50% is brutal for experts. There are a ton of guys on this board who could do that year in and year out. I also like when they list someone in the top 10 multiple times. Delmon Young was a top 3 prospect 4 years straight. Sox highest positions in BA Top 100: Konerko - 2nd in 1998 Contreras - 6th in 2003 Ozuna - 8th in 1999 Floyd - 9th in 2003 Quentin - 20th in 2006 Swisher - 24th in 2005 Jenks - 24th in 2006 Crede - 36th in 2001 Fields - 45th in 2007 Dotel - 45th in 1999 Thome - 51st in 1992 Danks - 56th in 2007 MacDougal - 79th in 2001 Vazquez - 83rd in 1998 Dye - 88th in 1995 Cabrera - 92nd in 1998 Uribe - 94th in 2001 * All others never listed in Top 100

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) Haha, when I give a team a 0 percent shot of winning something, they always win(2006 Cards as well). Great stuff though. The Eli-Tyree play was freakin insane. Please give Sox 0 percent chance in 2008.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) Old-ass-Dolphin-folks-still-revelling-in-undefeated-season (including crack-selling Mercury Morris) >>>>>>>>>>>> Obnoxious New England fans revelling in undefeated season for the next 50 years EDIT: And my "Old ass" remark is mainly aimed at the players. Old asses. I agree. The best part is they chose the worst possible game to lose. OT, Refs were even the whole game as well.

Plax was right, the Pats did not score more than 17. Classless move by Bill. Hard to respect a coach that does that, on national tv no less.

Crazy, G-Men 17-14.

10-7 G-Men, wow.

As of today, do you think the White Sox are legitimate AL contenders

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) Cleveland is the team to beat imo. I agree. They get very little press, and yet they won 96 games last year. Even they have holes though. Borowski. -

QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) Well if Mags stops taking the juice/HGH, you can bet his production will plummet, just like I-Rod's did. And I think Dontrelle is going to get shelled in the AL. I really hope I'm right. If I recall, he's prone to walking a lot of people, and you don't get away with that in the American League. Also, I am not sold on a 43 yr old Rogers, a 5+ ERA Bonderman, a "can't post a winning record on a good team" Robertson, or a declining NL transfer Willis. The only sure thing in their rotation is Verlander. The Indians are not that much better. You subtract Santana from the Twins and it looks like a 3 team race. -

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) Using Baseballmusings Lineup Analysis, I plugged in projections from Bill James. It projects we'd average about 5.53 runs per game. http://www.baseballmusings.com/cgi-bin/Lin...451&Model=0 Using whatever projections Baseballmusings uses, it put Cleveland at 5.60. A key thing to note is that the Swisher and Orlando C. projections were for their old ballparks. Basically it's up in the air which of these teams will have a better offense. Personally, I'll take the Sox. And oh yeah, they project the Tigers to score 5.58 runs per game (yes that's with Cabrera). All 3 teams have powerful offenses that will score a lot. It will come down to who has great seasons and who has mediocre/poor and who gets injured. All 3 teams have question marks in their rotation and in their bullpen. Who will perform best? I don't know. You don't know. I only know that Magglio and Granderson won't repeat their 2007 performances. The best lineup they use is pretty interesting. I know it only goes off stats, but this is the best one listed: 1. Nick Swisher 2. Jim Thome 3. Carlos Quentin 4. Josh Fields 5. Paul Konerko 6. Jermaine Dye 7. Danny Richar 8. AJ Pierzynski 9. Orlando Cabrera -
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) since this is a thread about dotel and not podsednik, i thought everyone would enjoy this tidbit. CONTRACT CLAUSE OF THE WEEK Octavio Dotel has made 354 consecutive relief appearances over the last seven seasons. But that didn't stop the White Sox from tossing a $25,000 incentive clause into his new deal just in case he's named to be the starting pitcher in the All-Star Game. That is an odd one. They should add one for Silver Slugger, etc.

Trade Uribe to BAL - sign Corey Patterson

QUOTE(Wanne @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) I'm to the point of just hanging on to guys like Crede, Uribe and BA at this point unless somebody makes one hell of an offer. They could be very valuable pieces to acquire something pretty decent during the season. Based on the numbers for the 25 man roster, is that even possible unless you send someone to the minors? -

Maybe for 2009, but not 2008. Until he shows some better velocity, he would be a waste of money.
