QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 08:32 AM) I agree with this... but you don't bench him on opening day, and you don't platoon him. Yeah, no way.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 08:24 AM) It surprises me to see how many people think Thome should be benched vs. lefties... maybe once in a while, but Thome is NOT a platoon player. Sure, he's better vs. righties, but he has one of the best eye's in the league, can draw walks, and at any moment, vs. any pitcher, he can go yard. And you don't bench especially when he is getting hot, as evident of his 4 or 5(?) homers and 10+ rbi's in the least week and a half of spring training games. But, he shouldn't bat 3rd vs. lefties. Swisher should bat 3rd with Thome 5th... You can't bench Thome vs every Lefty, because he would only end up with 300 ABs. However, I wouldn't mind seeing him replaced every now and then vs Lefties. He has a .300 point OPS drop from RHP to LHP. That is huge.

Is there a chance Crede's actually re-signed after the '08 cam
RME JICO replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 08:17 AM) No, not really. Hes an above avg defender, below average offensive 3B. Being a good player is usually being above avg and better at your position, Crede just isnt that, sorry. That makes Crede a league average 3B. His defense makes up for his offense. He is bascially a better version of Brandon Inge. However, we will have to see how he looks for an extended period post-surgery. There are definitely teams out there that could use him, but they probably feel like they need to see more of him before making a move. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 04:55 AM) Ehren would be very annoyed right now, and I don't blame him. Masset should have a month to perform, and if his ERA is above 6, get rid of him. But now Nick has the opportunity, and let's hope he makes the most of it. What if the Sox are basically masking this season as a wash and they don't want to kill service time on Wass and Fields? That would make sense then. Also, don't overspend on a suspect pitching market, just run Floyd and Danks out there 40% of the time. Then before the deadline move Crede, Uribe, Dye, etc and restock for 2009. Otherwise, these moves are mind-boggling.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) Well, then we'll be starting a dynasty of disappointment. Nice, D2.
-
QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Why do you have to make a big deal out of a simple mistake? My bad, I thought it was a cut and paste, and that was actually in the article.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) Yeah, if we put up a record similar to last season, we'd have to be one of the most disappointing teams in the modern era. Weren't we last year?
-
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...ce=MLBHeadlines Article talks about every year since they won their last World Series. They also include players they passed up on in drafts, etc. Pretty funny stuff.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) Add the salaries of the league minimum players (which I didn't include) to the $115M and it's right around $118M-$119M. Whenever news services like the Sporting News put together their lists of the top payrolls they never include cash considerations. The Sox are actually somewhere around $109M-$110M right now. Yeah, I was just pointing out how accurate you were. $115 to $118 is not that much considering the players not listed like you said.
-
Kalapse had us at $115 before the deductions. That is pretty high for what everyone is projecting this team to do. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Aiot...n&type=lgns

You know he is lying when he can't even spell days right:

Why keep Masset around when he has shown absolutely nothing? Wassermann is clearly the better pitcher.

Official How Many Games Will the Sox Win Thread

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:10 AM) You think they are going to go 67-95? That would be last place in this division, almost certainly. If they won 72 and you minus 7, wouldn't that be 65-97? That is what he is predicting. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) But what about jeremy reed and Mike Morse? Mike Morse is batting .518 in ST in 56 ABs.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) Thome with a shot and that's two for the day. This is good He is heating up. Hopefully he carries it into the season. When he gets in the zone, he cranks them out like crazy. -
QUOTE(Disco72 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) So what's their rotation now until Lackey comes back...Garland, Weaver, Saunders, Santana, Moseley? Maybe Weaver will be their #1. Suddenly, the Angels look very beatable in the AL West. Weaver will probably get the opening day nod, so he would actually be their #1 with Garland next.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) cough, Jered Weaver, cough. Not according to their website: http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/team/dept...ex.jsp?c_id=ana Garland was listed 3rd.
-
With Lackey hurt as well, Garland is now their #1. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-angrep...,1,340320.story

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Speaking of Garland and the Angels, they are thanking their lucky stars that they made that deal now. Escobar may be out for the season now, and Lackey is hurt... Wow, that makes Garland their #1.

1994 sucked. We lose to Toronto in 1993 who end up winning the WS, and were even better in 1994, ugh.
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) I wish it was true, but we all know Uribe is our starting second basemen for the long hall. Only chance he's gone is if we're out of it by July and he's batting a very un-Uribe like average or sports an increased OBP. There are a few days left for something to happen.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) Add Contreras and we are of the same mind.Absolutely. The one thing nice about this roster is that there is less of a drop-off when playing the Sunday lineup. Those were almost automatic losses.
-
You could also say we have infield depth as well. Crede, Fields, Cabrera, Ramirez, Uribe, Ozuna and Richar for 2B/SS/3B. Floyd and Danks are my only real concerns this season.

I'm just wondering what type of firesale will happen this year?
