From opening day starter in 2007 to released in 2008. Worth a look? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2008/n...tory?id=3303667

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) Dotel got shelled today, going .1-5 ER. At least he is getting these out of his system before the season.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) That was one of the translations when Uribe was suspected in a shooting incident.

QUOTE(flavum @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) Per the Score, Richar out 4-6 weeks. Good luck, Alexei. Probably also means welcome back Torpedo Boat as well. No way we let him go now with Richar being out that long.

QUOTE(flavum @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 12:22 PM) I think the Sox have a chance to be pretty good this year----with Josh Fields. I'm not denying Crede is a much better defensive player, but Fields is ok. If they keep Crede, I think it's just a distraction to the team until something happens. If it's inevitable that Crede is getting traded, I'd rather it be before next Thursday. I just want the best player playing everyday. If that is Crede with Fields in AAA, so be it. If that is Fields with Crede traded for whatever we can get, so be it. Also, is having a surplus of players actually a bad thing? I mean last year we were at a point where we had Pods, Erstad, and Gonzalez on the 25 man roster and playing regularly. That was pretty bad.

Giants still do not have a starting 3B. They will have to do something by Opening Day. http://www.mercurynews.com/giants/ci_8635371

Is there any theory on why this happened now? Is it because there are about 10 days until the season starts and they wanted to clear this up before opening day?

Pods Returns, Let the Celebration Begin!

Anderson, Swisher, and Owens all have OPS over 1.000 for ST. -
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) And once again I say, perhaps the Angels came to the Sox with the Garland for Cabrera deal. It is impossible for any GM to know the status of EVERY SINGLE player out there. Wouldn't the Angels have had more leverage if they would have came to the Sox before they signed Uribe?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) I think we stickied the Dotel signing thread about 2 weeks before it actually happened and had to drop it off. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) It can be unstickied. Colon was. Should've been green, sorry.
-
QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) I'll believe it when I see the press release. Believe it, it has been stickied.

If DFA'ed and claimed by another team, does the other team pick up the contract?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) I'd agree. I could see the minor league comparisons, but Jon Garland had mild success in the major leagues for a good number of years. People would argue that he didn't live up to his hype and be dissapointed he didn't do better, but he was a league average pitcher at a very young age. Gavin Floyd had spent parts of 3 seasons in the majors and has yet to have a league average season or anything close to such. Prior to entering the majors, Floyd like Garland was a young prospect who was ranked amongst one of the very best prospects in the game though. If Floyd posts the type of seasons Garland had during his early 20's, I'd be exstatic but he has yet to show that he is capable of doing anything of the such (however, I believe he has the stuff to do it, but again, he's had 3 years with semi major league time and has only gotten worse). Jon was busy throwing 200 inning seasons posting above league average ERA's. This is probably Floyd's last shot. Either he finally lives up to his potential or he dies off like so many others.

QUOTE(kjshoe04 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 08:51 PM) When I saw this thread I thought Bobby was getting high all the time or something. lol, I didn't even see that, hilarious.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ao8k...o&type=lgns Gotta love Bobby.

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws judging from this, from the Sox site, there's no chance for him? So Bobby Jenks, Octavio Dotel, Scott Linebrink, Matt Thornton, Boone Logan and Mike MacDougal with one spot available between: Masset, Wasserman, Ohka, and Carrasco With Wasserman having options remaining, it seems like he is most likely headed to Charlotte with one of the other 3 making the 25 roster. Now if Ohka signed a minor league deal, he can actually pitch in Charlotte as well, correct? They also mention this about Carrasco: So it seems like Masset has the inside track.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 05:50 AM) It finally hit me why I feel like we have done this before... Gavin Floyd=Jon Garland Yup. Their histories are so similar, it is scary. Both were very high draft picks who supposedly had mid to high 90's stuff, with a HUGE curveball. They both seemed to lose a decent amount of their stuff on their trip through the minors and beginning in the majors. They both were highly disappointed on their initial trips to the bigs, to the point of both players being traded early in their careers (remember the Garland/Erstad deal that Disney nixed?). They both suffered huge confidence problems after both their stuff and preformances had big disappointments. Finally both became huge targets for their fan bases. Could this be said for any young underachieving player? Anderson, etc. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 05:50 AM) We might as well have the Floyd "Fan" Club start calling him "Judy" and get it over with. Also, they can just start calling him "Pink". lol

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) I know the kind of work you're referring to. I just also would add that personally, no matter how much work I did, I couldn't really add muscle or strengthen areas like that no matter how much weight training I did until I started approaching my mid 20's. Depending on how Sweeney develops he might be in the same boat. You're right. Some people just can't gain muscle mass in certain areas. He may be screwed. Otherwise he can try this:
-
Does anyone think that making Johan bat will have an effect on his pitching? I know other pitchers have made the AL to NL transition, but how many were effective after 8 seasons in the AL before changing over? He will benefit from the easier lineups, but then he will also be pulled sooner to get a PH in there. Just curious after watching is his last outing.
-
So today's game shows that Floyd and Haren both suck. Haren lets up 4ER in 5 innings to a 72 win team and Floyd lets up 4ER in 4 innings to a playoff team. or it is ST and pitchers are not pitching full speed yet.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) Sweeney has actually had wrist problems for a couple years now, and it probably has slowed up his career a bit. He's also young enough still that he's just now hitting the age when a solid weight training program might be able to start doing something about it, depending on how he develops and fills out. Something like this:
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) I bet Brian Anderson has a better year than Ryan Sweeney this year, based off of win shares. I would take that bet.

http://www.sbrforum.com/Headlines/MLB/58490.aspx Ouch. Hope he is ok.

Didn't the Sawks have Youkilis leadoff for a good portion of 2006? If BA keeps hitting like he is now, this would be a pretty sweet lineup with Swish leading off.
